A peek at my new book, Orange County Then & Now from Arcadia Publishing - - coming out January 24th, 2011 - now available for pre-order: www.amazon.com/Orange-County-T...
One of my neighbors told us that where Lemon Park is in Fullerton always was full of Trees of Lemons or Orange. And they feel sad that their grandchildren don't want to hear their stories. They're very interesting
My grandparents moved to So Cal in 1951. Settled in San Clemente. Then eventually settled in Santa Ana. A nice small community with fruit orchards, small neighborhoods and cute little homes..
I was just in Huntington Beach yesterday visiting my grandbaby, my daughter in law took a picture of the baby and me in front of the new Huntington Beach pier sign carved into the cement wall. I started crying I couldn't fathom ever standing with a grandbaby at the beach that I spent my entire childhood.
I'm not from that age but I've seen things change over the decades since the 80'. It does make you feel melancholic. I mean, dreams are lost, your little junior high school sweet little girl whom both of yous lost their inosensse (pardon the grammar) is lost. Man, . What's there left to do?? This world is moving way too fast.
My parents bought a house in the neighborhood of bayshores, in Newport Beach, in the late 60’s for $72,000. Real estate has sure appreciated since then!
Shawn Drew shawn I grew up on Anaheim I'm 56 now , my mother was born I'm Anaheim in 1936 and still lives ther along with her sister my aunt who was born there also in 1930 . Believe me your are 100 percent right how they ruined Anaheim , it was fred hunter and Lincoln development Irv pickler and the rest of those assholes sorry , it pisses me off I'm sure it was Disney too down town today doesn't exist anymore because Disney paid the city officials to move it to downtown Disney fact!
My parents were moved out by eminent domain , which states it for improvements of the area. well it's no improvement for the people it effected I'm sure alot of city officials got something at our expense. Buy the people out cheap redevolpe the area sell for huge profits samething they did to all those people at the Dodger stadium land its bullshit
I miss my O.C. it was so calm and peaceful back in the 60's-80's .
It was the best then.
Saddleback High class of 72
I wish it still looked like it did when I was small. So quiet and uncrowded. OC just isn't the same place anymore. I agree, it's just so sad.

I love this, as a person who grew up in Huntington Beach. But it would be so helpful if the photos had information, geolocation.
HB was apparently disgusting back in the day. Just oil wells and black water.
Agreed. It also would have been nice to see side by sides.

I'm amazed that you found so many archival photos! Actually, I might have liked living in the "then," times...charming!
