@chukletmonster actually, i'm learning Japanese at the moment, and I'm not recognizing any Japanese words or phrases, but my mom (who had a Korean karate instructor who taught her a bit of Korean) says even though she can't speak it anymore she recognizes the language, and it is, in fact, Korean, not Japanese.
@MagnoMidnight well, i do NOT say EVERY chinese pronounce L as R or R as L. but SOME of them SOMETIMES pronounce it like that when they talk in OTHER languages. i live in Malaysia, we have more than 1 races here including chinese and my friends are mostly chinese. when they talk in english or malay, for exp 'lorry', some of them pronounce it as 'lolly' or rorry'. but yeah your right, when we talk in chinese the pronunciation is perfect. I DO know my facts!

For instance, a relative (don't really know him, couple generations ago) couldn't say his 'r's and said 'l's instead, and he was from the south. Clearly, there are people here who are chinese and say it fine, so it probably depends on what dialect you grew up with. It isn't that people can't say 'r's or 'l's, but that they aren't used to them.
@JEstayo It's not that Koreans and Japanese switch the pronunciation: they just don't have different letters for the two. "R" is "L" and "L" is "R". It's the same letter.
