...As somebody who has suffered horrible depression and fear this year, I can honestly hand on heart say that Karl Pilkington has helped me get through a lot of pain with making me smile and laugh.
My son had surgery today and insisted this was playing to calm him down while he was under a type of anaesthetic. Proof that this is what the world needs.
The animators of this show did a brilliant job. So much emotion expressed by the non-speaking characters, it's great. Admittedly it was kind of their only job considering the nature of the show, but it's not an easy one.
+standuporshutup dejarnette.deviantart.com/gallery/24682691/Character-Designs you can find all the character designs here. The storyboard artist/animator who created them also worked for big companies like Disney, Nickelodeon, Topps, Warner Bros. Animation, etc. He's well-known for illustrations and character designs for the Disney show "The Proud Family" and Topps' Garbage Pail Kids.
+standuporshutup I disliked the character designs at first - thought they were cheap, lazy Hanna Barbera knock offs. Over time though I've really grown to like them, esp. Karl, who somehow looks more like Karl than Karl himself does. And they often make the dialogue even funnier. There's the bit @ 13:37 where Karl's been talking about injecting an old lady("in the...temple.") and Ricky's ridiculing it: the original podcast recording's funny enough as it is, but the dramatic musical cues and the ridiculous animation of some shadowy spy with a syringe jumping out at the old lady, just as Ricky says "...and then someone stuck a needle in her head" makes it much funnier. Most of the animation's pretty subtle - it just complements the dialogue - but it's always consistent and enjoyable, and sometimes it pushes the original podcasts into even funnier areas. And Ricky doesn't look like he fell out of The Flintstones to me anymore either.

Western Medicine is pure fraud, and people's lives are destroyed because of it. There's no critical thinking anymore. People think they're educated because they've memorized the lies they've been told for 100 years.
I have to stick up for Karl. There actually WAS a doctor/scientist during the French revolutionary days that worked with a condemned prisoner to set up a series of signals for the man to use with his eyes once his head had been removed by the guillotine. He did in fact determine that the man seemed to retain consciousness for about 33 seconds after decapitation. He was able to blink his eyes and stare very distinctly at the doctor, and open and close his mouth. His eyes closed for a final time around 30 seconds and did not reopen. I think Simon Whistler may have done an episode about it.
Ricky even said once that so much of what Karl says actually turns out to be true, he just recounts things poorly because he either never understood them or can't remember them properly. Of course, Karl believes everything he reads. God hope he never watches any Flat Earth videos.
The shock from getting decapitated and blood loss might not instantly kill your brain but you would lose consciousness. Lack of blood pressure damages the head very quickly, just cutting your leg artery can kill you in a matter of minutes.
YES! thank you! i swear, in this sort of setting (i mean Gervais *is* a genius comedian/script/show writer..) but when they are trying to use Karl to 'av a laff' i find that Karl is really like the life of the show, even in 'an idiot abroad' (which yes i do object to the title) i feel like Karl basically showed Gervais up. it's like Penn and Teller... Penn comes off as big and super talented and loud and almost intimidating... but he would *never* achieve that stance if Teller, who is just as talented btw, did not project the 'silent, humble smaller' presence right next to him... i think Karl is like the Teller here who makes Gervais' Comedy look so much 'sharper' and 'smarter' just by his more 'simplistic', more 'unsophisticated' manner. of course, i am not saying that Karl could write a screenplay or do an hour standup and have everyone laugh for an hour or has as much comedic raw talent as Gervais... but he is absolutely comedic in his own way and it is absolutely a way that gives Gervais a kind of spring-board to do 'his thing'. but none of this would be so funny if Karl wasn't just smiply being Karl who i find hilarious on his own. on 'an idiot abroad' most of the time, it was how Karl framed the situations he was in and much of what he actually said on his own (i mean without a script) that was the funniest part of the show. if i could go to lunch with Gervais or Karl... i think i'd really pick Karl believe it or not.

Karl is the perfect human...like the best part of one sex, the need to be logical doesn’t apply, and like the best part of the other he doesn’t need to be liked...perfection obtained
Everyone hold on a minute. Karl's fist theory is legitimately the premise of "Death Stranding," eccentric videogame auteur Hideo Kojima's next big project. Karl called it years in advance.
I think this is one of the best setups for comedy ever. Steve has such quick humour and dry cynicism, which works well with his psychotic moments. His and Karl's arguments and insults are fucking genius. Karl basically retells his stories in such an unexpected way, and the interplay between him and Gervais is both friendly and hateful. Ricky and Steve are assholes but they put on the act in order to get the best out of Karl and I think its genius.
There's something I don't understand, Ricky laughs at what Karl says during the goat part but then he later says the exact same thing in his Straight Out of England comedy gig.
Part 4 coming very very soon. Again it's quite long, this time due to Kidney stone diary entries, and the happiness anecdotes towards the end. Plus the rare animated record of Karl laughing. You won't be disappointed, and if you are, you're an idiot. Play a record.
Everyone in the comments saying bullying this bullying that blabla, Ricky Gervais is a brilliant comedian as is Karl pilkington, if there was nobody to take the piss out of karl it wouldn't be as funny, all 3 of them have roles to play in this podcast and they do it perfectly and it's fucking brilliant, stop complaining.

