  • (NOTE) I apologise for the audible breathing in some sections of the video, I'm wearing a heavy-duty respirator. I appreciate all the help in the comments :)
    This item was a high school woodworking project that had been left outside in a shed for over 30 years. My client wanted me to try and restore it to what it had originally looked like when it was first made. He requested no stain and the removal of the water-damaged layers. I couldn't remove all of the sun and water damage but I manage to restore most of its original lustre.
    Thanks for watching. Please let me know what you think or if you have any questions. I'm always happy to respond.

    This is so sweet! It is almost exactly the same design as a little seat made for me (and another for my twin sister) by my beloved uncle in Sydney, in the early 70s. The only difference really is that instead of solid panels, my seat has slats, and the whole thing is brighly painted. It can be either a step, or a chair.

      I had one like you've described. On the first step was painted "stand up to be tall". When it was a chair, the seat back said "sit down to be small".

      Make a filtering fan - buy a furnace filter and put on the back of a box fan/install a extractor fan, I assume you had the shutter/door open as we could [more pleasantly] hear birds singing, traffic and a smoke alarm in the back ground = adequately ventilating the workshop. Still we appreciate the original audio recording, in comparison to more “dumber” channels that put music on the audio track so we can’t hear what they are doing/think we don’t want to hear it

    Thank you for this beautiful restoration. I have two questions about this piece. Is this a step stool as well as a child's seat? Is the beautiful patina in the wood caused by the age of the piece and also because it was cut from very old trees?

    • @ejwoodhouserestorations2796
      @ejwoodhouserestorations2796  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not a problem Zoe, I appreciate your watch and comment. Yes, it functions as both a step stool / little table with chair, and a dedicated chair. Yes the sun and water damage actually added to the patina, it was quite surprising and looks really beautiful. The wood is quite common here in Australia. I believe it would have been from a recently cut tree at the time it was made. Cheers 👍🙂

      @zoe1972 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ejwoodhouserestorations2796 I don't think I phrased my last question very well. I understand that a lot of the older, antique furniture was made from mature, very old, trees.
