This is the first real game remake I ever played, back in 1992 when I was thirteen years old. 1992 was an incredible year for PC video games: QFG1, Wolfenstein 3-D, King's Quest VI, Ultima Underworld, Ultima VII, Flashback, SimLife, Alone in the Dark, Dune and many others. I remember spending a shameful amount of time trying to climb that tree.
I would like to thank you for posting this video. It has been a very long time since I’ve played the series, and it’s nice to see that there are videos that are long plays of this gem. Keep being awesome!
this was very challenging for me as a kid. i loved this game but could never figure it out. i became a young sierra fan because of this game. i remember always choosing the thief. so nostalgic
What an amazing time to be alive. I was in my early 20s (I turn 56 this year, 2024!) I spent so much time playing this game. I so badly wanted to wake up and find myself living in this little village!
Childhood memories! I started a new channel that recreates scenes from these old games - It's my little ode to my youth and a nod to the games I will NEVER forget. Do you remember the Sierra hotline for hints and tips? I really miss those days...
Sometimes, I would play this video and just let it run in the background while I work. Love the music and the background ASMR noises, especially of the forests!
I found out about this superb game through this walkthrough here on TH-cam, just lately. I immediately bought the game and played it on my own. It was a GREAT game !!! My favorites were: Simon the Sorcerer, Monkey Island, Indiana Jones, Loom, Day of the Tentacle, Zak McKracken. With Quest for Glory 1, I found another TRUE classic :)) Thanks !
I played the original quest for glory via text years ago, and skipped over to quest for glory 3 and Shadow of Darkness, and I was going to revisit the first quest for glory with the updated engine, but sadly I did not carry through with my initial intent, so roughly 3 decades later here I am living vicariously through this play through, and am enjoying myself immensely, especially watching all the silly things like immediately going into sneaking mode from the beginning, farming all the goblins to pad the stats and watching a virtual genocide, witnessing the extended duration of dodging a brigand member to also up the stats, then watching the lock picking skills on a cave not intended to be picked by conventional means (or left nostril for that matter)🤣 ah yes, Nostalgia from simpler times! Thank you!
I loved this game so much! I remember drooling over the graphics of the time 🙂. I would replay it over and over trying to win it using different skills each time. What a great game!
The developers sure had a great sense of humor. Wish developers could be this wholesome and humorous these days instead of just putting out generic texts.
damn this game was awesome :) Idk why but I always loved the working at the stables part in this game as a kid lol, I was too scared of monsters lol to farm them, even the goblins. Monsters in all quest for glories were really scary to me as a kid lol, just how you felt safe and then they popped up out of nowhere :D
i played the shit out of this game since 1996 when i was 6 yrs old, couldnt even read properly but loved it. So i replayed it like 10 more times in the next few years when i finaly understand the text. Later on i started to have a thing for the centaur lady selling apples. I still find her hot
Dude same with me. My uncle had this on his shitty old computer when I was like 10 and I just played it over and over. Just bought it again on steam much better with instructions..
Hehe, this game was certainly not for the impatient.. I remember typing "climb rock" for hours as a kid.. But i guess this game made me learn english so that was good..
kribbod What's strange is that I never played any of the Quest for Glory games as a kid. I'm not sure why! I wore-out Space Quest, King's Quest, even Police Quest and others, but never attempted this series - that's actually why I wanted to watch the playthrough! You're so right; it's very charming.
Played the original *parser version on a 286 back in the day. Took me forever to figure out how to even get into the castle. "Ask about gate". First game I ever played. Love 1-4. You can keep 5.
This is the first adventure game I ever played. It was the EGA version, though. It is still may favorite series besides Monkey Island en Indiana Jones.
