i actually was believing all the hype for survival man equally until this exact video actually. what made me realize its a blend of staged and real was the aerial recordings of the exact things happening while out on day 5 like we see here, the coyote scene was a dead give away. if he was all alone, there would not exist that footage of the coyote that was following when he had arrived the day prior. ruling out that it was footage of from the drop of cause that would have been days ago. this also means they have the pilot ready there with a crew off the camera scenes at all times im afraid. i couldnt believe it until this exact episode confirmed. but damn holy shit
@@MagnusQuake Well I don't know for sure, but it's very possible the crew took b roll shots after picking Les up. From a TV perspective, it makes sense to get some additional footage after the fact to supplement what was filmed during the actual survival.

What I love about Les Stroud is that he not only did the survival part for real, but he made the TV show from the ground up in the beginning to what it became. The other shows, Vs Wild, Dual, Alone etc. Were someone else's idea and production.

Hey Les I love your videos and you offer a great variety of knowledge on survival. However I grew up in the Mexico desert and in the interest of the survival of anyone trapped in the desert of Mexico, always walk or drive towards a light in the distance, human help is your only hope when you’re stranded in the desert. We do have a rainy season but it only comes around one week out of the year so if you find yourself surviving the desert any other time of the year, farmers and ranchers are your only other hope of surviving the dry heat of The pan. Don’t go looking for springs, plants or any other other sources of water. Farmers and ranchers with wells are your only hope, it’s dry and hot out here don’t risk anything. Kind regards.. One more thing, never drink your pee, morale is the only thing that will keep you going when things get really tough and there’s no way to ruin morale like drinking pee, trust me I’ve seen it happen.
Yep, minus berry bushes which so long as you don't damage the bush while foraging. It is always best to leave enough behind to replenish. Not for you 'naturalists', but primarily and pragmatically, so that you will have a steady supply of food for the long term. There is more than one reason you should range around the perimeter and IMMEDIATE surroundings of your survival camp.

Glad I just discovered on Christmas Day, 2021 that Les had uploaded his library to TH-cam ! What a great present for me. Him being sick off the oysters reminded me of the time he got really sick from that turtle in Georgia.
I love the way he continues to play along with the "having to carry fire routine" right up to creating a fire using a bow drill, despite having a fire steel right there on his knife sheath the whole time lol. That's discipline!!
I don't think that he would do well. Les doesn't like being alone. In every episode of his show he mentions the loneliness and you can tell that being alone is hard on him.
I think they should invite all the other famous survivalist and maybe add to the challenge by having an inexperienced partner with them. The 500k could go to charity. Maybe David gogins would like to be on the show?
I like how he uses everything around him to his advantage in a survival situation letting nothing go to waist. Like in this case where he salvages parts from the boat to aid him during his trek on the island. I have seen an episode where he did the same thing with an airplane and yet another where he did the same thing with a car. Very Smart and resourceful.
I run a cigar business with my brother and whenever we go camping for a few days, we always have plenty of cigars on us. We used this method of fire-carrying many times and it never fails. They're ideal for it, they might as well be part of every campers gear.

The fighting to survive series came out just last year I think, but the last actual survivorman episode was 2016 with his son. Definitely overdue for another series.
Don’t forget that Les both ages and has a family. He’s probably done doing these big survival trips so he can focus on his health and his loved ones. And he can create other great, less dangerous content going forward.
Les got into a bad truck wreck and really broke his body. Then add in his age and the toll each of these type episodes takes on his body he said he was done with doing these extended survival shows. Getting too old for this 💩 is a real thing, trust me lol. I'm only 38 but my body is done as a disabled Marine veteran. I still do physical things outdoors but not like I used to when I was in my 20's.
It's crazy how destructive fire is, yet when you are surviving in the middle of the night with a fire and no one else. The fire feels so soothing and emotionally supporting.

I have met Les when he came to the Chapters bookstore next to my office at Yonge/Bay and Bloor in Toronto. Such a down to earth person. Really makes anyone comfy whilst interacting unlike Toronto folks.

