  • If you have ever wondered what goes on inside that light switch or the ceiling rose then this video will explain all about how the circuit works and how to install a lighting circuits correctly.
    Following the methods approved in the IET Electricians Guide to the Building Regulations, we discuss types of switches, how they work and the connections to make in the switch and at the ceiling rose.
    We describe the three plate method with plenty of diagrams and discussion so that nothing is left to guess work or chance.
    This video will be useful to existing electricians, new electricians, apprentices and others learning the trade.
    Remember that electricity is dangerous and if in doubt, stop, and consult a competent electrician.
    Always lock off and safely isolate circuits, if appropriate, before commencing work.

      I'm more confused to my lighting circuit at my home. I didn't wire it and have never come across the way it is wired anywhere else. A permanent live feed conductor and CPC to the switch and neutral to the ceiling rose and switch wire upto the ceiling rose. Not something I was ever taught and never found in any text books but great for down lights.

      There are several methods in use, some going back 50 years or more. We have shown the method in the current Building Regulations.
      Thanks for watching.

    Hi mate great video thanks for helping me understand it much more, but can you explain this for me please.
    For example, how would you get say all the downstairs lights onto the same circuit? Like say the living room, the kitchen, dining room etc?

    • @learnelectrics4402
      @learnelectrics4402  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Alex. You would need to find the route of the cables and rejig the wiring so they are all on one breaker. Alternatively, start again and rewire them all.
      Have a look at this video, TRACING SOCKET CIRCUITS, click on the link below
      th-cam.com/video/r1qyBAAwzmg/w-d-xo.html
      It is about sockets, but the same route tracing applies to lighting.
      Good luck. Dave.

    What about when there is no ceiling rose? Like installing a led flourescent tube with Live, Neutral & Earth connections?

    • @learnelectrics4402
      @learnelectrics4402  ปีที่แล้ว

      We use the terminal block inside the fitting. If its only a three way terminal strip then use a waygo or another terminal block to make the extra way that you need. Or some other adaptor box that gives the terminals protection from being touched if it is inside the ceiling space. Thanks for watching. Dave.

    I have a question. Why does it important to connect live wire to pin in screw bulb? It does not matter from working point of view. Is it just to keep it further away from the hands while changing bulb?