Well, I never played this when I was a kid, but I did play King's Quest VI and Roger Wilco's Space Quest IV. Didn't know what the hell I was doing back then, so I got nowhere, lmao. Also, did anyone ever play Return to Zork? Not the text-only Zork games that came before, but the one that was fully visual and even had some (low-quality) voice-acting? I think it was released in 1994 or something
It's to boost his sneak skill. You gain it by sneaking so sneaking around everywhere, even when unnecessary, helps to boost it up although at the cost of fatigue. The game's skill system works such that the more you use a skill, the more it increases on its own without involving level ups. So if you want to get good at climbing, just climb stuff all over the place and you'll eventually get good at climbing.
I have a question. I've read that this game has some timer issues. Do I need to install unofficial patches or simply using DosBox will work? And if so, which is the amount of CPU cycles I have to set?
right, I did the same thing (the skill improve only when you perform it), but I couldn't stand the slowness so I had to increase the speed of the game;)
Wow this brings me back to middle school days! I remember there was a cheat/glitch that let you put your stats up in the thousands. They also made a Sci fin game that took place on xenon, do you remember the name of that one?
Installed this game on my modern pc last year... can't complete it because the pc made the bandit maze part WAY TOO FAST 😂😂😂 Still, brings back tons of memories during the king's quest, Ultima, monkey island days...
I am interested in knowing if the game is harsh like the Sierra adventures are known to be? I.e. you don't do something and then hours after, you get killed and have to get back to that point so that you could continue, and such things that Toegoff explained in some of his videos. Is there such a thing here as well?
It's Sierra, they all have something like that. However, QFG1 isn't necessarily as bad at it. There are a few instances in the game where if you don't pay attention you can get killed pretty easily. The other series were much worse at killing you off hours later.
Yeah Quest for Glory, as a series, is TAME compared to pretty much every other Sierra adventure game. I don't believe this game even has a true Dead Man Walking consequence
+aceshighdueceslow iirc there are a few actions that can make the game unwinnable. There's a post on the gog forums about it which can easily be found with a google search.
Have you noticed the illuminati symbols in the castle? (there is checked floor and also a pyramid with the all-seeing eye on the window as well as above the door of the magic shop. And all the pentagrams...
It was a common theme associated with magic back in the 90s. The detect magic symbol is also the "all-seeing eye" symbol. It's in reference to the "third eye," not the Illuminati. There were tons of news stories out that anyone that played role-playing games and the like were demon worshippers during the 90s, lol.
Also I kind of realized the Inn part was actually quite a stereotypical take towards Middle Eastern people. Borderline racist, actually; something I didn't really realize when I was very young.
Man, I loved this game. I remember my mom playing this. I'm not gonna lie, it's one of those games I'll never forget.
Yeah I remember playing this game with your mom too.
yep nostalgic explosion for me too
Ok, respect...but like, why *would* you lie about liking this classic?
I played this so much when I was younger! I never beat it. I was too young to understand most of it.
Absolutely will never forget.
Yeah but I bet your climbing stat was out of this world by the end
We all try to climb that tree - over and over - someday... it will work!
I love this game so much. Spent hundreds of hours playing with each of the different characters. Thank you for the memories.
Omg. My childhood..... Sierra Games were my shit!
I would like to thank you for posting this video. It has been a very long time since I’ve played the series, and it’s nice to see that there are videos that are long plays of this gem. Keep being awesome!
My favorite series of PC games growing up. Watching this makes me happy. Thanks for uploading.
this was very challenging for me as a kid. i loved this game but could never figure it out. i became a young sierra fan because of this game. i remember always choosing the thief. so nostalgic

I LOVE Erana's Peace. I get warm tingles whenever I go there in this or QFG4.
Wow I never actually beat the game, come to find out. Glad to actually know the ending!!
This was my very first rpg game. It’s what got me seriously hooked on games in the first place.
I remember it taking me much longer than 4 hours to beat..
I think I spent at least an hour climbing the tree over and over to get my climb points up!
My grandmother got me into this game. Love this game brings back so much nostalgia
Give space quest a whirl, especially the time traveling one - that's my favorite
I loved this game so much! I remember drooling over the graphics of the time 🙂. I would replay it over and over trying to win it using different skills each time. What a great game!
