    Welcome to my latest video for my channel, @KhonKaenDen. In this video, I was a little shocked when I lost about 70% of my hearing over the past week and required a hospital visit to try and remedy it. I wasn't allowed to film inside but I find out how much it can cost just to have your ears syringed at a private hospital in Khon Kaen. Beau and I also visit a really tasty Vietnamese restaurant in Khon Kaen known as Hue Vietnam Restaurant. Don't forget, if you like my videos hit the thumbs up, subscribe and comment! Hope you enjoy. Den.

      Hi, John. To be honest, I am now at about 95% hearing (just not... quite... right). But need to keep using the ear wax oil?!? this week and should clear it. I was shocked about how much wax they pulled out... my right ear had become 100% blocked and it was scary when I could hear again. It took over 3 hours of poking, hooking, sucking and whatever else they had to get it all with intermittent stays on a hospital bed letting the liquid stuff soften everything. Just a little left too close to the ear drum (that is the bit I need to work on this week). Anyway, hope I can clear the rest this week. Cheers, Den.

    In the US the copay for a hospital visit with insurance would be as much or more than your treatment cost. Glad you were able to get it taken care of relatively cheaply and easily.

      Wow. I am surprised at how expensive it can be in the US (compared to free in the UK). Having said that, yeah, 2,000 ish baht... about $50 isn't too bad really. Probably about two years of build up in my right ear especially! Thanks again, Den.

    Go in any regular Thai barber shop & they de wax your ears for about 50 THB. I had mine done a few times including once when they were packed full of wax like yours & the barbers done a great job cleaning them.

Just don´t like the look of that slimy sauce they put ( same rat na ) but the taste was alright. The springrolls were to hard for me but my wife finished 10 of them in no time. The icetea is yummy and the sandwhich with pork sausage too. I definitely go back there but check the baan heng first. Thanks for the VDO to let me find new places around town.

    Hi Den sorry to know about your hearing, I hate getting old myself but thank Buddha since I lost all my weight, only issue for me was a slight cold in January and a bite from a soi dog in 2yrs. Hope you are feeling better and was surprised by how much you paid. I believe having worked and had many family members working in the NHS I feel they cannot compete with service in Thailand even from a govt hospital. I can recommend Danish NHS as well great service . The food you had in that Vietnam resultant looked amazing be on the look out for Vietnam res from now on. Very interesting Den. My hearing was as bad as yours until I had it sorted last spring.
    The NHS still carry out ear syringing ( vacuum pump nowadays.) It takes a month to get an appointment slot. You use that month to put warm olive oil in every night to soften the wax…
    It took two goes a month apart: you may not be done yet…private cost in UK is £50 so same as the Bangkok Hospital.

    Hey, Dennis, I know you are on a tight budget for now and I wanted to share how to take care of wax build up without hospital visit because I have problem too. Baby oil drops in the ear (lay down and let it work for 30 minutes for each ear). Then take water bulb filled with water and squirt into each ear. All of the oil softens the wax and then the water jet flushes things out. Careful because sometimes things start to spin when the wax starts coming out.

    Things have changed in the government hospitals. Udon Thani & Khon Kaen General government hospitals now have Foreign Customer Service Offices we’re they have people who can talk English & a few other languages. In KK they can also speak Chinese & Khmer. They also have agreements with a lot of Thai Insurance Companies that they bill direct. @@KhonKaenDen I spoke to the girls in the Udon office. They told me the first one was Vachira Government Hospital in Phuket City & this was the model the others used. They have them were they have a lot of Expats. Which is Phuket, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Chiang Mai, Hau Hin & there is one in either Pattaya or Chonburi. Each hospital does it’s own agreements with insurance companies & Udon has agreement with 29 companies including Pacific Cross & WR Life. WR Life are pretty new & offer very good deals but on the forums some say they are probably a Broker who could just disappear into thin air one day. The girls in the Udon office told me they find them easy to deal with so I suppose you have to make up your own mind on them. I used both Private & government hospitals in the past & found the medical service I got from the government hospital to be excellent but the food was awful & the room about 1 star. As a rule of thumb I found the cost to be about a third of what a standard private hospital would charge.
      You also got Queen Siriket Heart Center on KK which a government hospital with a great reputation & the heart center for all Isaan (Cancer Hospital is in Udon Thani). If you look on ASEANOW forum one guy said he had a quadruple bypass & was in QS for 23 days in 2017 & the total bill was 369,000 THB. Another guy said he had 2 heart stents put in at QS in February this year & his total bill was 236,000 THB. The thing with heart stents is the stents themselves are imported & expensive & even in a government hospital you paying around 90,000 THB per stent.

