I think what’s throwing you is Kirstie in the background with the “bell tones”. Single clipped notes sung in such a way as to create a chime-like effect. For more of that, check out their “New Rules/Are You That Somebody?” mashup. My top 3 of their original stuff: “Love Again” - an EDM-style number where Mitch takes the lead. Similar vibes to the DaftPunk medley. Avi is mildly terrifying. “Sing” - a high-energy anthem for living life to the fullest. “Thank You” - basically a love letter from Scott to his boyfriend, released last holiday season. Bring tissues.
All the sounds are (at least initially) coming from their mouths...no instruments in this one...but they HAVE started stepping up the post-production sound effects. Scott has openly admitted this, as has their producer Ben Bram. It's all an effort to keep them contemporary and progressing as artists. If they DO use instruments, you will see them in the video. Even when they use instruments, it's only minimal use (Kevin's cello, Scott's piano, perhaps an instrument played by a special guest in the video).
Funny...Mitch is usually the fashion icon of the group. He has even modeled for Balenciaga. It is completely a capella, but on this latest album they did some experimentation during post-production, which is probably what you're hearing. Did you notice Kevin's utterly insane beatboxing on this one. As he says in their original song "Sing". "I'm the human 808" - he ain't lying!
Another great reaction to an original song. Written by Mitch and Scott and inspired by Mark when he brought Scott coffee in bed. It was one of the first times Scott recalls someone doing something just for him. Scott hates labels hence no Official leader, but he is the Engine that guides the group. That's another reason why most songs each member gets a chance to sing. They are a band but also a family. Literally since the original three grew up in Community Arts Theater and their parents know each other driving them around as kids. They formed the base 10 years before Pentatonix was created and so it was easier to add 2 more voices. This doesn't mean that Kevin and Matt/Avi are less important. The group would not be as Successful and Strong without Kevin's amazing talents. Since you have done several of their songs I would recommend "Thank You" written by Scott and Mark about the crazy year of 2020 and to be Thankful for the little things in life and the people who got you through this pandemic. "Imagine" is great because it shows their individual differences and overall similarities. Watch out for the wall of sound near the end and Kevin sings a few lines. The day they shot that video was also the day Scott met Mark.
Your reactions are hilarious! We’re not entirely sure these angels are entirely human, that’s how good they are. For more originals, you should totally check out Can’t Sleep Love and Love Again.
Yeah, definitely not human. Kevin is a magical unicorn, Kirstie is a goddess, and Mitch is an angel (or alien depending on your view). Scott....I can't quite decide, but I think I'm going with alien. Matt, I personally think of him as an elf because he's always so happy and smiling and that's how I (personally) picture elves. Plus elves (at least the Tolkien variety) are always known for singing. :)
I believe their latest original album may have additional vocal layering on some songs to make them more appealing for radio. However, all songs can be sung live successfully. Great Reaction as Usual!!!! Please Check out Their Mashup "New Rules x Are You That Somebody" Scott Kills it with his Awesome Vocals, Mitch & Kirstie Kills it with Their Stunning Harmonies & Kevin and Matt kills it with Their Stellar Beatboxing & Bass!!!!
A few of my favorite originals are Love Again, Thank You, and The Lucky Ones. Love Again could easily be played in a club. The other two are....less intense?
They have so many great originals...you can tell this one was written by Scott and Mitch because it definitely has Superfruit vibes. As you watch more of Superfruit, you will see it.
Welcome to the fandom! Your reactions are wonderful and I definitely hope you keep going down the PTX(and all side projects) rabbit hole! There is also more than just the music if you want to get to know them better... Ptxperience and the Superfruit vlogs are fun to watch as well 🥰

Nice reaction. Thanks. They recorded a live version of this song for "The Late Late Show With James Corden" earlier this year. If you want a mellow, harmony-filled original Pentatonix song, check out "Run To You". If you want a feel-good, happy, original Pentatonix song to get you dancing and smiling, check out "Sing".
