I know that this content is a bit aged however, I’ve carried this (and others) for a few years now & can say that your concerns are mostly unwarranted. While I will agree that it takes a touch of practice to grip it during deployment, the other concerns are a non-issue IMO. Listen, I’ve been carrying autos for many years including being issued a few while active duty. It’s a very nice gentleman style auto that is crafted with superior quality.
Hey everyone has a opinion I think it's a Good looking knife in fact I just ordered it to add to the automatics . I think saying Fatal Flaw is abit dramatic and should be used when talking about a true failure like a light spine whack but this is why we have TH-cam so we can discuss such matters . Have a Great day Everyone .
Clip doesn’t seem like it would be much of an issue but that edge being so close to that opening in the spine of the handle in the closed position does seem like it could potentially cause problems.
I have 13 Protech knives, and unfortunately this is my least favorite. I noticed the edge as was described being close to the opening, but I found a "fatal flaw" on mine. On the tip up side the blade can swing out very slightly. I reached into my pocket and the point gave me a half inch cut down my finger. This thing just because a $220.00 letter opener. I will not carry it again. Also the way the button is designed, it's more difficult to depress than any other Protech I have. Will probably sell it trade it in.
This knife was designed purely for aesthetic, not practical whatsoever. Dumb knife. Nothing about it feels secure or stable. Was going to see if there was some aftermarket scales to redo the knife entirely but not seeing anything. Oh well.
Don’t like either of them - sorry. They look to be very uncomfortable in the hand when in constant use but I suppose that depends on how many zombies you have to kill! Give me a Sodbuster any day of the week - a knife for real work.
There's a little rounding and the handles are about the same thickness as a sodbuster, but you can't beat the ergonomics of a traditional Slipjoint handle.
I think for the slight difference from a modern flipper knife an auto is not worth the extra cost. I have some and once the newness wears off from carrying one, I lost interest in the extra cost. OTF knives are a better choice if I want or need and auto opening knife.
Just my opinion but OTFs are most definitely NOT the better choice in an auto. Doesn't take much at all to funk up an otf to prevent it from firing. Pocket lint, a little dirt finds it's way down there and youre fucked. At least these are serviceable and you dont have to be a rocket scientist to do it. OTFs are great dont get me wrong! I have 4 microtechs but unless they are kept clean and lubricated they fail.

The button placement and activation was my problem as well, but it's Burnley, it's kwaiky, it's Pro Tech (and I collect Boker) so I kept mine.
I REALLY went back and forth but decided to let it go
@@KnifeThoughts I don't blame you. Did I mention mine is black on black? 😀
It doesn't give as much room as the other Protechs I have, as far as pressing the release button. Definitely takes getting used to.

The clip thing might have been a bit nit picky 😂
I have the original boker kwaiken with the thumb disk and green micarta. It will also bite you with the blade closed, but it's at the tip on mine.
I noticed that as well👍

Yeah it is such a cool looking design but just not well executed from a predicament standpoint.
whats your favorite pro tech?
So far the Godfather for sure.

Not worth redoing in my opinion
lol at bringing up 3rd party scales for an automatic. new to knives?

What do you see as so different about the handles / ergonomics between these and a sodbuster? I like both types of knives.
@@KnifeThoughts There doesn’t seem to be any roundedness on the scales meaning they will dig in more and they look to slim?

I love my OTFs! I've got some videos on OTFs in the pipeline.

Wrong. OTFs are less reliable than any side opening automatic. Especially a quality one like a Pro-tech.
