    The #1 rule of pretty much any GnG game is get the knife, keep the knife. And yes, this game is evil, insanely difficult, and addicting. Great job on getting it working again!

    Fun fact about Ghosts and Goblins: It does, in fact, hate you. When it was originally in development, the devs repeatedly asked the testers "So, what did you think about this part?" and then they went out of their way to make that one part even harder. Over and over again.

    Interesting that although the game is 'Ghosts 'N Goblins' (Ghosts being plural), the artwork on the control panel reads 'Ghost 'N Goblins'.

    • @MxArgent

      The CPO artwork looks custom, but there is a funny coincidence here - Literally no chance whoever made the cab would have known this, but one of the sets emulated in MAME is a prototype [Set name gngprot] that also calls the game "Ghost'n Goblins".

    The GnG series is probably my favourite arcade game series, but I've never been much of a gamer so I've only ever gotten through it by cheating. It's the art, the atmosphere, the music, the level design that gets me. It all comes together with such amazing creativity... The punishing difficulty was never a plus for me

    I have repaired several of these pcb's, bootlegs and originals. There are 3 layers if I remember correctly, sprite background and text. There is also a FLIP signal that flips these layers. Looks like a problem with the FLIP signal on one or 2 of the layers. Even though the game works now, it's still "BROKE" and you might run into trouble in the future. My suggestion is to look at this signal in all three layers, shouldn't be too difficult to repair.

    • @Dallen9
      @Dallen9 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LyonsArcade That's how the cocktail mode works. in cocktail mode it just flips the "play-field" but it leaves the Text where it lays. to test for it you need to be in 2 player mode and it should flip the "play-field" if it's in Cocktail mode.

    After watching "The Angry Video Game Nerd Channel" you have to complete the game twice to finish it. The first run through is called an illusion. They make you start from the beginning and do it all over again. After the second play through the game finally finishes. Crazy!!

    My Grandma had this cabinet in her movie theatre in the 80s. It was a Ms. Pacman. It had side art only on the lower half, art on the front, and a mini top marquee in addition to the lower one. Pretty sure it was bought straight from Bally who operated an Alladins Castle arcade directly across the mall from the cinema.

    That was a weird initial bug in the game. Not sure how the dip switch would even rotate the scrolling layer and sprites, and leave the foreground layer the right way up! Any game would swap all of them at once so the person playing can see their score the right way up!

    I went to a theme park called Alton Towers in England in the mid '80s and they had loads of these caberet games with all different boards in them but they also had side art and an unlit marquee topper.
    That game was weird! the title was the correct way up but the gameplay was upside down, that is something I have never seen before, I thought it was a bootleg board as I had one of these games and the board was very different, I was thinking that the video was created on the separate boards one for the gameplay and another for the text, that's weird!

    I'd just like to say a couple things on the 13" G07 flybacks; the replacement 19" flybacks technically aren't suitable to replace the 13" ones (can overvolt the tube); most people I know leave it alone on the 13" if it's not failed. SECONDLY, the white wire that comes off the flyback and goes up to the screen/focus controls should be routed through the body of the flyback and cut shorter (As noted on arcadepartsandrepair's item page). Also, GLWS! Saw this on CL!

    • @LyonsArcade

    You could take the buttons out. Get a bunch of good photos. Get one straight on photo. Take it into photoshop and get to work. Then make a printout and place it over the original paintwork. (DO NOT USE ADHESIVE PAPER). This will help preserve the original work by shielding it from light and give a new high quality result.

    Don't you just love the Cabaret machine? I have three (Missile Command ,Gorf, and Battlezone) and if there is ever a pain in the butt machine to work on? It's a Cabaret cabinet. Back breaking, and due to the smaller footprint, much more heat prone. I've had to do extensive mods like fans, solder reflow, and ribbon cable changes just to keep up. They are fun, but, and especially with Atari Cabaret, the damn things are like a Ferrari, fun as hell when working, a true testament of torture when not working. At least the PCB's are standard, and don't have SMC soldering. But parts are HARD to find. Especially 6502 chips, 2112 SRAM chips. Then new chips and components are not always standard. And God save you if you need a power supply rebuild or a CRT regeneration.

    Hey Joe!!

  • @ocsrc

    The 60 in 1 Multicade boards, in the description of them it says they can work off a standard power supply in the original cabinets or it can accept an ATX molex standard 12/5 volt connector for power and it has a 15 pin VGA connector.
    It also says it has 2 trackball connections.
    Is it possible to run the board without the original board that the game had ?
    The edge connector looks like it plugs into the original cabinet connector and would have the joystick and button wires and the power supply and the coin door wires and the CGA or TV output that would go to the original CRT in a cabinet, but it sounds like this board can work on its own without any of the original hardware and could have an aftermarket joystick and button wired to the board through the 2 trackball connectors.
    Is that possible ?
    Could you make a cabinet and put in an LED monitor and have a fully functional multicade cabinet with just an ATX power supply and a joystick and button?
    I don't see anything about how it gets the 1 or 2 players active or selected.
    I imagine that original edge connector had the 1 or 2 player buttons wired into it.
    It would be nice to see custom cabinets made on the CNC machine and have these 60 in 1 boards wired up in them.
    I wonder how smoothly they play.
    The MAME emulator on a PC runs the games smoothly but I don't know what processor power these boards have.

    • @playy1797
      @playy1797 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've answered your previous remark on the 60 in 1 board as well. It's called an Icade, not Multicade, the Multicade is a different board.
      The 60 in 1 runs quite an early version of Mame and the games are pretty good but not perfectly emulated. especially the sound is off on some games, but the games are quite acceptable to most people, except Arcade purists. What you say is partially true. You can use a normal pc power supply and hook up the VGA to a monitor, You will still need to wire joysticks and buttons to the edge connector, but then you can play the games as if on an arcade machine. To get around the boards menu you'll need to hook up more than one fire button, though. Also you cannot use the trackball inputs for regular buttons. Those are on there for trackball games like Super Breakout, Many people make or buy cabinets with these Icade boards in them. If you think it'd be nice to see cabinets cnc'd and run these boards all you have to do is look around on the internet, you should find them quite easily.