    This should take you to a good article that has a link to all the Thai government charges set in 2019. The article has a link to a pdf file that lists all the treatments & procedures in English but the prices are given in Thai script. The prices are what a Thai would or ASEAN National would pay & as you know if your working legally paying social security you pay 50% more for low cost stuff like blood tests & 25% more for more expensive stuff like an MRI & those numbers are 100% & 50% for an Expat retiree. As an example the guy in my other comment who paid 369,000 THB in total for a quadruple heart by pass gave the break down & it was 264,000 THB for the actual quadruple bypass. The pdf gives the cost of a CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft) as 44,500 THB so x’s that by 4 for quadruple & 1.5 for the 50% extra & that comes out at 267,000 THB. DUAL PRICING NOW LEGAL FOR FOREIGNERS IN THAI PUBLIC HOSPITALS COCONUTS.

      @KhonKaenDen  ปีที่แล้ว

      Brilliant. Thanks so much for this. Very, very interesting indeed. Amazing how much they charge compared to the real prices. Quite amazing, really. It should be illegal to charge so much extra and this is one of those "dual pricing" areas so often overlooked as it kind of remains hidden, unlike national parks etc. that just states it on a large board as you enter. Thanks again for sharing this. Cheers, Den.

    • @isaanman5399
      @isaanman5399 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@KhonKaenDen There’s nothing hidden about it & it was all over the media when the Dutch guy made a court case. I got no objection to the dual charging in what is paid for from taxes. Those prices for Thai’s & ASEAN Nationals are the standard pretty much non profit rates. Some people say we shouldn’t use Public healthcare as it is for Thai’s but if we are paying above the standard rates then we are adding money to the coffers for treating Thai Nationals & that blows that argument out of the water. In the UK if your not entitled to no charge at point of use access to the NHS then A&E including life saving treatment & GP visits are at no charge but anything else is charged at 150% the standard pretty much non profit rate. 31% of Thailand is the size of England +25% & that is what covers National Parks, National Forest, Animal Sanctuaries & No Hunting areas. I looked it up & before the Pandemic & roughly it costs around 11 Billion THB a year to maintain & manage it all & they take around 2 Billion in gate money with the other 9 Billion coming mostly from General taxation & so I don’t mind pay 5 times as much as a Thai. Now what would be a game changer for me is if they go ahead with this taxation of monies we bring in from overseas. If they do that then I think we should have access to what taxes pay for at least the same as an ASEAN National but if they do this, keep the dual charging & impose a health insurance requirement as a visa requirement then we’re is the justification. If we are non tax payers then dual charge but if we are tax payers then we should have access to the benefits those taxes pay for & that includes the Tax Funded Universal Healthcare System.

    • @isaanman5399
      @isaanman5399 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KhonKaenDen Here is an interesting fact & you can look it up for yourself online. Thailand’s Private hospitals get 35% of their revenue from sales of medicines & pharmaceuticals. I got heart stents & went for a check up at Wattana private hospital in Udon Thani & they charged me 10,000 for the checks & tests & 22,000 for 3 months meds. The next check up I went to Queen Siriket in Khon Kaen & they charged me 3,000 for the checks & tests & 6,000 for 3 months meds. So even with the dual pricing the Public Hospitals are a lot cheaper & the meds were a lot cheaper & cheaper than the high street pharmacy were I pay about 7,000 for the same.

That went down like a lead balloon & on 30th December 2021 they announced a complete U-Turn & said they would not think of imposing it for at least 5 years. Philippines has a territorial tax only for Expats so only money generated on the Philippines is taxed & any money brought in is not taxed. Cambodia actually have rules that state money brought in including pensions is liable for Cambodian tax & they only have 7 Doubled tax agreements & none of them are with western Countries but they don’t tax any money Expats bring on & I wonder if they got the mechanism or will to do it as they are probably happy to get the foreign currency especially as they use the $. I think it is pretty obvious this tax grab was to pay for the 10,000 THB digital wallets but that has already been kicked down the road till September & being rolled back & a lot are against including the BOT. They said they would announce clarifications & we are still waiting & the PM stated recently it needs more study but it’s only 8 weeks away from implementation. Another thing is have they even allocated the resources to assess & collect this tax. So I think it is a matter of watch this space from now until the end of the year.