The sheer joy on your face is absolutely awesome! And this whole album of originals is stunning, my fav would be Never gonna cry again.. totally obsessed with them too! 😀
At this moment in time, 1077 views and two thumbs down. I have to wonder what kind of person hits a thumbs down for this. They don't like the reaction? They don't like Travis? They don't like Pentatonix? They don't like this vibrant, amazing piece of music? What's going through their head that they punch a negative thumbs down? This entire album is a friggin' masterpiece. I look forward to seeing more of your "slapped with a fish" face in future videos. It's adorable. :)
Mitch is an angel. His voice captivates. Mitch has a hard time feeling good in his own skin, so he has many looks. Some are more flattering then others to some, but I just want this human to feel comfortable so we can keep enjoying his amazing talent. We accept Mitch however he wants to be. Who are we to judge? His positivity makes the world a better place. Thank you for reacting to this! Your smile and enthusiasm are infectious, I love it!
I love Mitch so much that your comment almost made me cry. He’s so sweet and accepting of everyone. He deserves so much love and gets some unnecessary hate because of his looks and clothes. I think he’s gorgeous always. If people don’t like his look or current style they should just wait a couple months. It will change.
@@PtxXtp I would love this comment if I could! Everyone is so judgmental of this wonderful person. I have been the object of judgment by my own family and know how hurtful it can be. Hi. I'm an avid Pentaholic but I'm also becoming increasingly impressed by Voiceplay. Have you seen their recent video of If I Were a Rich Man? It's a fantastic and fun arrangement. But no, I don't think they're at PTX level yet.
More originals- Sing, Thank You, Happy Now, Love Me When I Don’t, and Be My Eyes. There is a live versions of Coffee In Bed and Lucky Ones from late night tv shows.
Travis, I love your reactions. 💕 There is no hope for you now….you are an obsessed Pentaholic! More original please. RUN TO YOU. LOVE ME WHEN I DON’T. NEVER GONNA LOVE AGAIN. You are so much fun to watch and you brighten and lighten my day 🤗
first PTX song I heard was an older original 'Run to You'. I had seen it covered by someone and loved the song. Once I heard PTX do it . . . I was hooked and began my journey down the never-ending Pentaholic's rabbit hole of excitement.
Loving your PTX reactions. There are no instruments, but they have used post production effects on their voices in the latest album. And they sound great. Kevin's beatboxing in this is INSANE.
Yay, you watched it! Your smile is infectious. I played this over and over when they first brought this out. Its sooo good! Great reaction and love your shirt! I think you'd love their original Love Again, very clubby.
While there aren't videos for them, you *really* need to listen to their album (PTX 2015) - the whole damn thing is incredible, and most of them are originals. Some of their best stuff, hands down. The album "Coffee in Bed" was on is good, but imo it can't hold a candle to the likes of "Ref," "Na Na Na," or "Water." Some favorite originals with videos: "Run to You" "Sing" "Be My Eyes" "A Little Space" (the original version, not the remix) Other absolute BOP covers w/videos: "La La Latch" "Havana" "Perfume Medley" "Rather Be" "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" "Come Along" "Radioactive" (with Lindsey Stirling) "Papaoutai" (with Lindsey Stirling)
Yep, all them! When they use instruments you'll see them being played. If you want some more Mitch check out their original Be My Eyes. He soars in it.
The pizzicato strings sound they make is extraordinary. I also love their bell sounds (not heard in this song). So much talent. A whole orchestra in five people with no instruments.
Great reaction! This is my favorite off the new album; it's so catchy. I think you'd like the Popspring 2016 Concert. has 3 originals and one of the medleys so it's a solid show and the quality is top notch. Can't Sleep Love (my favorite off the previous original album) is one of them and it's my favorite live version of that song. just subbed and looking forward to more PTX :)
I really love the “COVID”dynamic. The bed and the room is the same room for each to sing in. Different decoration, only window and the headboard clue that in.
The biggest amazing things about this vid were Kevin's highly syncopated tight beatboxing, and Kirstie's "bell tones." The bell tones are sung the way Matt sings the bass line on most songs, but three octaves higher and with at least two voices. You're hearing "Kirstie and" all the way through, but the name after that "and" keeps changing throughout the song.
