The thing about Man utds period of dominance is the years they didnt win it they were razor close... In 2012 they lost it on goal difference with one aguero kick in the last minute... Through the 90s they lost it by one point multiple times.... All the other times they won it... Fergie kept that team at 80/90% consistantly... But I would agree Pep has taken the team to 95%...but they have to keep it going... It always feels like a team wont be stopped... But things can change very quickly... Pep leaves and that can rock the boat...

@@weww982 easily. That was Fergies biggest strength was reinventing himself over time. He would have the best modern coaches for sure. This is recency bias that the prem was not as competive now. In the late 00s the UCL semis later stages were full of United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal on repeated seasons. The prem went through a lull between 2014-2018 then the last few years have been pretty much a 2 horse race between Liverpool and City. I'm not even sure the last years have been that competitive in the prem. Liv won it easily in 20 and City won it easily last year - as well with no away fans made it even easier for them.
You can say that some of the mid table teams have improved over the last 5 years perhaps. But Norwich, Newcastle etc of this season are no better than the relegation fodder of 10-15 years ago. Teams like Middlesborough and Fulham were going far in Europa league back then also.

All while bringing new and innovative ideas to the Bundesliga. Lots of young German managers cite Pep as their inspiration(Guys like Tuchel and Nagalsmann). 1. No. United are -only team to have won the league 3x in a row and to win the league and champions league in the same season. Guardiola however is the most dominant manager in football history in terms of points accumulated over a 10 year span and the amount of league titles he has won in 3 countries.
    2. Sir Alex is the better manager because of the trophies he won and the longevity he had in the game. It is closer than Rory believes though. Guardiola has seen off mourinho, conte, sarri, klopp, van gaal (I feel like I'm missing someone out lol) during his tenure so far whereas fergie came up against managers like souness, Evans, wenger, david oleary, Graham, ranieri, houllier, benitez, Dalglish, sir Bobby etc. You could argue that the only manager to really get the better of him consistently in the league was mourinho in what, 25-26 years and that he overcame all challengers throughout that period however he wasn't up against the best managers in the world. Guardiola has been. For me guardiola will leave behind a greater legacy than sir Alex due to the style of play he has implemented at 3 (4 if you include the spain national side who greatly benefited from guardiola managing their key players - just lime England are atm btw) different teams and the way he has tactically revolutionised the modern game. Just like cruyff changed the way football was played and influenced several generations guardiola is having the same (probably more so) effect.
    3. Is this even worth answering? Youre stretching with that question lads 🤣. No. Sorry.
    4. No lol. Just like how valencia and sevilla couldn't win the league during barca n madrids cr7 and lm10 eras. Arsenal can't win the league during this era of guardiola n klopp domination. Man city have one of the best squads in Europe n Liverpool still have the best cb and possibly the best player on the planet in their teams. Arsenal aren't going to finish above both of those teams at any stage in the nest 3 years. Chelsea also have kante (best cm on the planet bar de bruyne) and outspend arsenal season in season out. United also have a few quid n are bound to get things right eventually.
Players like Ben White and tavares are decent signings but they are not quite varane and sancho or lukaku etc. In order to close the gap to the big boys you have to sign the right players. Even though you have improved your squad and have some exciting young players you cannot compete for players like kane, mbappe haaland etc. N it's quite likely 2 of those players could well wind up playing for one of the current top four come next season.

I feel bad for arsenal fans, subconsciously they are always trying to belittle SAF and his achievements because they know nothing in their clubs history comes close or will come close to what he's done despite them being a huge club. he has constructed several teams (92-99, 06-09) better than peak arsenal of all time (98-04). sharky and other arsenal fans come across insecure and biased and often take the 'enemy of my enemy is my friend' approach when discussing football especially on this pod in general.

You should discuss who are the best teams of all time.
If they came up against each other now, who would win?
Prime United, Invincibles, Man City now, sextuple Barca or MSN Barca, Galacticos, AC Milan back in the day and whoever else.
I think that would be a sick video and debate.

Currently, Ferguson. Without a shadow of a doubt. Ferguson started managing top-flight football when he was 45. Pep started when he was 37. Already, that puts Ferguson behind by 8 years in terms of managerial status in top-flight football. Pep was already thrown into top-flight management as soon as he began, managing arguably one of Barcelona's greatest ever teams. The 2008 team, which consisted of players such as Eto'o, Messi, Henry, Xavi, Iniesta and so on. Arguably the best in each of their positions to ever touch the ball. Ferguson didn't have all this shit handed to him on a plate. He built the empire that he had. Everywhere Pep went, it was all already built for him just to take over. That 2008 Barcelona team, THAT Bayern team, THIS City team. The best versions of these teams that their history has ever seen. And he had it handed to him on a plate. Ferguson had highs and lows with his lineups. Guardiola never did. Because he always had those star-studded Starting 11's handed to him on a plate. ADDITIONALLY. Ferguson spent his entire top-flight managerial career in by far the most competitive league in the world. Pep started off in 2 leagues that were 2 horse races. Simple as. AND, despite ALL that, AND being 8 years behind Pep, Ferguson has STILL won 18 more trophies than him.

I have to go with Man Utd dominance and Sir Alex over City and Pep…the longevity of that side along with the amount of trophies was crazy and as much as you’ve said it’s more competitive now than it was then I disagree, I’d agree the standard overall may be higher but at the time there were a lot of good players fighting for that league and Alex Ferguson and Man Utd were that good that they looked unbeatable most of the time.