He never laughs, he has a brilliant mind and he is incredibly funny. But watching this made me realise he really is like this in life and he isn't joking, just blows my mind how his works :)
Watch Sick Of It. Karl is a brilliant actor. He plays 2 roles, but he's not really acting. It's just Karl being himself really.
The zombie baby imagery in the first bit is priceless
Karl is a great example of patience and humility.
Guys I..uh..I lied..part 2 is not at all in progress I have had no free time lately😂
+alexo1234ss1 you bitch! :)
Part two coming this afternoon guys!
I love that bit when Karl's telling the story about his mate's creepy house, and he's trying to be a good story teller, and he gets to the climactic part and ruins it with "...somebody had wroted". Haha.
Love the honesty, go enjoy yourself lad
Imagine Karl in I'm a Celeb Get Me Out of Here! :)
omg someone needs to make this happen.
Suq Madiq is
He'd win
Suq Madiq go off and y’know get some rice in ya belly
Illusive Prime
I'd love to see Karl in any American reality show...he couldn't be bothered.
gj on the editing. keep up the good work!
15:30 Karl pretty much gave Gervais material for his stand up. Heard that goat dilemma in one of his stand up’s.
I've think I've heard some of Karls ramblings in Rickys comedy.
I know I have. Specifically the goat scenario
I think there was also the icecaps/valcano thing too that Karl theorised.
Definitely he put about 3 in his last special!
Karl pilkington is like Gavin Free's uncle
This.
'People like Tic-Tacs'
How did I managed to live 36 years without ever watching this beats me. Ty ty :-)
This was on HBO when sopranos was out
“Thumb on a stick??”
I was crying laughing at that!😂
Karl was right about Judges having a disguise. Thats what judges originally wore wigs
I ripped the audio for this and was listening to it while driving my car.
Bit dodgy - nearly wrapped it round a tree, I was laughing that much.
Karl is the perfect human...like the best part of one sex, the need to be logical doesn’t apply, and like the best part of the other he doesn’t need to be liked...perfection obtained
I could watch these every day
Agreed animators so good making this funny
i love how the animators blend together two different storylins sometimes - even if they do not directly mentioned it-
Brilliant. Lov it. Karl's diary is my new thing superb
I wish I could be as patient and confident as Karl
Everyone hold on a minute. Karl's fist theory is legitimately the premise of "Death Stranding," eccentric videogame auteur Hideo Kojima's next big project. Karl called it years in advance.
nice compilation, karl makes me laugh and laugh and laugh.
I love when they tried to get him to understand sayings and analogies
karl for prime minister
How would he be any different from the ones we've had?
Terry the goat - “What am I doing here?” - 2019
It’s funny how literal they take Karl. He’s seriously a genius. It’s about how you perceive what he’s saying
He's tuned out to be somewhat of a visionary looking back. They laughed when he described augmented reality but he was spot on.
Love how they just take the piss out of him and he just sits there and thinks "I'll just wait."
Ricky and Steve are assholes but they put on the act in order to get the best out of Karl and I think its genius.
goat from 16 minutes on- comedy gold
Let me put myself in their shoes, wait they haven't got any
me: crying
Did any DJs actually make a remix of that soundbyte around 10:30?
Just realised Ricky used the goat conversation on his tour
With this amount of ads you must be making more money than Ricky did from the podcast
I wish. It's copyright claimed, so I don't get any money and TH-cam places the ads. I advise using an adblocker.
"Your hip's come off" always makes me smile
This should be called the Karl Pilkington Show
fucking hell. this is brilliant.
That's why people love Karl... He's very wise... but incredibly unintelligent. Some how he manages to still survive and function in this crazy world.
No, that's you I think.
Karl literally never laughs , I’ve seen him grin once or twice. He’s got the greatest straight face in the business.
"But why have I been picked" XD
There's something I don't understand, Ricky laughs at what Karl says during the goat part but then he later says the exact same thing in his Straight Out of England comedy gig.
What's interesting is that Karl's goat gift analysis is precisely what Ricky used in a later stand up show.
Karl is a northerner we still have toffee shops up north 👍
"And somebody had wroted..."
Ricky Gervais is the mastermind that sets the show up for Karl Pilkington to be the star
Part 4 coming very very soon. Again it's quite long, this time due to Kidney stone diary entries, and the happiness anecdotes towards the end. Plus the rare animated record of Karl laughing. You won't be disappointed, and if you are, you're an idiot. Play a record.
@15:29 "Let me put me self in their shoes-oh they haven't got any" LOL
Genius comedy
I can't get enough of this...so effin funny
I love this so much... The cartoons make this.
Think I’ve been watching this too much cos what Karl’s saying honestly makes sense to me
PERFECT!!!!!!!
But what happens if you get hit by a train? Do babies only come out when you reach 78?
Alex W Not sure. Maybe you'd have to take a dip in the fountain of youth. I'M A COCKNEY FLOWER WATCH ME SHOWER.
the.alexo1234ss1 Eels up inside ya
Everyone in the comments saying bullying this bullying that blabla, Ricky Gervais is a brilliant comedian as is Karl pilkington, if there was nobody to take the piss out of karl it wouldn't be as funny, all 3 of them have roles to play in this podcast and they do it perfectly and it's fucking brilliant, stop complaining.
Karl even said “I can stand up for myself” and “if u think I’m being bullied why arnt u doing anything about it” 😂😂😂
The mad thing is I can actually relate to some of Karl’s ideas 😂😂😂😂😂
Someone please explain to all of them what "the elephant in the room" really is!! I was dying!!
12:14 ...That's Benjamin Button... don't tell me Karl Pilkington came up with the idea for Benjamin Button...
No, F Scott Fitzgerald did
