my take is vids like this are fine so long as you arent JUST saying "im leaving..." but with extra words and instead are voicing the reasons you are leaving/ refuse to play for the forseeable future so that way than there is a understanding behind what you disliked out there in the world for people to see and talk about and maybe the devs to see and talk about and DO something about perhaps being the thing to try to bring you and people like you back to the game. if it aint that than why are you complaining ot the void and expecting anyone to respond unless your that outta the loop that no one would necessarily care enough to need a video ONLY saying your leaving your you just like the sound of your own voice.

i will say tho that 3600 hours may be rookie numbers to someone whos job is based off of playing the game but i for example have 1678 hours and have had the game since like 2018 and been playing off and on but still being a part of the community.
on top of that tho i left because i played for long enough and did enough trials and played through all the dungeons enough times to realise the flaw plauging eso for me at least was that it was a fake MMORPG. flat out the game parades around acting like its one when in reality it actually plays as a open world story game with slight rpg and mmo components with this actually being the issue MOST 'MMORPGS' today have is they focus WAYYY too much on solo play for games that literally have Massivily Multiplayer Online and Role Playing Game as its literally fuckin name. like too much shit can be solo'd and invincible builds that force everyone to min max as MASTERS OF ALL TRADES, NOVICES IN NONE.... type classes that there is no class identity and no need to play with other people or really properly coordinate and even than, the times there is namely being for trials, you still have no choice to min max you build or get kicked meaning you get no proper MMORPG experiences anywhere outside of sweatfesting it as you cant just go around a town and find a good group balance of acutal class characters and have the good old MMORPG dungeon dive taking it slow to clear out hte challenging enemies nad moving forward towards a boss or loot or maybe something more thats deeper in the dungeon! honestly it was kinda sad after i put that many hours in just to realise that there was no chance that the game can ever beome a real MMORPG anyways...

I have 5k+ hours in ESO abut haven’t touched the game in a little over 2 years because of the performance issues.
The devs only push out new content to make casuals or new players fall into the same trap I did. I developed an unhealthy addiction to the game and had lots of fun but also lots of frustrating experiences. The dev team is however incompetent & never fix anything so I moved on.

Re: Why not do the surveys?
If I was sick of the game and was going to quit, the last thing I would want to do would be to grind out 1000+ surveys taking up who knows how many hours of my time only to give it all away.
I’d be looking to cut my losses, not to invest even more of my lifespan into the game before bailing.
I’m still here playing and enjoying the game, but that video gave me some things to think about.

A very good point. As a new player (me) I depend on the rewards from quests, dailies. But they are irrelevant in relation to the prizes. Problem: rewards don't scale with level, so motivation is lacking accordingly. And not everyone has 8 twinks to do the craft dailies. And the prices for jewellery are ridiculously high and not balanced.

I’ve played for a very long time, it’s best to sortve make your own fun in ESO, the quests are more or less the flavor of the main dish, so to speak. If you don’t have an imaginative streak, it’ll be difficult to get into some quest lines. For example, there was some quests in older maps that I did but in my mind there was a whole other more interesting story tied into said quest and my personal additions in my mind made it much more fun to do(Grahtwood, Greenshade, those sort of oldies the newer maps are a bit less dry with their funny) You haven’t lived until your role played a better dancing outside a wayshrine for gold

Also when you're a new player, you are in this "Honeymoon" phase. That phase makes it very easy to ignore the problems the game has. When that wears off and you have to make the critical choice to commit or leave, people will more likely leave this game because Monetizing lately has been targeting New Players for quick cash.

  • @Lynxic
    @Lynxic ปีที่แล้ว +39

I faded it out at the end because I'm limited to 3 character deletions 😂 but I do wanna clear up a couple points:
Sunk cost fallacy is indeed one of the reasons I actively deleted and deconstructed everything. It ensures to myself that I'll never trick myself into coming back to a game that I know, after it improves for a short period of time, would go back to being a frustrating mess all over again. Now I know I won't go back because I'm not grinding all that shit again lmao.
A fair number of people misconstrue the video's purpose. I didn't make it to somehow send a message to ZoS because I good and well know at this point that they don't care about me. I made it to share my experiences with the game to other players, share my thoughts, my problems and issues with the game and its direction and priorities, and what the conclusion I came to was. I'm not out to "stick it to ZoS" because there's little to no point.
"Why didn't you just sell your account?" I could've, but I wanted to help out a friend who still does play the game instead.
The video wasn't really made for personal attention, instead it was made to share the piled up frustrations of a community that, despite pumping so much passion into the game, were extremely minimally rewarded in return. It's literally the EA saying of "a sense of pride and accomplishment" since we basically just raid for clout.

