Seems you must hit them as they are falling down. I did this by accident on the Eclipse Smuggling mission Garrus and Thane had max ammo and I used Stasis; immediately after the bubble bursts I hit WARP . The Mech stopped fighting, fell to it's knees in full armor and did a slow helicopter-like almost nuclear explosion. Then I figured out "this glitch is a damage multiplier!" lol fucking fun glitch!!!! To think I only discovered it 5 minutes ago. This video confirms it!!! Thanks.
Wasn't the bug that when in Stasis, an enemy gets flagged as Friendly, dropping its higher level extra health and protection? Thus, when the enemy falls out of stasis you can do a horrendous amount of damage, but only then. After, it gets its higher health and protection again.

I've heard that explanation (which might be consistent with what you see at 0:10). But what happens at 0:36 is a bit baffling.
