I'm conflicted because it seems the DC's are leveled at newbies so they don't explode spools all the time, but my gut tells me to put in the time and get good at a "dumb" reel first. Leaning towards going with my gut, but I guess we will see how deep the discounts are come friday.
Got one (curado dc) about month or so ago. I am very happy with it. I have also been using baitcasters since 1979 or so. None are perfect but nothing ever is.
The rod has a lot do with the casting so don’t buy a dc and put it on some cheap vengeance rod or rod under 100$$$ and use the right power and action rod for your lure
I bought a 6’9” Abu Garcia veritas for my scorpion dc. What rod and size do you suggest? I’m thinking of using that rod for my SLX and getting 7’ plus for the scorpion
frank leaney yes I got a fenwick hmx medium heavy 7ft on my scorpion dc and it’s the best setup I got I love the feel of the fenwick and the scorpion together they lookin great to!
Bought my first DC last summer for my birthday. Best money I've ever spent on a baitcaster. The Scorpion DC17 is amazing. Only thing is I wish they weren't so touchy and carried more line.

I am going to throw all my Shimano and my Lew's reels in the trash tomorrow and replace all 20 of my reels with anew DC reels because I can't cast without DC! and never-never ever will I ever have a backlash again simply amazing what you need to catch a fish today.
I have the Antares monster drive and I love the reel, but I will say there are better reels for bigbaits/swimbaits. Shimano must be talking about 4-5 inch paddle tails when they say bigbaits, not the 8-10 ounce baits that Swimbait fisherman throw.
Casey Collins it’s really more about the weight than the length. But I’d say a 6 inch Swimbait probably does weigh more than 2 ounces. So there are a million options. I think the shimano conquest are the best Swimbait reels out there. But u could also get lexa 300s as a cheaper option, there’s really a lot of reels that would be adequate for that size lure it’s hard to just say one
Graysson Carl I haven’t really tested the limits of the reel but I normally throw up to 3 or 4 ounces on it. Anything heavier I have a couple conquest 400s I use.
Currently in Japan for the next 2 years, I bought a scorpion DC for 180, sent two back to the states for my brother, shimano has its own store of reels and bikes had to pick one up ! Unfortunately there's not a lot of lakes near my current post, have to travel 4 hours to fish.

They would absolutley have the best reel in the world!! No one would even bother to compete with them!!
Does using line backing (so you don't have to fill your whole reel with expensive line) mess up the calibration of these DC reels? I use a cheaper Tuff braid line on three quarters of the reel and then the rest of it with super slick Powerpro.
I have a question and I need to understand what I'm doing wrong. I just bought a Shimano Curado DC 150 hg. The problem I'm having is the capacity of braid line on the Curado DC spool. I'm using Kastking - Braided Line -- 30 lb. 327 yds. The reel specs calls for 30/150 or 450 LF of Power Pro. With the braid I'm using, the spool fills up with about 27 yds or 81 ft or less. ft. Is there a difference between the Power Pro Braid vs. the Kastking Braid.

The Scorpion and Metanium are going to be 100 line capacity in Shimano speak. The Curado DC is going to be a 150 line capacity, the Antares is probably a 200. The biggest line capacity will the be the Antares MD

Ive spent $2800 on a camera and $1100 on a lens, after about 8 years of photography experience, I could imagine after about another 10 years of fishing experience I dont think ill still be using a $79 Okuma reel im using now. Everybody spends a little extra for the things that interests them the most. Just look at the gamer geeks, bowlers, golfers, etc

I went curado for 200 after tax. An extra 3ft isn’t worth the hastle if I break it and have to send it to Japan for service- plus the curado looks better to me

That’s why there are different line modes because it controls that line that’s it’s made for better than using the wrong mode with the wrong line

Felix Silva it’s 8oz and barely holds any line. Do yourself a favor and get a Metanium MGL or DC instead.
