Opening scene I caught those same 2 units on a westbound at Pine Road around the summer or fall after the merger. Guess they ran around paired up for a while back then. Great catch, brings back memories.
Wow! I didn’t think any Kodachrome SF units still existed in ‘99. Even according to the Wiki SPSF page it says all SF Kodachrome units were completed painted back to SF colors by ‘90. Obviously this video says differently.
I was equally surprised to see a Kodachrome in the late 90s! The story I heard was that a small number of C30-7s went off lease while in Kodachrome & sent back to GE. Santa Fe later purchased them & they remained in service through the early BNSF era. Some were even patched for BNSF in Kodachrome paint.
@@atsf93 Very interesting! Thanks for sharing both your videos and that story. I have a bunch of train videos on VHS, that my uncle and I shot back in the late 80’s and early 90’s. One day I need to get them loaded to TH-cam. Take care.
Lucky catch at 2:57 with the shortlived gray NS 86’ boxcar with the horse logo! Those didn’t last long when the graffiti artists started painting sexual appendages under the horse logo.
I think the last time I saw Grand Trunk was the early 90's in Cincinnati. The last time I saw Chessie was 2004.... Trains aren't as interesting as they used to be. Nowaday's you have mostly CSX and NS. Boring paint scheme's.

Only like two of the trains in this video would still be possible today.
Used to enjoy seeing the NS "ponies" on the old Wabash line and switching at the old Studebaker stamping plant during this era.

Great historical stuff there, Brian!
Nice catches and great horns...and interesting mix of power, and great sounds...
10:02 your one lucky railfan. By then it was pretty much impossible to find a kodachrome loco.
Awesome video man!!
I don’t way I like trains but I do
