:'( RIP Dieter I was never really into Shane, but I met Dieter many many years later through a friend & he was the nicest guy!!!!! Incredibly genuine. Loved heights & animals, whether it was hanging off Sydney skyscrapers or climbing a tree to say hello to a lizard or spending half a party outside feeding & caring for the neighbourhood stray cats, he was just the most genuine, caring guy anyone could meet (and when he was inside the party with other humans he was awesome too, he didn't withdraw cause he couldn't fit in or anything, he was just connected to everything going on around him in the world, VERY different to what I would have expected given his H&A character, really amazing, genuine person, this is a real loss to the world :'(
@@anlace3447 kinda, kinda not, sort of came across as he knew what he had to do to get through each day, knew where to find what he needed to live in the moment so as to block out the rest, but I guess it's not possible to do that always or foreever :'( He seriously had the most amazing connection with wild & abused animals that most people couldn't get near, he could just connect with them at some deep level, they just seemed to "get" each other & trust each other in a way that's really not possible to put into words, just on the same wavelenght in some way, both sides seemed to be able to escape the world just by being in each other's presence
Back around 1996 I was on my P's & putting fuel in my car at the Shell Servo in the Lane Cove area, Dieter pulled up next to me in his red Honda Civic, I had to do a double take, Wow TV Star! we exchanged eye contact & I said "Hi Mate, How You Doing?" he walked over to me & held out his hand & we shook hands, he said "I'm good how are you?" so polite just a normal dude yet He was a TV Star yet at the same time a totally down to earth bloke. As any kid growing up in the 1990's knew Dieter & Melissa were (like Jason & Kylie before them) the biggest thing on youth TV. Honestly I wasn't a huge fan although didn't mind the show. Hearing this today terribly saddens me. I'll never forget that & I pray he's found peace. Lets all be kind to one another, thank you for the memories Dieter.

I came across Paula Duncan at BP Willoughby at the next pump and she gave me a smile when we briefly made eye contact. Wish I said hi, but wanted to leave her alone. She probably would have been receptive. I did talk to Linda Stoner when I came across her and said I know you to which she replies I know you too! Lovely person and she was an animal activist.

That's Epping Road, Lane Cove West just before Mowbray Road West to the right. Wow, I used that a lot. I would have been driving the yellow beast, a 1978 CL Valiant on LPG. The cheapest I ever saw LPG was 19.9c a litre about that time at BP Lane Cove, the servo before it on the same main road. Wow, I miss that place. Apartment towers now.

I found that extraordinary in the 80s where most four cylinder cars had drums on the rear. I'm driving an 89 Ford Meteor sedan. It has rear disc brakes as it's the Ghia model with EFI, so somewhat future proofed at the time. Surprisingly modern feeling for a car essentially dating from 1985 technology wise. Newest car I ever had was a 95 Toyota Lexcen -equivalent to a VS Commodore, until I crashed it. Not long after, I came across the Meteor for sale and have had it for 11 years now as it has been reliable and I still like driving it, four speed automatic and all.
Dieter had some Hoges vibes here; never watched the show but you couldn't avoid the guy if you lived in the mid-90s. Shocked to hear the news, seemed like a natural, likable but complex kind of guy. RIP mate.

Thanks to Dieter and Melissa for making my childhood more magical. I loved watching them every day almost. Makes more sense now that Dieter was doing an extreme sport in order to fix up buildings, rather than the simple window cleaner comment the press love to run with. Sounds like he was living his passion. Also good to hear Melissa so complimentary about Angel and Home & Away after that journalist tried to get a "scoop" by printing some fly away comments after she'd been poked and prodded about Angel for several hours.

Sometimes we are our own worst critic because I watched back some episodes and found his acting to be natural and very good. His diversity in underbelly should have propelled him back into the spotlight as he was brilliant in that. Yes I recognised him from Home and Away but that went away very quickly as his acting as corrupt Detective Trevor Haken engrossed me and Home and Away wasn’t even a second thought. Rest In Peace Dieter you were successful in more ways than one.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching him clean windows on a building I worked in many years ago. I applaud his normality in life and not allowing his characters fame to take over his life. It’s great to see him so well grounded.

Rip i use to watch home and away he was good looking. I was saying to a friend as ive had depression this is what depression is like. Sometimes you feel tablets are just masking it. In a way i think with depression your just aware of life n problems in the world etc. Im 41 now in 20s i felt i could bounce back easier after depression but each time you feel more damaged experiences etc. I dont think its just the person suffering from depression either. In a way there the strong person there just reacting to problems eg news depressing them etc. If more people aware of depression the better got to think positive aswell.
So sad that dieter has passed away. I saw dieter in Sydney. I did a course that was near the channel 7 studio. He was leaving, going to his car. I recognized him straight away. No I wasn’t a crazed fan and approached him, but I was happy that I seen dieter

When being a child actor you miss out on a lot of everyday normal things instead of reading your lines and long hours on set to do a few scenes . sometimes you have to step back and he did that and got his life back doing what he wanted to do.

I first thought about Shane's death when I heard about dieters real life passing. I remember being sad when shane died in home and away as he had so many accidents before it like his motorcycle accident and later he was attacked by a fee guys if I remember correctly. I havent seen those episodes since they aired around 1995

I used to watch it religiously. he died of septicemia from a cut he got while grabbing a rusty fence with Travis, a little while after the bike accident he had. In a way i think with depression your just aware of life n problems in the world etc. Im 41 now in 20s i felt i could bounce back easier after depression but each time you feel more damaged experiences etc. I dont think its just the person suffering from depression either. In a way there the strong person there just reacting to problems eg news depressing them etc. If more people aware of depression the better got to think positive aswell.

So sad that dieter has passed away. I saw dieter in Sydney. I did a course that was near the channel 7 studio. He was leaving, going to his car. I recognized him straight away. No I wasn’t a crazed fan and approached him, but I was happy that I seen dieter
My god i has no idea he died , im shocked and beyond crashed he was so handsome but above all you can see he was beautiful inside too and humble ,so sad he had depression and then lock down came and so many cannot see away out, RIP too young to soon

When being a child actor you miss out on a lot of everyday normal things instead of reading your lines and long hours on set to do a few scenes . sometimes you have to step back and he did that and got his life back doing what he wanted to do.
As a kid growing up in Ireland in the mod 90s shane and angel were the poster couple of tv. My sister had dieter brummer posters on her bedroom wall amongst other stars lol.
I first thought about Shane's death when I heard about dieters real life passing. I remember being sad when shane died in home and away as he had so many accidents before it like his motorcycle accident and later he was attacked by a fee guys if I remember correctly. I havent seen those episodes since they aired around 1995

I used to watch it religiously. he died of septicemia from a cut he got while grabbing a rusty fence with Travis, a little while after the bike accident he had. Trust me i remember that show and all the mid 90s episodes like they were filmed yesterday and i haven't even seen them since 1995/96
