Hi Mike new to your channel come from the steele vid watched all the build vids love the one with the drone and your dad i have been a chippy for 40 years and have loved the skills you have gained with the hand tools the best tool to add to your belt would be the rolls-royce of hand tools is the estwing hatchet check them out quality bit of kit prized in my tool kit keep up the great vids
Began watching this channel back when you had sub 1000 subs. Look at you now. The videos have come on leaps and bounds in terms of flow, cinematography, editing etc. Absolutely made up to see a bushcraft channel doing so well. 1.37 million subscribers, congratulations my friend. If you're ever up Edinburgh way, let us know, a weekend camp away in the Scottish sticks is exactly what I'm needing.
There's something so calming about these videos and it makes me miss when I used to go camping in the summer. Living in a city is awful and I miss the woods.
I love that there’s a small hamlet growing in the middle of these woods. I know I’ve joked before that your videos are manly ASMR, but they really are quite calming and relaxing. There’s a very homey energy to you working in the woods that puts me immediately at ease.
Mike, love your channel - I've been following it since the pallet wood cabin build was posted. I was finally able to find a bottle of Innes & Gunn this past weekend (I live in Connecticut) and it was great! It's like a beer version of Weyerbacher Sunday Morning Stout (brewed in Pennsylvania). Jax is great!!! He must know he's on camera.
Nice work. Your series have been a pure pleasure to watch. The presentation of the work and of yourself (selves) is personable, sincere, and more informative and professional than anything I’ve seen on tv in decades.
I really enjoy watching your videos. You do a very good job creating them. Plus it is enjoyable watching a father and son working together, enjoying each others company and what they are working on. Keep up your great work. Thanks for your efforts.
I really don't care for what you build. What I like is that FATHER and Son are doing it together. Life go's so fast, and then one day soon, someone is gone forever. Kudos to the both of you. Thanks for the upload.
The reason you, and dad are good here and on TA Fishing is the honest nature of how you do it. There is humor, and humanity to it. You don't come off like you're teaching, you do things, explain, admit when you are in uncharted waters, and don't clutter up the activity with tons of narration.
Started with watching you and your dad build the pallet wood house. It reminded me of my childhood. In order to get enough nails I would straighten the bent nails. We would every scrap of wood we could get our hands on. Your dad is a hoot. Watch his fishing channel also. Keep it up.
Goodbye. I'm your friend, you're going to survive with great skill, I watched to learn from you and this month I have a 60-day wilderness adventure. We hope to support you and your family.*
I loved it when Jack was on the roof, his tail wagging so fast. If it would have wagged a bit fast he would have taken off like a little dog drone. lol
You think that's the case with him? My dog even wags her tail in a circular motion, much more violently too. Many things have been whipped off the table, thanks to her.
You might want to try to put the hurdles 5-6 inches in under the eaves so the rain won't drip from the roof right into the interior of the building. I love the interaction between you and your Dad. Jaxx it so cute!
You guy are awesome. Wish I had done a project like this with my Dad when he was still around. Maybe with the daughter and son-in-law. Understand the issues with the flooding. Been there, done that, twice, in the last 3 years.
I've been watching you and your dad for about a year now, and am soooo jealous Of the wooded areas you have to work with. I'm in Indiana (US) and we swim in poison ivy. The two of you give me inspiration and ideas to teach the cub scouts/ boy scouts that I'm involved with. Thank you both so much. Keep the videos coming.
It has been an awful long wet winter this year ..I remember my Gran used to write letters to us saying they had snow drifts here in the Midlands when we used to be in Cornwall..But I have been up here ages now and apart from the snow storms in the 80s it’s mild since then..However ..I love watching you do these houses, they are pretty cool and it’s lovely seeing what sort of homes they lived in first hand and builds instead of seeing the drawings or 3D graphics..I think Jack loved the roof too lol ..mine would take it apart and no doubt I would wake up looking at the stars 😀
Can only be expected if you are charismatic like yer pop. I have watched you from near the start.and I am always inspired to build thanks to ta outdoors.
Lovely to see you, your Dad and Jax back at the build. You have no idea how much I long to being able to have pea meal bacon, I can almost smell it cooking. It is not available in Oklahoma and I did see the HP sauce bottle too.
you might consider planting a perennial creeper / vine along the bottom of the hazel walls. It will grow up through it and fill the gaps a bit. Plus the foliage will cut down drafts and add a touch of privacy in the summer months.
Your very lucky that you have such an awesome father. He seems to have heaps of practical skills. Unfortunately mine was a violent and abusive man.But it gives me great joy watching you work together.
