Hello Adam, thanks again for fishing my favorite lake. It’s is a good fishery not easy and there is a little leaning curve..so dropping those lucky craft craft lures in deep water like over 80 feet in the summer it’s going to be macs that hit it. The marks on the sounder in mid water at 40-80 ft kokes. If you want trout mostly rainbows, you have to troll along the shore in 20-30ft of water over rocks. It’s best to troll night crawlers and I like to use slow death hooks… I hoped to talk to you at the street fair but I didn’t make it to the event. Trolling broken back hard baits over the flats especially in the spring could produce big GBT… take care

Hey I grew up on north shore Tahoe. The Lake trout in the vid was probably mostly fine after release but if you go any deeper, it’s good to pause when reeling them in at somewhere between 40-60 feet until you see some bubbles come up. This will allow them to eject the air from their swim bladders. These fish aren’t quite as hardy as ocean fish so it’s kind of important to do if you don’t have descending device. Anyway, awesome vid! That Kokanee was actually a pretty decent size, they don’t get very big.

Very nice! My brother owns property there, but really doesn’t fish it much (which I don’t understand). I’m a retired Great Lakes Charter Captain, and have some advice for you Sir. Make a habit of wearing high visibility orange hat and or vest while fishing from your kayak. Also, a Mustang type self inflating vest would be smart too. As for your riggers, try using a rubber band for a release; that will eliminate the false releases you’re getting. Good luck, be safe.

It maybe line drag pressure at that depth pulling on the clip ... maybe !

I lost many fish with the clip method, the problem is that the line gets slack after being released, enabling the fish to get rid of the hook. I then sorted to clip lines directely on the downrigger line, allowing to use multiple lines.

You ever try a shuttle hawk Adam ? It will save you alot of messing with your downrigger.

Wash your release clip in lemon joy dishwashing liquid. It may have some kind of oil or scent from anchovies from your fingers on it making it slippery, been there a couple times. I always carry a small bottle in my kayak for washing it.

The drive by strike were almost certainly Kokanee.
I've lived here my hole life and despise fishing Tahoe. It's the ONLY lake in the area I've never caught anything.

Always wanted to fish Tahoe. One day! Tighten the clip on your downrigger if you think it’s just popping loose

That’s some CLEAR water! Stacking on a power boat is hard enough, can’t imagine doing it on a kayak

i like the variety of fishing you do. you should try some salmon fishing on the sacramento river, lots of people are catching early fish off jigs and flatfish. worth a shot

I forget how blue the water is there. It looks like pulling a tuna out of the ocean water on a clear day.

The air pressure is making it pop off.. at a 100 feet deep you have to imagine the air pressure within the lure is multiplied by significant amount… all it wants to do is float to the surface at that depth

I think those were Kokanee pulling you off the DRs. Can’t set the hook on those like a salmon…Spilt Milt on TH-cam has the best technique fore Kokanee.
