    I think you'd enjoy The Murlocs a lot. It's Ambrose's other band, where he sings all songs and play blues rock with plenty of harmonica playing. I'd personally recommend the song What If? as a starter!!

    I definitely enjoy live versions of this song better than the studio version. That being said, I still jam out to the studio version whenever it comes on!

    A lot of the classic Miles Davis records were recorded in a similar way - record of bunch of jam sessions and piece them together to make songs/a record. The German band CAN, who King Gizzard are big fans of, also did the same thing to make their records. I can’t understate the influence of 70’s German experimental rock on King Gizz. It’s a big part of why I love them, they’re taking influence from bands like CAN and Neu! and putting their own twist on it.

    When Ambrose said "Best plummer in the world" he was talking about Cavs father that was behind the scenes iirc

    Last year I decided to go see King Gizz in Athens, Greece, playing two nights back to back with different setlists. But a few days before the gigs, Cavs got COVID.... And they still played both nights with a live drum machine (mind blown! Huge respect!). The first night was more mellow and an acoustic kinda set. They unleashed it on the second set with a full on garage microtonal disco rave, and they closed with The Dripping Tab - that was wild, still my favourite version of this song 😂 as well as O.N.E. that sounded like it was meant to be THAT way

    yeah when you reach Gaia you gotta hear the Highway Holidays live version, will make you appreciate Cavs lol

    I think Calm Ya Farm by The Murlocs (Ambrose and cookie's other band) would make you so fucking happy. From how you've talked in previous reactions, you and your dad would (I hope) have a great time together with that album.
    It's psychy, it's country, it's bluesy, it's alty, it's 100% ambrose's voice, with all the harmonica and sax you could ask for. And cookie fucks those basslines all the way up 😤😤😤🙏

      Can't recommend this enough! Calm Ya Farm was my album of the summer this year (with 3D Country by Geese)

    When this song first came out I wasn’t too hot on it-it’s just such an adrenaline shot. But over time it really grew on me. Kicks so much ass. Could have it go on forever

    "While the song was first released on " _Omnium Gatherum_ ", an early version of the song was first played during the " _Fishing for Fishies_ " sessions, the song would be scrapped until after COVID-19 lockdowns were lifted, when the song was re-recorded and finished with all band members present. The band recorded an extended jam and then edited the best segments into the completed song."

    You gotta introduce your dad to Ambrose's other bands The Murlocs. Plenty of harmonica and bluesy/soulful rock. Very different to King Gizzard, but still amazing in their own right.

    I guess I'm sort of alone in this opinion, but I sorta wish you did the studio version. KEXP sessions are very good, but actual live sets they tend to play songs at different tempos than normal, and they always sound a bit different (I don't know if it's cause they are actually playing different notes, or just the drastic change in the mix). In the studio version I feel you can hear what every instrument is doing, it just seems muddled live to me. But in the end it's your call.
    EDIT: Sweet Ghost shirt, another killer band.

      I agree. Should always be the studio version first and then you can compare the live versions to it.
      Straws in the Wind is a good example. It's incredible live, but I can't stand the album version.

    Ambroses voice indeed is awesome, and i think this distorted fx adds to overall atmosphere and energy of the whole show, i think they all have that distortion effect on their mics, they have used vintage mics before to achieve this kindof sound i think, dunno if thats the case nowadays as we dont really get closeups on them. i think Ambroses voice shines alot when its present, theres an older track called cut throat boogie about Ambrose having his neck slit open by his friend by accident, its alot punkish and blues directed but it is awesome, it also has this very hard panning i dont think that there are any instruments in the mid section of stereo sound lol. he does play harmonica on this track too. i really love his screaming voice it sounds so powerful and stable unlike when a singer with a lower range tries to sing high raspy-screamish lines. listening to The Murlocs and King gizz got me into buying myself a harmonica heh.
    Stu once crowd-surfed during this track and told people to take him to the sea right next to stage, and then he got back on stage and continued playing, that was killer haha.

      @2510LuL ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they plug their mics into guitar amps or tubescreamers for the distortion

    I think you will end up liking OG alot because it's just a collection of good songs without trying to fit a certain theme or concept. It shouldn't fall into the same trap of feeling too samey or one pace.

    The Dripping Tap is hit-or-miss for me. Some parts are awesome, some just go on way too long. I really think you could shave off five minutes and come away with a better song.
    Excited for OG. It's one of their most diverse albums in terms of genre-bending.

  • @Madero775
    @Madero775 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Dripping Tap is about climate change. Song has a lot more gravitas to it when I realised. The drip is slowing drowning us, and we’re running out of time to stop it or learn how to deal with it. And the suits are the only ones that can stop the drip/end of the world. It’s a bit of a comment around the paradoxical nature of the problem being that it can only be stopped by the ones who are causing it.

    Magenta mountain in super different depending on studio or live version. If you are gonna do live, at least do studio first