I'd always go back to the that section of the forest where the goblins are hiding and kill em over and over to level up my thief.
Mikey James Yep. best way to do that. Good way to get money too.
The developers sure had a great sense of humor. Wish developers could be this wholesome and humorous these days instead of just putting out generic texts.
Try Psychonauts
You drank the Dragon's Breath. You are amazing. :D
damn this game was awesome :) Idk why but I always loved the working at the stables part in this game as a kid lol, I was too scared of monsters lol to farm them, even the goblins. Monsters in all quest for glories were really scary to me as a kid lol, just how you felt safe and then they popped up out of nowhere :D
Good times, good memories. Thanks for posting :)

Dude same with me. My uncle had this on his shitty old computer when I was like 10 and I just played it over and over. Just bought it again on steam much better with instructions..
Yeah, and Shema's dance in the next game .
40:39 Oh My!! I didn't expect THAT to happen with the cat. XD
They really did nail the remake. I always liked that early 90s Sierra interface.
This was the first game I played on PC! Only had consoles before this.
This was my very first game on a pc. Fond memories.
I can't believe I watched him throw rocks at a tree in silence for so many minutes... Where did my life go wrong?
+SmittenKitten I spoke too soon. I've just watched him use a lockpick on his own nose for an extended period...
Hehe, this game was certainly not for the impatient.. I remember typing "climb rock" for hours as a kid.. But i guess this game made me learn english so that was good..
kribbod Agreed. I love the old Sierra games, and they definitely helped me learn how to type as a kid!
Yes i especially love this one. It's still ingrained in my mind after all these years. So charming.
kribbod What's strange is that I never played any of the Quest for Glory games as a kid. I'm not sure why! I wore-out Space Quest, King's Quest, even Police Quest and others, but never attempted this series - that's actually why I wanted to watch the playthrough! You're so right; it's very charming.
The Three Stooges cracked me up, and the Dinosaur dad walking to work always made me laugh!
Oo yeah! Without commentary always better.
Thank you!
This game meant everything to me back then
Back then, Sierra could do no wrong. Loved this one, Shadows of Darkness, and the King's Quest series.
Zara the mage was my crush when I played this as a 6 year old lol!
I played this when I was 6 or 7 on my dad's pc. Back in the 90s. And I could never figure out the name. I'm about to nostalgia hard
my great oldie, i never grow too old to play this (34y now)
The music is so good… The healers hut theme is my favorite I think
I like that moment when you train your pick locks skill by picking your own nostril.
Damn to relive childhood memories!
one of the greatest
Played the original *parser version on a 286 back in the day. Took me forever to figure out how to even get into the castle. "Ask about gate". First game I ever played. Love 1-4. You can keep 5.
This game was badass. It had the adventure feel of King’s Quest but more action and RPG elements
What a masterpiece
I love how the old games forced us to slow down
the way the hero walks ... it's creeping not walking
I've played this game. Since English isn't my native language, it was pretty confusing playing this game. I've never finished it.
this brings me back to 1993 i would play this then go on prodigy. this game influenced the makers of skyrim im sure
Damn, that was so long time ago... I remember my childhood
This is the first adventure game I ever played. It was the EGA version, though. It is still may favorite series besides Monkey Island en Indiana Jones.
First game i ever played scared the shit out of me
This old game seems to be the inspiration for Heroine's Quest!
Indeed it was! And as an old Quest for Glory fan, it really captured the spirit perfectly!
Блин, скучаю по таким играм... Ну просто ж сказка! 🙌☘🌳
Wish I could play this
What gives the last 3 score points? This is the same result I had 25 years ago lol
Best game ever!
Does the goblin in the middle never have any money? Is that why you don’t check its body?
