Fun fact, Eminem wrote both battle lyrics to both sides in the movie(won an oscar for best original soundtrack) while writing the 8 mile CD contains 16 songs!
Eminem was signed to a record deal several years before 8 Mile came out. He went to the Rap Olympics in Los Angeles in 1997 and won second. There were a couple of Reps from Interscope Records there, who got a demo copy of his CD Infinite and gave that to Dr. Dre. Dre tracked Eminem down and signed Eminem to a deal and started working on his first CD. His first hit "My Name Is" video came out in 1999. His second CD The Marshal Mathers LP came out in 2000 and he was nominated for 3 or 4 Grammies in 2001. The movie 8 Mile came out in 2002.
