You're just wrong. Cars with small motors like the 1.5T are very efficient at 40-60 mph when the turbo doesn't need to spool. Educate yourself 👍@@larryrios6688
I got a Model Y. Believe it, the wow factor wears off if youre a typical commuter and youre questioning your insurance, your monthly payment, the odd design choices of the 'gear shifter'. If I could do it all over again, its this car, no doubts.
I've got a 23 Sport Touring 6MT. These 11th gen Civics are fantastic cars. This hybrid makes a fantastic car even better. I'll probably stick with my manual 23 as it gets 38-42MPG, but the hybrids are tempting.
1) The drive system is not complicated, just different. This is an Electric Vehicle that is powered by a battery and/or a generator. The direct-drive mode is like overdrive in a conventional car. 2) As others have pointed out, the vents under the rear seat are to cool the battery. What they don't mention is that this draws air from the cabin, creating ventilation in the rear seat. 3) The generator drives the motor first; only the excess power charges the battery. While this seems like a very picky point, it is important. Charging and discharging the battery adds maybe 10% of unnecessary loss. In fact, EV mode uses gas - that you burned earlier. It is the least efficient use of gas. The reason it happens is because the engine might be 30% efficient producing just enough power for cruising, but 40% efficient when it overproduces. So the energy used directly is 40% efficient and the energy used from the battery is 40%-4%=36% efficient. 4) The regen level set by the paddles can be maintained, in any mode, by holding the shifter back for a second or so. An "M", for "Manual", appears in the display.
This is perfect!!! I have been saying this for years now. The engine should only act as a generator for electric motors. They shouldn't even be simulating gear shifts. The engine needs to be at peak efficiency at one rpm and you'd be able to have a quieter less powerful engine to charge the batteries which in turn power the electric motors.
@10:25 if it's anything like the Accord hybrid, in sport mode your regen setting will stick but as soon as you put it in normal or econ and hit the accelerator it will go back to auto mode
I’m gonna be honest, puttering around in a ‘08 Fit, this Civic is gonna be a huge step up for me. I’m looking forward to the test drive coming up when I’m out shopping.
If I ever sell my 2012 TSX Wagon, this Civic Hatchback Hybrid would be on my short list.....sweet utility, build quality and fun to drive....characteristics I admire.
Regen setting does not auto cancel in sport mode, it does in the other modes. The reasons become apparent once you have put some time behind the wheel. On a twisty road in sport mode the fixed regen setting is very much like driving in a lower gear where you are constantly accelerating and decelerating. On normal streets or highways in normal mode it is better for it to auto cancel rather than remain fixed so that when you take your foot off the pedal the car will not decelerate but instead will switch into EV mode.
A friend got 59mpg on this same 2025 Honda hybrid twice. You just need to know how the car works. Engine fully locks to the Trans via an actual clutch plate above 60mph where the engine is most efficient. otherwise, engine mostly stays at 2000rpm to charge the battery and provide power to the E-Motor. Drive it below 39mph in the city and its electric only mode which will give you excellent MPG.
Except the Accord. The Civic styling is a HR, the 11h Gen Accord.... :(. I'd buy a Civic Sport Touring Hybird 100 times out of 100 over an Accord Touring

My 1999 Accord V-6 had 200hp…crazy talk! I owned an FK8 so it’s interesting to see a Civic Hybrid consistently hitting 6 sec 0-60 times when my FK8 would’ve been mid 5’s if I held my tongue just right!😁 I’m just waiting for that view chasing TH-camr to equip one of these hybrids with all of those lightweight carbon fiber parts that they put on the Acura Type S,minus the rear seat delete(unless cooling vents can be installed on that carbon fiber piece over the battery pack😁) Too bad the engine isn’t more than a generator/battery charger as it would’ve been interesting to see if Jackson Racing could’ve supercharged it like the CRZ.
I really was interested in buying the 2025 Honda Civic hybrid Hatchback in blue. What made me change my mind in buying this car was the price of the hybrid replacement battery just Incase I need to replace it one day. The cost is between $2000.00 - $8000.00 dollars depending on the year and model.
One thing people need to realize is that the total system horsepower of 204 is not achievable at US road legal speeds, and the 181 hp from the electric motor is only accessible when the battery is charged. When the battery is depleted, the engine's 141 horsepower goes through the generator and what's left is about 127 hp after losses. This is a minor thing that shouldn't matter . The vast majority of the time, the battery is charged enough to have 181 hp on tap. Assuming 1kWh of usable battery space, this means with the engine running full steam, a full battery will let you produce full 181 hp for 90 seconds
After having my civic hybrid sedan for a few weeks I can say that I never feel like I ever have any less power when driving long distances etc. it always feels strong.
