Romany Rye - a poem

This one is about identity and human rights and, more specifically, about Gypsies, or Romani, or Romanies, travellers and immigration. The history of origins, in North West India, migration across to Europe and the suffering and injustices inflicted on these semi-nomadic peoples over the centuries, are part of the poem.
It could just as easily be spelt Romani Rai.
My paternal grandmother was a Gypsy, called Florence Moss and her father Ernie (sometimes known as Ernie Winterbottom) was my great grandfather, who I actually met, when I was 4 years old. The legend in my family was that the Mosses were descended from Gypsies who occupied the area around the Scottish Border, near Carlisle and the Lake District, and had been involved somehow as guides, for one side or another, in the adventure of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his companions.