Great to see your dad, surreptitiously, out again! I had fried egg and Bayonne ham on English Muffins for lunch today: used Mayonnaise and mustard as my sauce. MY TAKE on this project: it is almost 'one hurdle after another!" Those airy walls would be most welcome in warmer weather!
Very interesting that you talked about your epic winter/rain. Here in the U.S. the south east states are getting more hurricanes than Oklahoma, along what we call "tornadol. alley." Where I live, in N.E. Ohio, it's traditionally called the "snow belt." But this year, they've only had to plow the streets maybe 3 times. (by this time it should be 15 - 20 times). I'm concerned. Glad to see your dad. Now, over to his channel.....
Aye O’l Jaxx is back on the channel ✊🏼🧐😎🤙🏼. Good to see you 3 Gents Back @ it, and a lil cook session 😉👌!! Sending my Best to you and your Fam Brotha, 🍻s!! -Mike
I have a suggestion regarding the walls ... It might take a few days, but you can build a second wall, ~10 cm distance from the first one, and then fill the gap with compressed soil. Moreover, if there is ivy near by, you can plant a few in the wall. When they grow, they will provide additional support and insulation.
I think it could be fun to see you guys build something specifically to be a cook/storage hut. May be difficult with the lack of clay/stone but it is an idea.
When I think of UK based nature or bushcraft I think about Ray Mears..... would be super cool to see him come out with you for a video shoot of some sort.... (cheers from America)
You know what makes these videos the relationship between you and your dad it’s heart warming and very infectious keep them coming pal atb from Scotland
I definitely like when you guys talk, share and joke around. The "no talk" videos are good, but I prefer a little conversation, or explanations of what/why you are doing. Love your videos regardless!
You've inspired me man, one of the first bushcraft channels Ive came across and Ive been hooked ever since. I don't do the building like you do, but I do have a small lean to shelter and a cabin I've been camping in. Plan on getting a Polish Lavu in the summer when I have more money, thanks for keeping us filled with good content.
Tip, charred wood, charcoal catches fire way quicker (thats why iceman/mummy Ötzi had in his firestarter pouch a piece of charcoal), so you need way less twigs and stuff to get the fire going.
There once was two men, thinking of what to do, let’s build a village of sticks yes that’s just what we’ll do, so one garbed a saw and one grabbed an axe then off on their journey they went with their little dog jacks. Awesome video ❤️❤️👍🏼👍🏼
When you are cutting hurdles to shape, get a couple of pieces of pallet wood place one behind and one in front on the waste side of the cut line, screw through the hurdle from one slat to the other while you are cutting to use as a guide, the slats make cutting much easier, remove after cutting . You can also use thin withes to bind the cut ends for stability.
i would love to see you build a Viking Longhouse. a bit bigger project but would be awesome. also you could possibly rent it out for partys and such... bet a viking themed stag party would be really popular.. just throwing the idea out there...
I don’t got any trees around here, I’m not interested in building any kind of cabin and still I’m really tempted to buy a saw like that. I need that saw. I just don’t know what for yet but I need one...
The Silky brand is really good. I have a smaller one that was cheaper than the "Big Boy" (the saw in the video) and it's probably the best saw I've ever used. Slices through pretty much any type of wood like butter, doesn't bind up, my only complaint is it seems to skitter from side to side until you get it into a groove at first, but that could easily just be user error.
I tend to agree with Brent Dickson, (below) that this would be a great cooking, dining, relaxing and storage shelter, as long as you keep the fire small. Sheltered, the fire doesn't have to be large. The wattle sides, without the daub would allow enough circulation to allow drying and smoking meats, and the turf roof keeps the rain out. But I know you have something else in mind. Thanks for the videos. Ian P.S: In the last video, that implement you used for lifting the lid on the Dutch Oven is called a GONCH HOOK here on this side of the pond. Ian
Iv loved watching your channel grow 👍🏼 the weather here in uk has been some of the worst we’ve had really hasn’t it ? , hopefully we’ll get some really good weather in future to see some great builds from you guys 👍🏼👍🏼
I wanna see you two take on a bigger project for the village. some sort of building with a second floor. there's a new challenge for you to undertake ;)
Would you consider putting a second hurdle wall around the outside (or inside) and filling the gap with leaf litter/ferns etc to make it windproof? Also could you double up roof moss thickness to make it more waterproof? Certainly no criticism!!! Very impressive! All power to your arms! 😄
Keep up to date with the full Turf Roof a Viking House series here: th-cam.com/play/PLxnadpeGdTxC2TSPdh60-zwyMlo-PXVWC.html
I really enjoy watching these videos because it so nice and relaxing it gets you away from the world's problems

