This was so lovely Allison! Charleston seems like my kind of town. Plenty to see. Such a charming, low key, tranquil vibe. No hustle bustle. I remember when they were devastated by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. The city took a direct hit from that 135 mph storm. Its recovery was nothing short of remarkable.

i’ve never watched your videos but this was in my recommendations so i decided to watch it. i live very close to charleston and i think it was so interesting to see this through a tourists perspective. things like the waterfront park have been part of my childhood and i think it’s so interesting to have a different perspective on it.

While at the Tea Plantation you should have gone nextdoor to the Firefly sweet tea vodka distillery!
Also, much of old Charleston design stems from Barbados. Sugar cane planters set off north in the 1670's looking for a place to expand and landed here.

I'm from Puerto Rico but I live in North Charleston, SC. Charleston is nice, but no offense Puerto Rico have the most beautiful beaches and food. You need to try!

New Orleans is Charleston's sister city.
No trip down South is complete without a helping of real barbecue. Bessinger's has been a staple for decades, and Home Team is one of the new favorites. Home Team has locations in West Ashley and on Sullivan's Island. If you want good beachfront dining with a touch of Caribbean flair, you gotta try Coconut Joe's on Isle of Palms. You captured some great footage of The Battery. It's beautiful during the day, but it absolutely breathtaking at sunset. If you have a good enough digital camera, you can capture some shots good enough to print and frame for your walls!! Tours of Fort Sumter are always popular, as are the Ghost Tours. Did you manage to do either of those in your venture? A personal favorite of mine is catching sunrise over the Atlantic on any of the area beaches (IOP is my favorite). There is something so cathartic, almost spiritual, about the experience. I used to love leaving for work a few hours early, hitting the sand for a power walk, and catching the waves roll in while the sun breaks over the horizon. What could be better?

New Orleans is not our sister city Savannah is. But yes there are many similarities between NOLA and Chuck. Also Home Team is not new, unless you just meant new to you. You should try their BBQ nachos if you havent already they're great! & I agree with your thoughts on The Battery and visiting Fort Sumter, both are great.

I go to school here! I’m so glad you enjoyed the city, they have so many awesome house museums, art galleries, and just beautiful historic homes and sites. There are also so many museums that I would recommend and our aquarium is really pretty. Another place to go see is the waterfront park where you can see dolphins. You can also do house tours of old houses. My favorite is probably the Joseph Manigault House. Another great place is the historic street market on meeting street. There are also awesome ghost tours you can do and there is king street which is popular for shopping. The gibbes museum and the Charleston museum are some great places to see and the college of Charleston, my school, has the Halsey art museum which shows students and local artists.

Thanks for the reminder that solo travelling is fun, I hadn't done it in a couple of years and thought I couldn't do it anymore but I was just to busy/lazy to plan a holiday by myself. I was taking advantage of someone else doing the planning but now I finished building and moved into my brand new house last month no more excuses! I have already been away for a weekend, I booked 2 more trips and even have a couple in mind for the rest of the year.

@@allisonanderson thank you 😊. I went to Bordeaux last weekend and I am going to Majorca at the end of the month. Then Copenhagen and Malmö in September and hopefully Marrakech and Berlin by the end of the year. I find cities are easier for solo travelling for now. Hopefully I'll be able to do more as I get back into it.

Would love to hear about solo filming (do you just set up your camera and walk away from it?), and also eating alone in restaurants!! I love solo travel but I'm still intimidated by sitting alone in a restaurant!
Yep! For the shots you see where I'm riding the bike or walking, I just set it on the little tripod I have (I use one of those vlog-style extension ones) and walk away. I can usually only get away with this in not-busy areas though... I would be a little nervous doing this on a busy street. For eating solo in restaurants, it is a little awkward the first couple of times you do it. But it really is true that everyone is so focused on themselves, no one even notices. If I can, I try to sit at the bar because the seating is usually open (no wait!) and then I'm not taking up a whole table.
I have lived here most of my life. I eat alone all the time. You get used to it. And even though I do not drink alcohol, I sit at the bar, and strike up a conversation.
