184 - Sabotage! As Someone Deliberately Drains The Canal | Kings Sutton to Somerton - Oxford Canal

- Today me and mum get a knock at the window at 8pm, to our surprise it was a man who said "someone had left all 4 paddles open" as we were very close to the locks we headed down there with windlass in hand. We couldn't believe this happened again and the next day when we head through the lock, we meet some narrowboaters coming up, who tells us some, interesting information about the man who had been doing it. On This cruise, we head through more miles of stunning landscapes, we even go on the River Cherwell, go through a stunning section that almost reminds me of the moors of Exmoor and go down a gigantic 12ft lock to Somerton.

I stay at somerton in my campervan regularly. Its a lovely stretch of canal.
Lovely cruise again along the Oxford canal. Hope the CRT caught up with that lazy boater who left the paddles up. Looks like you've got an escape artist in Ash.

Glad you discovered who the lock sabotage culprit is. It's a bit stressful navigating a drained pound; and it can cause flooding further down the cut too. Well done for acting so promptly to save the situation at Kings Sutton Lock. I like that section of canal and where you cross the River Cherwell at Aynho Weir Lock
Lucky the guy told us Adrian as this situation would have been a lot different when we woke up. Take care xxx

I watch several vlogs and I've often wondered why some get more subscribers than others and I've concluded that its mostly if the viewers like the presenter(s) - if they are "clicking" with their personality. Examples for me: the Boat Time couple are positive and fun no matter what they are doing; Will has a lot of variety - not just cruising footage; the Holly couple are personable (& now have an added attraction of their baby!). I found though that some folks who are new to vlogging are usually stiff or robotic until they get used to it and some folks who I've watched a long time are getting stale - like they've given up or can't be bothered to keep interesting. I think your strengths are beautiful cruising footage, Josh does a nice job of telling the history of places, Andy's cooking ones are enjoyable because he keeps them simple and explains them well and the talk/banter between you all (although Joss seems to be in a perpetual bad mood but maybe it just comes across that way). Anyway, good luck. I'll keep watching!
Thank you Susan for the comment I agree with you, I couldn't figure it out either, but the only thing I could think of was that it must be me. I'm miserable. I wish I wasn't, bit it boils down to my social anxiety, depression and lack of self confidence, I really am trying to be better, but even though I'm living the dream I can still be depressed 😔 I'm really gonna try hard now because if I don't then the channel will die.
@@TaylorsAboardaNarrowboat You have a real challenge and I am rooting for you. I have a granddaughter with the same issues even though she has everything going for her -but there is no magic wand that will make them go away overnight. From what I see you too have a lot going for you - its obvious that you work very hard at your channel and are committed to it, you have supportive and loving parents (that comes through in spades) and you are willing to explore new ideas. Your idea of exploring villages you go by is an excellent one. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do.
@@susansisk455 thanks that's a lovely thing to say Susan. The trouble is we aren't all the same. I am very outgoing and confident talking to people. Josh doesn't take after me but it's very weird because I was very shy when I was at school but once I started work I came out of my shell.

Great vlog again, nice to see more of the Oxford, we had to turn back at Aynho so haven't seen the canal South of there.
It's a wonderful canal and the scenery is beautiful open fields mostly.
Guessing the person who rousted you up was not a boater…or would have had a windlass and closed the paddles? Good of him to alert you. I was surprised at how fast Josh closed that one…. Looks like kittens got their first adventure outside….so glad they were right there.

l saw this happen a week or so ago on the Kennet and Avon a hire boater leaving paddles open as they started the caen hill flight open weather its pure lazy or poor training, love the oxford canal which l travelled on my NB thanks for your vlogs
The Oxford canal was beautiful and the towpath quiet for the cats which is great.

I have told Josh to be more happy. He does try bless him but the social anxiety kicks in sometimes.

SHAME THEY REMOVED THE OLD RAILWAY BRIDGE AS THEY MAKE GREAT WALKS OR CYCLE PATHS....
We have walked on a few old railway lines and really enjoyed it.