It is sad to see this. But the backlash zos faces now is due to the accumulation of resentment over the years. I feel more sad about the part of his life this (and any) player invested in this game waiting for better days. I think coming into this game and expecting anything beyond a casual mmo is setting yourself up for disappointment. Maybe its time for a dragon break and a move to a new ES multiplayer game that has learned from the mistakes of this. Or just F* ZoS as a studio and go play GW2 or FFXV which are having their peak (or smthing like it) now.
Good for the guy, its as close to a clean break, burn the house, burn the bridges approach as you can get. I respect that. Lastly, yeah you can sell your account, but for peanuts, 50-100-200eu or $, barely a dent in the amount of money you have paid over the years. Even if you keep your account as a lurker some bs PR guy will still count you as one of the millions accounts that play ESO to attract new customers. Even if 70-80% of those accounts (if not more) are not really active. At least making this video raises a discussion.

One thing I think the devs, and all of the u35 apologists, don't understand is that they're is a huge difference between power given and power earned.
Power creep because of exploits, etc do suck and make the game less fun. That's power given.
Power creep because of leveling, grinding, and just getting better at playing the game is fun. That's power earned.
Most people would agree that the current level of power creep needed to be addressed. The problem is that devs tried to address this by nerfing power earned. Then when everyone complained, they tried to rectify the situation by giving more power.

I think I get where he's coming from about affording potions and mats for raiding. The problem is there is virtually no other way to afford it without becoming invested in the trader game. There is a path, but it takes a hell of a lot of time, and constant regular engagement. You need to level crafters, farm nodes, find an entry level trade guild and sell for cheap, earn enough to get into one with a better trader location, possibly spend hours flipping, all the research required to understand the economy and using TTC/MM effectively, and then you can start spending more time raiding than all of the above.

TBH: now I want to do one of these videos to my PVP characters that are just sitting on the server, dust all over them. 9,000 hours on steam. I bought every single gold item every weekend at the pvp vendor ( I always had extra to spend ).
Bought every single house gold could buy. I bought MULTIPLE houses from crown crate conversions ( gold converted from people who spent real life money ).
I had hundreds of Wax, the Gold cloth material as I had an insane bear farm. I called it the Bang Bear farm. Some here might know me from it. I was the guy who just stampede circled for hours in-between pvp encounters. The Sanquine Nobel house alone was a massive purchase. Isn't selling an account illegal?
I can calculate at least over 100-150 mil or more in game gold in materials.
Would be fun to just give that away.
Been really hoping for the game to come back to life.
Elden Ring PVP has just been too damn good, just not as social ( in-game )

As a veteran myself who doesn't play much eso anymore other than raiding once a week and managing our guild hall. Potions are really expensive. I don't sell much through guild traders, I don't like doing the dailies because it's not only boring but also time consuming. In the past I've gotten my potions from PvP (Alliance Pots), but it's been a while since I've done PvP for obvious reasons. I'm currently burning my gold and ap savings. Either that or I use Trash Potions and tweak my build to still get the important buffs. And golding out sets is outside my reach anymore most of the time. Of course it wouldn't be that hard to get potions or upgrade materials if you play regularly, but right now I just don't enjoy Eso enough and prefer playing other games.
    Tl;dr
If you are only raiding potions and upgrade materials are ridiculously expensive.

I'm giving some of the profits for the social guild I was staying, and then just gonna give the gold for some random low level player I see. (10.8 mil atm and I still have shit loads to sell). :D My breaking point was the hecking new teleportation animation thing. it is exactly the same as the before just different colour, but they want 100 gems for that. So many bugs, inflation out of hand, PvP always forgotten, no real good ways to earn gold besides focusing on selling, farming and flipping (as a PvP player that was not in my interests), but they still religiously roll them damn crates to milk more money out of us. I have already paid for the game, all dlc all chapters, giving them money every damn month from subbing for years, and then they have the gall to ask 100 gems for that damn different colour animation. The audacity. it is not that I want it, it is their attitude. Heck this game, the devs thinking us as a joke.