Met Les up in Tennessee he was doing a concert. I was up there doing a taste test on moonshine and he stopped prepping for the show to talk with my family. He was super nice.
Ive grown up in several parts of Texas, and southern is brutal. it always blows my mind people walk dozen's of miles in this country to cross the border. Politics aside, its a tough trek.
One overnight in West Big Bend I stayed in a cave overhang, put up thorny barrier and metal chime alarms. Javelina came to the outside late at night investigating and left. In the morning I hiked down to the river and went through a wash in Very rough country navigating boulder obstacles. Finally it turned into a little canyon and you could see cow trails to a similar spring like what you found. I didn’t drink the green water but felt like finding it was a relief. The next day I climbed back out on the trail in a foreign wasteland with hidden secrets. Thanks for sharing Your skills.
What is tremendously smooth on Les's part is how he does it I almost hurt myself laughing when in his movie.(interviews with monster's and bigfoot) he commented on all the things he has eaten and tasted and ends with but I would never drink my own pee I just wouldn't do it .. myself and my boys laughing so hard.. to think he even mentioned it in his movie and you know if you are a fan we all know who he is talking about. SMOOTH but a great slap in the face at the same time well done I say .

I notice a lot of people take to trashing the likes of Bear Grylls and his Man vs. Wild show. Let's be clear about one thing: it isn't a comparison, because they aren't really doing the same thing. Also, I guarantee you if they met, they would find a lot of respect for one another. Much of their advice lines up pretty similarly - except when it comes to eating snow, for some reason. Les is a real, live-off-the-land survivalist. He studied, spoke to everyone he could, interacts with locals at every site, and went on countless expeditions with experts before trying it on his own. And he NEVER goes to a place to film the show without first scouting it a bit, and again, talking to the locals. He has acquired an amount of knowledge and experience that is incomparable. Les makes it as authentic as possible by otherwise not being prepared beforehand, and bringing no one with him. SIDE NOTE: He also alienated a portion of the wilderness trekking, wannabe survivalist hipsters when he declared their deity, Christopher McCandless, a "terrible survivalist". If anyone has half a brain, they know Les is right and Christopher did almost everything wrong. Bear is an ex-special forces officer, turned adventurer who is always after life's next great thrill. He has a lot of survivalist knowledge as well, but the purpose of his show was always to stage situations someone might encounter, no matter how extreme, and show how it's possible to survive. Bear was virtually never in any danger of starving or dehydrating - though he did put himself in physical harm by attempting ridiculous feats - and he had a crew with him at all times. He valued doing the most extreme things to encourage survival techniques, but also for the entertainment of the viewers. The downside to a lot of his survival techniques were twofold: 1) Bear is extremely athletic being ex-military, and was able to get out of things average people likely couldn't; and 2) his whole plan was to hike out of wherever he was. He almost never planned to set up camp, stay put, and get a bearing on his surroundings. He was always move, move, move, which again, could get an average person into even worse situations.
Two things, wrapping the copper tube with a seawater soaked rag will increase the still output. Two, bees and birds head to water morning and evening, you can follow them. Bees usually will only live within two miles of fresh water. Hiking in dry desert bees have somehow followed me and contiously drank my sweat.

Being a Canadian and living in cold climate you did really well in that area, as an Alaskan I have a difficult time in hot climates. Your primitive fire skills are very good. I have learned most all primitive friction fire methods and I like the methods used by west coast Alaskans the best. I actually mastered these techniques and have taught many their methods.

I think this video had my first issue ive ever had with survivorman. He went back for his fire because he said he didnt have any matches. It looks like hes got a ferro rod in his knife sheath, which would be easier than going back on a 15 minute walk just for the fire.
Les casually listed off that he'd be sleeping with scorpions, rattlesnakes and spiders at 22:00 then continued on with his work lmao. So stoked to find these full eps on TH-cam. I used to watch every single ep on the Discovery channel back in the day. Gonna be binging these now.

These are acually pretty risky to do as he is out there himself. He could easily die if he made a seriuos mistake or got injured.

Man you inspired me to learn about survivalism myself and now I am very fond of stealth camping and going remote and just being one with nature, experiencing true humanity. It's life changing going where few have gone before and relying on the land it brings you to your roots.

