  • Yi Jin Jing - I Chin Ching - "Muscle Tendon Change" Qigong. Of all the fighting systems of Martial Arts that Chinese Kung Fu has, the Yi Jin Jing or I Chin Ching are my favorite. I practice Yi Jing Jing everyday! It is my #1 method of staying flexible, healthy, strong, and injury free! It's also an amazing form of relaxation and meditation. Long live Chinese hard Qigong!
    In Chinese it is written: 易筋经
    In Pinyin it is pronounced: Yì Jīn Jīng
    The "Old School" of Kung Fu spells it: I Chin Ching
    In English it is translated: Classical Muscle/Tendon Change
    It is said that Tamo or Bodhidharma taught the original Yijin Jing Postures to the Shaolin Monks in the 6th Century!

    I am an active 66-year-old who does some ta'i chi, swims and weightlifting. I am housebound for two weeks now with a bad viral rash and a dog that had an operation. I normally go crazy without exercises, and your exercises have made me feel calm and amazingly strong. Thank you.

    Thank you, Jake for a great short form Yi Jin Ching. I have been doing the traditional long form, 22 postures for a long time right after my internal Nei Kung Chi practices, but this short form is a great substitute for anytime I need a quick pick up during the day, traveling or when life gets in the way and I only have a short amount of time.

    My teacher showed me an "isometric tension" version (very similar to this one) of the Muscle Tendon Change 30 years ago, and I still have the written instructions...but it's really nice to have a live video demo of it for inspiration. Thanks for sharing this!

      James Boelter, Is it possible to have a copy in PDF form of your instructions emailed to me? Or maybe would you consider scanning it & sharing it. Or do you have a clip of it up on youtube anywhere? I do many traditional exercises that are isometric or dynamic tension in nature (such as Stone Warrior & others) & I'm always interested in learning other forms.

    • @JDBoelter
      @JDBoelter 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Forgot to mention - you can find both the fist set and the palm set in Jwing-Ming Yang's Yang's book "QiGong: Health and Martial Arts". Good basic photography on both sets makes it pretty clear what you should be doing. Plus the actual instructions. Much better than anything I could scan. But if you like, I will see what I can do.

      i found out one thing is bodhidharma teach the monks these *exerises* to keep them fit *not martial arts or kalaripayattu* then they *invited the warriors of china to teach them how to defend themselves* by combining bodhidharma;s exerises with the chinese exerises such the dao yin(taoism yoga but did not came from india but develop by chinese taoist priest but also *before shaolin came*) and the five animals play(develop by a chinese doctor hua tuo during the three kingdoms *before shaolin came*) with the warrior's fighting art then a few years later the *chinese monks has finally fully develop chinese kung fu like the kung fu today but the moral story is the breathing exerises belong to bodhidharma and the martial arts belong to the chinese monks*

    energy movement circles in and around body is for me more fundamental than exercises outside it's like driving with car without knowing rules and no destination Even Modern quantum physics laws have idea that minds have to have clear coals. One tips if you don't know how have to be energy move in and around, visualize what benefit you wish and that you have already keep in mind Like secret words I Am that I Am. I like your Yi Jin Jing version and your channel. I think that Taoist Qi Gong comprehend every movement from stillness to movement but for a beginner it is important start from the stillness to start to perceive the Qi movement in the body.
    I see many tutorial with movement but I think that if people start moving the body will never be able to feel the Qi and move it in the body... What you think about it?
    I really thank you for your work, it very important that people share this important knowledge, but it seems that the most are passing to the advanced level without the suffering of the first level. It is very difficult found people that want to train in stillness, but we all knows that we must to find the movement in the stillness.
    Thanks Jake, it is a pleasure 😉

      Yes. Practice Yi Jin Jing Daily, Eat an ABUNDANCE of Fruit and Veg (Especially Dark Leafy Greens), and do NOT eat any dairy products!
      Practice your side kicks A LOT but also give rest time in between training sessions! Try doing this video with me THEN kick for 30 minutes afterward: th-cam.com/video/OwmaB5hO_-w/w-d-xo.html
      Then, do this workout twice a week minimum: th-cam.com/video/Uuz0SwU6rPI/w-d-xo.html

    Is this a version different than those practiced by the Shaolin Temple and Chinese Health Qigong Association? The first couple of postures look more like dynamic tension training found in styles such as Hung Gar.

    • @RealKungFu
      @RealKungFu  9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      This is Martial Qigong. Developed by Yogi Masters, brought to China by Tamo, made famous by the Shaolin Monks of ancient days and General Yue Fei! The Shaolin Temple and Modern Shaolin Monks TODAY practice and perform Wushu and Wushu based Qigong. Wushu Qigong is more done for a performance and done for the audiences benefit! The kind of Qigong and Yi Jin Jing I practice is traditional and is done to improve the Self!