I did something like this back when Blackwood launched. I deleted my launch character - the only character I had - which had over 40K achievement points, rank 47 PVP, and a lot of hours invested over seven years at that point. The game had grown stale and I wanted to free up my ESO time to do other things. Ironically if I had waited a few patches I could have saved most of those achievements and come back. But I would have to redo the PVP stuff, which isn’t very appealing. Of course, deletion is the ultimate fate of every MMO character, whether voluntary or not, when the game eventually goes offline.

I think, the way I would stop playing would be by gradually playing less, not logging in regularly anymore, and then at some point realizing that I should cancel ESO+. That is how it went with other games. I would either want to keep everything intact to be able to come back and play with the people I know, or there would be nobody left to give my stuff to. Even if I would give some things away, I would make sure that I could still have an easy return if I ever wanted.
Destroying everything, because you might be tempted to come back, makes no sense to me. If you are tempted to come back, there is not shame in playing again. If they make changes that address your grievances with the game or put out content you are interested in, there is no reason to not give it a shot. Don't take the flaws and mistakes of ZOS personally. They certainly don't take you leaving personally.

I've always thought something like this was a little dramatic. I chuckle a little when I see things like this. Don't get me wrong, I understand why people do it. It's probably very cathartic for some people. But when I quit WoW, I just turned if off, cancelled my sub and that was it. I could login today and my boys would still be there (gear probably gone from someone pirating my character), but I don't because I just don't want to play.
I feel a lot of the complaints going on about ESO these days. And yes, the rewards system is total crap. For some reason that didn't really hit until this year. I don't know why. I think it's because one of my friends that I game with, who is not a pay-to-play and just logs in to game with me, wanted a polar bear mount for his Nord and was like, "so the only way to get a bear at all is to buy it?" And that's when it really set in that, okay....maybe a variant, like the polar bear or that raccoon-style bear is in the crown store (but even that's pushing it), but why can't we even get a brown bear as a reward in-game?
It seems like every MMO has their stages. After WotLK, WoW took a huge dive after Cataclysm came out. I don't know, I feel like ESO will weather this and there will be a proverbial changing of the guard as old players leave and new ones come in.

  • @merpins

It's important to remember that as fun as games like ESO, ffxiv, wow, Warframe, BDO, RuneScape, etc etc are, they are kind of just digital addictions. And they are fucking appealing.
This was like watching someone make the decision to finally stop drugs or alcohol after years of addiction.
I recently stopped as well and I do miss it but I feel better.
The most appealing games to me have been the time sink never ending style games like I listed above. I spent hundreds of hours in ESO, ffxiv, wow, Warframe and others. I had alot of fun but part of me regrets it.
Single player games early on left a bad taste for me because I was sad when it ended. That was it, it was done.
Then wow hit and there was an end to the story, but not the game but then it was a live service so expansions.
These games are MADE to be addictive. Maybe they weren't at first with osrs and vanilla wow, but then corps figured out how easy it is to manipulate people to spend obcene hours and program then to log in every single day to do chores.
Watching my friend grind chores on lost ark every day is like watching someone drink themselves to death. They just can't stop.
Im not shitting on people who like these games, but it's important to realize how thin the line is between fun gaming experience and addiction

At the time I left ESO, I enjoyed success in both PvE and PvP. I had all of the PvE content on farm, played with most of the best players PC-NA had to offer up to then, and had every "meaningful achievement" (including in PvP such as Cyrodiil Emperor before it was a simple matter of just "Emp Trading" in a dead campaign). Now, I know that's not the same thing as outright deleting the account. But, I do agree with most of his assessment of the development of the game over time. It's better than watching some other styles of reaction because at least the person reacting HAS the knowledge

16:07 it's their choice, and ZoS decisions to cause it. We are not sad that the devs are crushing the game.

I am thinking this is the same guy that does this in many games, he attains all and then is not having fun anymore! Many play so much in the years past they are obsessed, and then when they get to that " whale" level, everything's so suddenly easy for them, they get bored. BAh! It's just a rage quit and it's been happening for years, he just went to extremes by deleting and documenting it all for everyone to see. What's sad to me is how influencing and damaging it is. I would NEVER base my opinion of in game experience off of just one other person's experience or just raiding in general. All MMOs have unique issues, growing pains and struggles, there is no way to please all. Hopefully ESO can survive " the beatings will continue until moral improves"....phase.