Loved your reaction! It's exactly how I feel about Pentatonix. Obsessed!!! They're absolutely unreal. Anyhow, I'd love to see your reaction to anything off the new album "The Lucky Ones". If you need a particular song, then I vote for Happy Now. 😊
So glad you are doing their originals as well as the covers. They are every bit as good. Even the early ones are very good. Keep on keeping on with PTX please!
If there are instruments being played they will always make sure that they are seen in the video. My favorite originals are "Sing", "Love again" and "Run to you". All very different styles but really show off their versatility.
They are Ridiculously talented and for a long time they did not use any instruments at all. They are very precise at documenting when they are used (ie deluxe album) so if in doubt, you can definitely confirm!
You need to continue on their new album The Lucky Ones - all original, and reviewed as being all about mental health. Check out Happy Now, Be My Eyes, and Love Me When I Can't.
Yup - the originals are every bit as brilliant as their covers!!! I love so much the massive grin you have, it's great!!! 100% a capella!!! If they have instruments then you will always very clearly see them - i.e. Kevin with the cello in Radioactive, or Scott with the piano in Thank You - which he wrote with his partner Mark, a truly brilliant original to react to and one with photos of PTX as kids in it, please watch!!
stunning isn't it LOL! Kevin is insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Matt's bass..insane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scott and Mitch are amazing with the switch leads!!!!! Kirstin if you listen fills the WHOLE MIDDLE of the song!!! Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome to Pentaholic hood!!😄 Sounds I wouldn't have believed capable until I saw it live! So to summarize Crazy amazing double insanely good... so normal PTX performance. Great reaction man! "New Rules x are you that somebody" an old original "Love Again" 2 for you!
Great reaction! 😁 It's not possibile not to love PTX once you here them! ♥️ One of my favorites from their originals is Can't Sleep Love - you should check their PBS NewsHour live version! It's amazing and you'll have the chance to hear, that it's all just them, no instruments 😁
I have a couple of favorite live performances. First is the Pop Spring one. There are 4 songs, 3 originals and the evolution of Michael Jackson. The other is Jimmy Kimmel show, God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.
Hi. Love your reactions. Please react to “ Come Along.” First you’ll really love Scott’s pimp suit in this one 😍 second it’s such a crazy bop and their singing is fire. You’ll love it Want to see them live in concert? Try Pop Spring 2016. Taped by MTV Tokyo so it’s a clear video. They perform live , 3 original songs and Micheal Jackson Medley. It’s about 16 minutes but worth it and we will gladly watch your reaction to all of it.
This has major SuperFruit vibes. I personally love for originals: Run to You, Sing!, Happy Now, Light in the Hallway…but NONE of them are mediocre. ALL the originals are bangers.
I just recently discovered how much I adore this song so seeing that you had a reaction to it I had to come and watch. Some other songs off this album (all originals btw) that you should check out are The Lucky Ones (name of the album) and Never Gonna Cry Again (my absolute fav). Idk if there are videos to either but just listening to the songs themselves are a treat!
I have to agree with others; there are no hidden instruments. You can see Kevin play his cello in "Shallow" or him "cello-boxing" along with Lindsey Sterling playing the violin on a cover of "Radioactive."
Great to see that you are reacting the same way I have done. In retrospect, to react any differently to these geniuses would mean that you have no appreciation at all for great music!
Also, to get a live video of them, do Pop Spring performance, it has 3 original songs and their Michael Jackson mashup. It was an MTV special, so it is awesome!
@teatimewithtravis One of my favorite (upgrade) is Come Along - not as often reviewed but such a bop. Give me strong Day of The Dead Vibes.......I could see their version being used in a Disney movie!
I say this to everyone. They don't do anything or put anything out that they can't do live. This song is no exception :) This song is very produced but I assure you it's all them and no instruments. To hear it live it's quite close to the produced version but it's pared back a little bit but they are still doing it :)

Can't Sleep Love (my favorite off the previous original album) is one of them and it's my favorite live version of that song. just subbed and looking forward to more PTX :)
Thanks for the sub ❤️
I really love the “COVID”dynamic. The bed and the room is the same room for each to sing in. Different decoration, only window and the headboard clue that in.