I have met Les when he came to the Chapters bookstore next to my office at Yonge/Bay and Bloor in Toronto. Such a down to earth person. Really makes anyone comfy whilst interacting unlike Toronto folks.

Met Les up in Tennessee he was doing a concert. I was up there doing a taste test on moonshine and he stopped prepping for the show to talk with my family. He was super nice.
Ive grown up in several parts of Texas, and southern is brutal. it always blows my mind people walk dozen's of miles in this country to cross the border. Politics aside, its a tough trek.
I’ve learned sooo much this episode. Now I know how to look for trails leading to water. Skill for life.

One overnight in West Big Bend I stayed in a cave overhang, put up thorny barrier and metal chime alarms. Javelina came to the outside late at night investigating and left. In the morning I hiked down to the river and went through a wash in Very rough country navigating boulder obstacles. Finally it turned into a little canyon and you could see cow trails to a similar spring like what you found. I didn’t drink the green water but felt like finding it was a relief. The next day I climbed back out on the trail in a foreign wasteland with hidden secrets. Thanks for sharing Your skills.

Survivor man inspired me to learn about survival and prepare to survive in times when survival was not guaranteed.
What is tremendously smooth on Les's part is how he does it I almost hurt myself laughing when in his movie.(interviews with monster's and bigfoot) he commented on all the things he has eaten and tasted and ends with but I would never drink my own pee I just wouldn't do it .. myself and my boys laughing so hard.. to think he even mentioned it in his movie and you know if you are a fan we all know who he is talking about. SMOOTH but a great slap in the face at the same time well done I say .

I notice a lot of people take to trashing the likes of Bear Grylls and his Man vs. Wild show. Let's be clear about one thing: it isn't a comparison, because they aren't really doing the same thing. Also, I guarantee you if they met, they would find a lot of respect for one another. Much of their advice lines up pretty similarly - except when it comes to eating snow, for some reason.
Les is a real, live-off-the-land survivalist. He studied, spoke to everyone he could, interacts with locals at every site, and went on countless expeditions with experts before trying it on his own. And he NEVER goes to a place to film the show without first scouting it a bit, and again, talking to the locals. He has acquired an amount of knowledge and experience that is incomparable. Les makes it as authentic as possible by otherwise not being prepared beforehand, and bringing no one with him. SIDE NOTE: He also alienated a portion of the wilderness trekking, wannabe survivalist hipsters when he declared their deity, Christopher McCandless, a "terrible survivalist". If anyone has half a brain, they know Les is right and Christopher did almost everything wrong.
Bear is an ex-special forces officer, turned adventurer who is always after life's next great thrill. He has a lot of survivalist knowledge as well, but the purpose of his show was always to stage situations someone might encounter, no matter how extreme, and show how it's possible to survive. Bear was virtually never in any danger of starving or dehydrating - though he did put himself in physical harm by attempting ridiculous feats - and he had a crew with him at all times. He valued doing the most extreme things to encourage survival techniques, but also for the entertainment of the viewers. The downside to a lot of his survival techniques were twofold: 1) Bear is extremely athletic being ex-military, and was able to get out of things average people likely couldn't; and 2) his whole plan was to hike out of wherever he was. He almost never planned to set up camp, stay put, and get a bearing on his surroundings. He was always move, move, move, which again, could get an average person into even worse situations.

Two things, wrapping the copper tube with a seawater soaked rag will increase the still output. Two, bees and birds head to water morning and evening, you can follow them. Bees usually will only live within two miles of fresh water. Hiking in dry desert bees have somehow followed me and contiously drank my sweat.

Being a Canadian and living in cold climate you did really well in that area, as an Alaskan I have a difficult time in hot climates. Your primitive fire skills are very good. I have learned most all primitive friction fire methods and I like the methods used by west coast Alaskans the best. I actually mastered these techniques and have taught many their methods.

I think this video had my first issue ive ever had with survivorman. He went back for his fire because he said he didnt have any matches. It looks like hes got a ferro rod in his knife sheath, which would be easier than going back on a 15 minute walk just for the fire.