@@ZACH_95_ If you climb a mountain pass or tow a trailer up hill or in heavy stop/go you might run into issues. Other than that I see no reason to expect the full 181hp to be limited, and you almost have to go out of your way for it to.
@JMaxx-fn4he You're lowballing it. I get 50 mpg in my sport 6mt. This car will be capable of low 60s with just easy driving and mid 70s in ideal conditions
Your post is really interesting. I’ve only seen some reference to this in a Reddit post, not in any other review. Suggests to me that Honda isn’t being entirely transparent about the specs for their hybrid system even though you say it’s a minor thing.
At this point, it's clear that the Civic hybrid competes with the Prius rather than the Corolla hybrid in both price and performance. While both sadly lack rear AC, the Civic falls behind on comfort features when the top trim doesn't have ventilated seats or rear USB ports, while the Prius does. Makes it a hard choice for me living in a hot climate.
It is optional to have a rear spoiler for the hatchback but It's in under accessories' and as of now there no HPD package to include the spoiler and other stuff but the same spoiler, front underbody spoiler are under accessories'
such a weird concept for a hybrid car to me but I really like it, this would make an awesome and comfortable daily for sure. Honda is doing many things right with their 11th gen Civic imo. Sadly their pricing in Germany is a bit out of this world, especially for the Type R.
Apparently it's quicker than the Si. Also if you brake torque it, it will hold the engine at the optimal rpm without the fake shifts so it's even quicker. Personally I think the new engines sound awful and wish there was a way to completely mute them since the digital ones sound even worse, but I guess it is what it is. At least it looks good.
The E-CVT civic is pretty well about simulation better than CRV HEV and Accord HEV. Because the civic changed gear so fast like Dual Cluth Transmission, its a E-CVT 😂
I just really wish I could option the LSD from the SI to one of these. That would make it great in the snow. That alone might be the thing that is putting me off getting one of these.
Winter tires will make it great in the snow. Helical LSDs, like the Si’s aren’t designed to help with snow. They’re designed to help push power to the outside wheel in high traction situations.

Nice review of the car man. I think both the drive-train as well as the interior of the car are amazingly well worked out. But for real I don't get the exterior design of the car. The previous generation seemed amazingly sporty and well designed. But the new one... looks like a Temu copy of the old one where they tried to save money on the exterior looks.
This has been so overblown. I kind of had the same attitude before getting one. It's not the sort of thing you need to lay awake at night worrying about.
Ok so I have a few thoughts about this. The Atkinson cycle engine, plus the two different generators makes me worried about a) mechanical longevity and b) service if things go wrong. There is definitely the charm of an EV with all that torque right from launch. The car looks pretty nice, especially for 30k. It's just an EV that fixes the main problem, charging. I mean yeah its a gas motor making the electricity but it's better than nothing.
This drivetrain has been in use since the 2014 PHEV Accord. It’s not new or rare and it’s extremely reliable. Weber Auto has some good videos on the operation. They drive like EVs, which is great. Immediate torque whenever you want it (before the engine revs up). Perfectly smooth and consistent. Very quiet when you take it easy. No gears, not even reverse. Atkinson Cycle is just a valve timing thing, and they use Vtec. Really, far less complex than the turbocharged chain-type CVT civics.
I want one but my Prius eco gets 57mpg on average 7 years old and zero problems and have original brakes at 207600 miles. It’s just slow and boring but gets the job done. I would take a hit on the mpg but will be driving a much faster exciting car. But how reliable will this civic hybrid be? I doubt if it’s as reliable as the Prius
one thing I don't get is why is there no USB ports in the back??? I would love to see at least one in the back because my 2022 Nissan Sentra SV and that has a USB port in the back
I can totally fault Honda for not giving HVAC controls in the rear seat. And, I can certainly fault them for not giving USB charging in the rear seat, or at least a 12 volt. And third, I can fault them, along with a number of other manufacturers, for doing that bizarre thing where the only give one rear seatback pocket. What the hell is that? How much more could it possibly cost them to put in one more seatback pocket? Those arguably small things are very irritating. This is a 2025 car, and it's not like it's priced at $22,000 dollars. This top end trim has an MSRP of around $32,000, so some, if not all, of those cost cutting moves are unacceptable and inexcusable.