Subscribed just for all the PTX reactions! Love all your genuine emotions to this fantastic group. Please do Love Again. Another bop!🔥
They got some synths and background filters, but basically they can sing this live and sound GREAT
Are you saying those steel drum-like chimes are synths? Because others are saying it’s Kirstie.
@@markthomas4483 Could be a combination, I make a capella music and use that technique
RUN TO YOU is another PTX original that is underated and a little under the radar but SO SO GOOD... the harmonies will astound you.
Loved your reaction! It's exactly how I feel about Pentatonix. Obsessed!!! They're absolutely unreal.
Anyhow, I'd love to see your reaction to anything off the new album "The Lucky Ones". If you need a particular song, then I vote for Happy Now. 😊
My favorite is their original “Sing”
So glad you are doing their originals as well as the covers. They are every bit as good. Even the early ones are very good. Keep on keeping on with PTX please!
if you want to hear this live go to the late show on here they do a brilliant job
I would say, "I can't wrap my brain around it". Works for me.
If there are instruments being played they will always make sure that they are seen in the video. My favorite originals are "Sing", "Love again" and "Run to you". All very different styles but really show off their versatility.
Haven't seen sound of silence yet. Also amazing grace, and little drummer boy.
The sound of silence is just amazing by the the video or the live version.
stunning isn't it LOL!
Judging by your reaction to this one, you will also like Be My Eyes. Very pop-py and Kirsten does a great with the lead. She co-wrote it also.
I will check that out I’ve been looking forward to one with her as lead!
Hi Travis, they blow me away 😲 everytime I see them they suprise me! I loved your reaction 🤣 xx
Imagine...
I am going to say it again, if you want to see an incredible live performance by mitch watch "AHA" Singapore Star Vista
Kevin really shows off his beatboxing skills hard in this song
Great reaction! 😁 It's not possibile not to love PTX once you here them! ♥️ One of my favorites from their originals is Can't Sleep Love - you should check their PBS NewsHour live version! It's amazing and you'll have the chance to hear, that it's all just them, no instruments 😁
Mitch is my fashion icon with a side of Scott. I need all of their suits.
nah cuz yall arent about to sleep on matt in this song! he did his thang!
Lol, great reaction! They used more layering than usual, but all their voices. 😁
From my understanding, they did use some oversampling on this cd. They wanted a different sound So they could get some air time on the radio.
Love your smile and reactions to their videos. They are so amazing
Thank youuuu ! 💜
They did this one live and it sounds fab
you need to check out their original can't sleep love, its another bop
Love this bop. Definitely has Superfruit flavor
happy now so good and sing .
You’ll love it
Want to see them live in concert? Try Pop Spring 2016. Taped by MTV Tokyo so it’s a clear video. They perform live , 3 original songs and
Micheal Jackson Medley. It’s about 16 minutes but worth it and we will gladly watch your reaction to all of it.
Welcome to the rabbit hole! Where to even start! So many songs. Please do aha live from Singapore
Love your reactions! New subscriber here for all the PTX stuff!
Thanks for the sub !
Great to see that you are reacting the same way I have done. In retrospect, to react any differently to these geniuses would mean that you have no appreciation at all for great music!
Sing, be my eyes, run to you, happy now all originals
Amazing Grace.
Lol... yes, it’s a lot to take in. Love PTX. 🤗
Love your PTX reaction! I love them. Check out Can’t hold us, Havana and New Rules.
There is a live version of this song you can check out. I want to know where I can get a cup like that for my morning coffee.
I say this to everyone. They don't do anything or put anything out that they can't do live. This song is no exception :) This song is very produced but I assure you it's all them and no instruments. To hear it live it's quite close to the produced version but it's pared back a little bit but they are still doing it :)
Scott Hoying and Mario Jose - Lost on You! It’s an LP/Hans Zimmer cover!
It is all their own voices
