The Messiah was a concept that came about from endless persecution - the desperation of a people's need to look for someone to rescue them. Jesus is the Messiah for the Christians, not Jews. If you believe in Jesus, you are Christian, not Jewish. And no I have not read the New Testament, why would I? I have the original, I don't need the abridged, revised version.

Respectfully, Mr. Stanton, you are wrong on a number of issues. First, the Torah is not the "first five books of Moses" - there are ONLY five books of Moses, and no more than that. Second, there IS a difference between the Torah (what Christians call the "Old Testament") and the Tanach. The Torah is the 5 books of Moses. The Tanach is an acronym for Torah-Naviim (the Prophets) - Kesuvim (Writings). Tanach therefore includes more than the Torah, it includes other writings that are holy to Jews. Third, and most significantly, if you were born a Jew (i.e., have a Jewish mother), you should run as fast as you can from Messianic Judaism. There is a very good reason why religious Jews reject what Christians call "The New Testament," but you will not find out why in a church-funded institution.

Therefore, that brings the total number of Books written by Moses to six. However, I was more than that thinking about simply the first five Books of the Bible. The Old Testament in the Christian Bible contains 39 books. The Tenach contains 24 books. Why the difference? Because the 12 minor prophets are counted as one in the Torah. Ezra-Nehemiah as one. We combine a few other books such as first and second Samuel, Kings and Chronicles. That my friend is what I was referring to. However, I do NOT accept the doctrine of the Trinity. Also, this was the incident that caused the death of Sarah, Abraham's wife and Isaac's mother. She asked where they had gone, not knowing. She was told by haSatan, and she fell over dead from the horror. Abraham was being tested there for his faithfulness to God, but Isaac was also being taught first hand by God about an issue that was starting to come up among the Jewish people being drawn back to paganism. Read the whole paragraph, not just one verse. Isaiah is giving King Ahaz a sign that his kingdom will be saved. He points to a "young pregnant woman," who was probably king's wife, and says that before her baby knows enough to choose between good and evil, his kingdom will be saved. Isaiah lived 700 years before JC. Have you really based your religious belief on one mistranslated verse?

The concept of a virgin birth is Jewish - read Isa. 7:14 in the Tanakh. The word "virgin" is translated from the Hebrew word used for an unmarried woman old enough to be married, one who is sexually mature. Matityahu 1:23 quotes this as a fulfillment of the prophecy in that a virgin (Mary) would conceive & bear a son, Immanuel (God is with us), the Christ.
saiah 7:14 is referring to a pregnant woman in the room at the time. Virgin is a poor translation of "almah" which means young woman (not necessarily unmarried) Almah is used 9 times in the Hebrew Bible and in Proverbs 30:19 it refers to an adulterous wife. In Matthew translated to Greek uses "parthenos" which means maiden, not necessarily virgin although closer, but Matthew was written originally in Hebrew where the meaning is more clearly "young woman."

Your understanding is wrong about the binding of Isaac. The lesson there was for Isaac, who was an adult at that time, not a child. Human sacrifice was practiced by many societies around the Jewish community, (and as you believe as a Christian) this involves a human being sacrificed for the sins of the people. Isaac needed to understand what human sacrifice was, the horror of it, why God forbid it, as Isaac will soon be a leader of the Jewish people, and some Jews were tempted to return to that.

Teshuvah, or repentance, is an ongoing process. We study mussar, which is about working on your character traits. We deal with Hashem only, no middleman. And we do not believe in human sacrifice.

Second, there IS a difference between the Torah (what Christians call the "Old Testament") and the Tanach. The Torah is the 5 books of Moses. The Tanach is an acronym for Torah-Naviim (the Prophets) - Kesuvim (Writings). Tanach therefore includes more than the Torah, it includes other writings that are holy to Jews. Third, and most significantly, if you were born a Jew (i.e., have a Jewish mother), you should run as fast as you can from Messianic Judaism. There is a very good reason why religious Jews reject what Christians call "The New Testament," but you will not find out why in a church-funded institution.

Also, this was the incident that caused the death of Sarah, Abraham's wife and Isaac's mother. She asked where they had gone, not knowing. She was told by haSatan, and she fell over dead from the horror. Can you even imagine being a mother and wife and being told your husband went to murder your son, let alone as a pagan abomination of a human sacrifice? You should read "A Dictionary of Early Christian Beliefs" compiled by David Bercot. It's a compilation of 1st century Christians writers. You will find a consistent perspective on celebrating Jewish holidays that differs from what your research has shown you.
Abraham was being tested there for his faithfulness to God, but Isaac was also being taught first hand by God about an issue that was starting to come up among the Jewish people being drawn back to paganism. Isaac had to understand what human sacrifice is, the horror, the abomination it is as God says in the Torah. This is the actual explanation for the incident, in Judaism. Read the whole paragraph, not just one verse. Isaiah is giving King Ahaz a sign that his kingdom will be saved. He points to a "young pregnant woman," who was probably king's wife, and says that before her baby knows enough to choose between good and evil, his kingdom will be saved. Isaiah lived 700 years before JC. Have you really based your religious belief on one mistranslated verse?

The concept of a virgin birth is Jewish - read Isa. 7:14 in the Tanakh. The word "virgin" is translated from the Hebrew word used for an unmarried woman old enough to be married, one who is sexually mature. Matityahu 1:23 quotes this as a fulfillment of the prophecy in that a virgin (Mary) would conceive & bear a son, Immanuel (God is with us), the Christ.
saiah 7:14 is referring to a pregnant woman in the room at the time. Virgin is a poor translation of "almah" which means young woman (not necessarily unmarried) Almah is used 9 times in the Hebrew Bible and in Proverbs 30:19 it refers to an adulterous wife. In Matthew translated to Greek uses "parthenos" which means maiden, not necessarily virgin although closer, but Matthew was written originally in Hebrew where the meaning is more clearly "young woman."

Your understanding is wrong about the binding of Isaac. The lesson there was for Isaac, who was an adult at that time, not a child. Human sacrifice was practiced by many societies around the Jewish community, (and as you believe as a Christian) this involves a human being sacrificed for the sins of the people. And it's a mistranslation. Betula means virgin and alma means young woman. There is no concept in Judaism of a virgin birth. However, several pagan religions have exactly that concept, along with being born on december 25, dying and being resurrected, being the son of God.
