if "majong" wanted us to craft the ax on the left side, then they wound not hav made it craftable on the right side. i make my axes on the right cuz its faster (due to it being closer to where i hotkey it into my 3rd hotbar slot). i always have my hotbar in this order from left to right( w/ their hotkeys): pickaxe(1), sword(2), ax(3), shovel(4), bow(5), food(C), water bucket(V), blocks(B), torches(G). i know one of the default control settings is already on key C, so i changed that to Z. i find it easier to quickly switch to any hotbar slot rather than scrolling back and forth.

"Pick, shovel, axe, sword" actually makes sense. Since Minecraft is primarily a collecting and building game, your collecting and building tools should be prioritized, and in the order you're gonna use them more, which is pick (when mining), shovel (both for mining and building), axe (for collecting wood and building). The sword is an avoidable thing because you can always sleep or light up any place, you would mostly need it for food and you can just make a farm and kill a bunch of animals on a single sit.

@@ーテイル yes 2 is right above w but that's why it's harder to get to, usually you're either walking forward or backwards so you can't use your middle finger to press 2 most of the time, and since youre usually pressing w, that finger also gets in the way of your ring and index fingers if you try to use those instead. D key is perfectly between 3 and 4 so 4 is very comfortable to press with my index finger

I’ve actually always done it like this. Not pound for pound as you see it on the screen exactly, but I always put the pickaxe first, or as I like to call it “Fortnite” style. The reason being is it’s actually very useful for mining. You use your shovel and pick a lot, but you don’t actually use your sword that often in comparison, only when you run into monsters. It’s just the most efficient way for mining in my experience, and it looks like the book thought so too. This was very validating.
on page 15 of the beginners handbook it shows one stone pick and one wooden pick right next to each other along with one stone sword and one wooden sword also together so maybe thats the correct way to have things no need for axes or shovels or hoes.