Well, I never played this when I was a kid, but I did play King's Quest VI and Roger Wilco's Space Quest IV. Didn't know what the hell I was doing back then, so I got nowhere, lmao. Also, did anyone ever play Return to Zork? Not the text-only Zork games that came before, but the one that was fully visual and even had some (low-quality) voice-acting? 40:00 It didn't award points for petting the cat? FAQ says it should have. Seems to be the missing 3 points.
I mever realy got to play it because the install disks had an error but some parts worked
Can anyone recommend a modern game similar to Quest for Glory?
How come you’re sneaking everywhere?
It's to boost his sneak skill. You gain it by sneaking so sneaking around everywhere, even when unnecessary, helps to boost it up although at the cost of fatigue. The game's skill system works such that the more you use a skill, the more it increases on its own without involving level ups. my graphics on my computer is jaggy...how cna I make it looks great like this tutorial. I'm using windows 8.1 with nvidia gtx 760.
I have the whole set from gog. Where can I download the DOSBOX EMULATOR?
I have a question.
I've read that this game has some timer issues. Do I need to install unofficial patches or simply using DosBox will work? And if so, which is the amount of CPU cycles I have to set?
Was that big orange-ish dragon a Saurus Rex?
What 3 points were missed?
Will someone please write a list of the things one has to do to complete the game? I really like the story but this is taking four hours to play.
+Melody Clark You could probably find something by searching Google for a walkthrough.
Fester Blats
It's only cheating if I want to play the game. What I want is the story.
Melody Clark Agreed. :)
Im more interesting in getting max game points.
4 hours!? Wtf!
4:32:00 witch music is the best
The dragon's brew is a little too hot to handle!
Why is the main character hunched over through the whole game?
I think they had him sneak everywhere for half the game to level up his Stealth skill.
right, I did the same thing (the skill improve only when you perform it), but I couldn't stand the slowness so I had to increase the speed of the game;)
Wow this brings me back to middle school days! I remember there was a cheat/glitch that let you put your stats up in the thousands. They also made a Sci fin game that took place on xenon, do you remember the name of that one?
Space Quest
You can play it online right now:
classicreload.com/quest-for-glory-i-so-you-want-to-be-a-hero.html
And it work very well :) Thanks for the info!
Thank you!
Does anyone know where I can get this for Mac?
+Byron Steele Try GOG
+Byron Steele the porting kit
Riker visits you at the end at 4:33:34, the Enterprise will beam him up at the start at QfG 2 :)
Installed this game on my modern pc last year... can't complete it because the pc made the bandit maze part WAY TOO FAST 😂😂😂
Still, brings back tons of memories during the king's quest, Ultima, monkey island days...

Damien Jones
Thanks! Finally I can play them! :D
Yeah Quest for Glory, as a series, is TAME compared to pretty much every other Sierra adventure game. I don't believe this game even has a true Dead Man Walking consequence
aceshighdueceslow
Thank god! :-D
+aceshighdueceslow iirc there are a few actions that can make the game unwinnable. There's a post on the gog forums about it which can easily be found with a google search.
The adventure I get for ransom
Labeling it long play but pressing X immediately is so ass backwards
Have you noticed the illuminati symbols in the castle? (there is checked floor and also a pyramid with the all-seeing eye on the window as well as above the door of the magic shop. And all the pentagrams...

Bashirian Roads
we made a map for the game :)))
Rubie Overpass
Also I kind of realized the Inn part was actually quite a stereotypical take towards Middle Eastern people. Borderline racist, actually; something I didn't really realize when I was very young.
Ward Terrace
Gislason Harbors
My favorite game, sadly i never see end:(
Beautiful game. BTW the text looks female to me; was it written by Lori Cole?
Isabel Valleys
Somehow I preferred original EGA version over this. Combat there was much better, too.
Erana is my homegirl
Abdiel Square
Music in 90 on DoS game are so so crappy compare with amiga computer.
I wish port to Mobile
I killed baba yaga
game is a buggy piece of shit, you'd think they'd fix some things but it's extremely annoying trying to play this
we made a map for the game :)))