Atkinson cycle leaves the intake valve open for about 20% of the compression stroke pushing some of the air back into the intake rather than closing it at the bottom of the intake stroke. Theres a smaller intake charge which burns more efficiently during combustion. You gain efficiency but lose low end power. Hybrids can use this since at low revs the battery powers the wheels. Atkinson cycle can be implemented part time on Otto Cycle vehicles with variable valve timing as well (pretty sure LC500 does this).
The engine drone seems like it might be annoying. I’d like to know how much of it can be heard just cruising at 70-75 in Normal driving mode (that is, without fake engine noise added)?
i miss my hatchback i had a blue 1980 two door civic dx i bought it for 2500 it had 88 thousand highway miles mostly he said. it had no air conditiong so i put a sunroof in it. it got 40 mpg on the highway 5 speed. my ten speed bike could fit in the trunk and my 97 year uncle said my car had more leg room than my dads chevy caprice. yea chevy dont know how to make cars thats why i only buy japenese cars.
I’m not really a fan of the hatch/sportback. You lose out on cargo length. So, unless you’re stacking more than a foot high, you’re losing out on real cargo size. I prefer the proportions of the upcoming Kia K4 Hatch. It very much resembles a Volvo.

Nice! I like my gas version!
I just wish these civics overall, especially the Si, had more hp.
Your cheapest MB A-classes or BMW 2 series pack a bit more punch
And cost 10,000 dollars more
That’s a misplaced wish. You would have a point if we were talking about the Integra, but the Civic doesn’t compete with the CLA or 2 series
Just incase it was mentioned and I missed it, is Honda going to give the Type-R these upgrades?
I have the sedan version and I've noticed a small rattle coming from the driver side A-pillar when playing music and rolling over little bumps
one thing I don't get is why is there no USB ports in the back??? I would love to see at least one in the back because my 2022 Nissan Sentra SV and that has a USB port in the back
Waiting with bated breath for dealers to get these babies in.
I wish I could afford a new car, because I'd get one of these.
Man. I was gonna get a corrola cross or something like that so i can fit my bike inside
I think the "engine" sound at 13:37 is fake because its in sport mode.
How do you disable the tracking module on this car, that Honda has on all vehicles sending data to LexisNexis?
0-30 it will be smoking a lot of soccer moms.😳
I like the dash layout better than the Jazz eHEV. Does this model have the B mode on the transmission, which is full brake regeneration?
Exactly, no charging in the rear seats is stupid, last year civics had charging, why remove it ???
Day 40 of asking Tedward to drive the S60R (love the color of that thing, reminds me of rebel blue on older polestars)
Great tie in!
How come the 2021-2024 Sport Touring trims had the chrome tipped exhaust? Does it have something to do with the Hybrid Engine?
What is an Atkinson cycle motor? I read up and still need an ELI5.
4:53 what is this new chime supposed to indicate?
That is a fantastic question. I watched 3 times and cannot confirm haha.
@@TedwardDrives It corresponds very closely to when the disclaimer appears on your screen.
Does this have the new wheel with that sound channel to reduce tire noise like the sedan?
Is the hatchback version is nosier inside than the berline?
Sweet
I wished they kept the spoke wheels from the non hybrid
The engine drone seems like it might be annoying.
I’d like to know how much of it can be heard just cruising at 70-75 in Normal driving mode (that is, without fake engine noise added)?
Watch my sedan highway video from Montreal
@@TedwardDrives I remember watching that video and, as I recall, you really didn’t get the chance to get out on the highway.
How laggy would you consider the old infotainment system compared to the base 7in infotainment system?
i miss my hatchback i had a blue 1980 two door civic dx i bought it for 2500 it had 88 thousand highway miles mostly he said. it had no air conditiong so i put a sunroof in it. it got 40 mpg on the highway 5 speed. my ten speed bike could fit in the trunk and my 97 year uncle said my car had more leg room than my dads chevy caprice. yea chevy dont know how to make cars thats why i only buy japenese cars.
"sentra vs a civic" wut? do they even make those anymore, lol. I checked - apparently they do, bless their little hearts
Is that seat-back storage only on the passenger seat? What a bizarre decision
So no temperature gauge???
I’m not really a fan of the hatch/sportback. You lose out on cargo length. So, unless you’re stacking more than a foot high, you’re losing out on real cargo size. I prefer the proportions of the upcoming Kia K4 Hatch. It very much resembles a Volvo.
