I enjoyed this video. Liked hearing all about your experience. I am to old to start something like this but I always wanted to do what you two are doing. Be thankful you have each other that wanted to do the same thing. I am 73 but wish I was closer to you so I could possibly enjoy your farm. Congratulations for all you have done.

Do you happen to have a video of building the goat barn? We have a great little goat hut my husband built, but this fall it will be repurposed for the mama-kid area, so we’d like to build something bigger like what you have. Thank you! I so enjoyed this video. We are 18 months on our land, and about a year into our farm. Praying God will bless us with self-sustainability by Summer 2021! 🙌🏻☺️

Jen you mention selling Etsy, a lot of people I watch who were on Etsy, have now gone o:er to eBay because of some new Etsy rules. You might check that out closely. I believe it was on how much they were having to pay the company & how much the company was charging for shipping. Just want you to be aware.

Do. Not. Become a seller on Etsy. Their fees and listing fees take all the profit from your items. You will be better off buying a domain and making a website through Shopify or Big Cartel.

For anyone curious farmers WANT to break even. They don't want any profit because that's taxable money. Farmers, especially large-scale, will write off everything possible on taxes so they make no profit. Tax write-off examples are trucks, trailers, any "business" restaurant meetings, equipment, etc. So anyone who is looking into this life remember to don't want profits 😉

Stivers Homestead,Question which I am praying you have an answer to. I have either a rat, mouse or vole in my house. The house is almost 100 years old so there is plenty of holes and no way to close them all off. They demoed a house the street down and I got ( they say if you see one there are more) them. I live in the city and trying so hard to find away to get land in the country ( not allowed chickens here) sorry getting side tracked. The rodent is digging up my seed trays and eating the seeds or if the seedling have sprouted they are eating the tops off. I have snap trays, glue and even poison. They haven't touched any of them but have destroyed the pepper and herbs and other of my seed trays/ Any ideas would be a blessing. I have been starting my seeds for several years with never a problem till now. Thank you for the time and God's blessing to you and yours.

WRT selling plant starts, we have 3.6 ppl/sq mile. Kentucky has 110 ppl/sq mile. Only one nursery can be profitable within a one hour drive radius.
But growing your own food is like printing your own money.
Farm fresh eggs sell like hot cakes at $3.50 per dozen.
Milking goats is on my mind to have.

I love this video so so much! When ever we are finally able to get to Michigan (delayed cause of covid) and do get our homestead we fully intend to make money with it. It just makes sense imo.. we are already going to be doing stuff for ourselves, so why not do extra for profit and to also help others? I have so many ideas of things to do ranging from market, online, in person class/demo, maybe kids camps, etc. There are so many possibilities. There are several things ya'll are doing that we also had wanted to do, so its really cool to be able to watch your journey! So excited for your family! 💖💖💖

I started search for any Chanel about gardening in Arkansas. Living traditions was one I connected with which led to VW family farm which led to y’all & Jess & one other that name escapes me right now. Jess did devotions just other day about her goats being the calling from God. Gave me confirmation about how I live my life. Dang, I was with y'all 100%, right up to the 'find a dog you like and breed 'em'. Careless statements like that lead to the overpopulation of dogs we see in the U.S. and the millions of animals destroyed each year due to unnecessary breeding. To all who read this, please avail yourself of the local animal shelter or rescue organization when you feel the need for puppies. With all love and respect.

Great video! I would like to see a goat hooves trimming video. Living Traditions Homestead has a great pig water/feed stand video you might like.

Home canned goods are profitable, my mom doesn’t grow her pickled red beets she buys them from a local farmer and cans them and sells the quarts for like 5 or 6$ a jar which covers the cost of the beets, her time other ingredients and the jar, ring and lid... she also does tomatoes as well