Thanks for your interesting video! It's great to see you and your Dad building shelters
*I love watching these guys work, good luck in your business!*

Well done Mike. Thank you
I love you and your dad's comradery. You guys are not only hard workers, but hilarious together. That is why I watch you. Keep up the good work.
It's looking great Mike

I really enjoy watching your videos. You do a very good job creating them. Plus it is enjoyable watching a father and son working together, enjoying each others company and what they are working on.

Thanks for your efforts.
I felt a sense of peace and bewildered feeling that had me in God mercy. I'm so impressed with your skills of craftsmanship.
I really don't care for what you build. What I like is that FATHER and Son are doing it together. Life go's so fast, and then one day soon, someone is gone forever. Kudos to the both of you. Thanks for the upload.
Wonderful 😍
Can’t wait to see your next place ,that your dad and you are making.Brenda from Canada 🇨🇦.

Good job on the fire build they can be tricky and you made sure all the prep work was done. Outstanding !
Totally awesome Mike and Dad! Thank you so much for sharing this with us. 👍😁
Thank you , Mike and Dad .
I loved it when Jack was on the roof, his tail wagging so fast. If it would have wagged a bit fast he would have taken off like a little dog drone. lol
I love this comment XD
🤣
I love that he stole Graham's hat through the roof.
You think that's the case with him? My dog even wags her tail in a circular motion, much more violently too. Many things have been whipped off the table, thanks to her.
Always a pleasure seeing you and your dad in the videos working together and having fun.

It's great to see you and your Dad building shelters and having a good time.
We're march good😎😎😎
Great to see dad back in the woods ! Trout season here ! Take care brothers !
Watching this vid, Jax being a pupper and the rapore between you and your dad has lifted me from a dark place this evening, thank you.
You guy are awesome. Wish I had done a project like this with my Dad when he was still around. Maybe with the daughter and son-in-law. Understand the issues with the flooding. Been there, done that, twice, in the last 3 years.

You guys have a friggin village!!! Love all the bonding ❤️ Enjoy it while you have it!
Your very lucky that you have such an awesome father. He seems to have heaps of practical skills. Unfortunately mine was a violent and abusive man.But it gives me great joy watching you work together.
Glad to see Jaxx, just love that little live wire !

Working having fun with your dad, priceless👍

Aye O’l Jaxx is back on the channel ✊🏼🧐😎🤙🏼. Good to see you 3 Gents Back @ it, and a lil cook session 😉👌!! Sending my Best to you and your Fam Brotha, 🍻s!! -Mike
Another great video. Awesome sirs. Thanks for doing what you do.

It's perfect for hanging meat or drying onions and wood. A displaced draught keeping the rain off but everything dry.
Keep up the good work!!! I love seeing the awesome structures you build. You are a great inspiration for all bushcrafters.
Love seeing the two houses in the back!
I think it could be fun to see you guys build something specifically to be a cook/storage hut. May be difficult with the lack of clay/stone but it is an idea.
Thank you for another great video.
Another brilliant video by the dynamic duo..keep it up guys...
I tell the kids, the best part of a fire is the prep!! Your fire and prep were executed perfectly!!!
Nice...
Looks fine enough to put some small chickens ,ducks and stuff..in it..
Another great video guys 👍👍. AWESOME 😊
I love ❤️ your bill-dings👍🤗
Awesome! Love the walls. ☺🇨🇦
In some 300 years, historians are gonna be stumped when they find these primitive shelters that barely date back at all
Haven’t thought about that, but if they hold up that long, it would be funny to be a fly on the wall then.
If I had the money I would LOVE to come over and spent a week at YOUR Builds they are GREAT Thanks for the videos
Good
Great cinematography, as always. Love it!
When I think of UK based nature or bushcraft I think about Ray Mears..... would be super cool to see him come out with you for a video shoot of some sort.... (cheers from America)
Luv watching your videos

Your sinserley doing awesome work and learning us about the history on these shelters
i have enjoyed all your vids and astonished in your building bushcraft
You are the Boys. Thanks, :)
Awww this is so cute video..
Well at least Jax didn't fall through the Viking house roof. Good to see your dad again the place is starting to look like a village.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾, Jaxx 🐶 is back. It’s about time. 😀👍

So much room for activities 😅 didn’t expect a step brothers reference from these vids
love your channel, always like watching your videos. keep it up.

You need it for training of your upper torso muscles alone! ;-)
Ya always need a saw like that! Go for it! You will find something to do with it 😉
Your comment made me laugh. I've just bought a Silky saw. I have no idea what I'll cut with it, but I really needed one...
Had to laugh. I sometimes buy tools and then figure out what I need them for.
Looking awesome
It’s so calming

I can appreciate that weave technique. It takes a very long time and it is crazy how sturdy it becomes. Awesome job bro! 👍
Thanks for this video. Great job on the Viking house. Greetings from Wisconsin, USA. We are getting extreme weather also.
Iv loved watching your channel grow 👍🏼 the weather here in uk has been some of the worst we’ve had really hasn’t it ? , hopefully we’ll get some really good weather in future to see some great builds from you guys 👍🏼👍🏼

Beautiful clean work, that fire was the best
Great video...
Laughing so much when dog steal dad’s hat 🤣🤣🤣
That was really funny, especially the look on Dad's face! It just shouted, You little dickens! Give that hat back!