  • @cleanness
    @cleanness 9 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    I have to say, I don't believe this is the yi jin jing as it is practiced at Shaolin temple. To me, the version that leaves out the isometrics gets its workout aspect from the yoga-like nature of the postures. You really have to search for a longer version of it to see how that works. It kind of fits together as an Indian-derived set of exercises that get the joints and tendons loosened up supplemented with some ideas about qi flow from the Chinese tradition. When practiced with mindfulness about the body's points of tension, it feels almost as if you are stretching inside a tight set of clothes-loosening up the muscles. My only difficulty with adding isometrics is that it may detract from the idea of energy flow: contracting muscles doesn't allow energy to flow. If it works as a workout that's great; but, I think its good to be aware of pluses and minuses.

    • @cleanness
      @cleanness 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +taijiguy That is a subject for debate. The Shaolin crowd believes that the exercises go back to Bodhidarma. The way the chi flows is by loosening up the tendons and doing exercises to tap the meridians.

    • @cleanness
      @cleanness 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +taijiguy What is Yangshi?

    • @johnmaletic898
      @johnmaletic898 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This isn't yi jin jing at all. If you do your research, you'll find the relation Da Mo/Ji jin jing/Xi Sui Jing to be just a popular fiction. Ji jin jing is of a far later date and is heavily influenced by Daoyin practice. These exercises are older and are known as Shi Er Da Jin Fa. And unlike what the dude in the video is mumbling about, there is no muscle tension involved whatsoever. Much like Zhan Zhuang, the exercise is about Yi, intention. If you do it like in the video, you won't be able to reap the true benefits of the exercise at all. The exercise is best practised with knees slightly bent, straightening the back a little and the "tension" is done, not by muscle, but as a breath "bellows" push movement. During inhalation, focus is on the core ( dantian if you like) and the breath during exhalation moves up the spine towards the fists nurtering tendons and muscles along its path. Same principle goes for the open palm form. Slight tensing of the fists serves as the focus or end point of the breath. Most certainly not like what is shown here. Adding a few stretches and/or asanas and you're good to go. Don't tense. This type of tensing serves no purpose whatsoever in da jin fa. If you do it right, strength and flexibility will come naturally. Whereas tensing will simply block natural flow through the meredians. Unfortunately, there's little literature on this daoist exercise, but, for sure, it ain't Ji jin jing at all. It's shi er da jin fa and is also known as the pictures of a stationary exercise. Practised long before the first shaolin monastery.

      @@LifeofRip O well. Internet's loaded with crap like this. They're all the same you know, the types like this. Children in a candy store, drewling from one box to another claiming this and that. Bruce lee wannabees or the groupies from the yoga factory taking up bandwidth. In this case it's partially the chinese themselves you know. They like their heroes and if you were to believe them, dudes like general Yueh Fei invented a shitload of stuff like Hsing I, baduanjin and what not. Wang Xiang Zhai invented zhan zhuang and all that bollocks. Fact is it was around long before. It just wasn't pr'ed as good.Anywhooo..point is, pick something and practice well, in a proper manner. It doesn't matter if it's si duan gong or the five tibetans. Just practice correctly. And um..do research and be quiet about it. It's no use anyway. Tell any yoga groupie asjtanga is quite modern and they'll yell blasphemy. It's a fact though. No "I'm looking for a better me" idiot wants to hear that his precious mind altering and devine practice started ( and still is) out as a means for battlefield conditioning or wrestling. You get the point. The most important exercise is meditation. It's literally what asana means in sanskrit, to sit. The rest is like a desktop operating system in a way. This is not yijin jing. I’ve seen so many versions of yijin jing and all of them were more than just squeezing really hard and trying to give yourself an aneurism. Just because you are flexible and in shape doesn’t mean you are a master of every martial art Jace Fake.

    How can this and this Shaolin 12-part internal kung fu (yi jin jing) th-cam.com/video/kR0Ju98Jv-0/w-d-xo.html be (yi jin jing) ?

  • @Doccamtanphong

    definitely not original Yi Jin Jing, there is many versions available. some are easy , some are hard. i am learning from shaolin warrior monk, it does not like any thing you see on you tube, when you see Shaolin Monk perform on you tube, it is an easy version that they make up just for performance. the original is kept secret and practice at school only. i really like your bo staff training alots, that is the very best one i ever see, i am learning from your clip a lot, i wish i can do just 50% like you. keep it up Jake Mace

      This is true. Exactly what I was looking for. Real knowledge about energies are always kept as a secret and only the initiated ones under a guru gets access to them.

    The current chief abbot of shaolin has approved one shaolin temple outside of China . It is ran in New York by the Honorable Shi Goulin, the senior most brother and student of the venerable chief abbot of shoalin in China is Shi goulin and he is the world's foremost authority on chi gong per the shoalin temple. that is the lineage of my chi gong. this is not chi gong. not a single movement is out of the yi jin jing set. not a single breathing technique here is correct. people like Jake mace are dangerous only because u guys give him credence. It mutilates history and the practice of life altering chi gong when this type of made up crap is circulated.
