    Cool! The 41 is really blowing the doors off of people's expectations! Im currently building a Savage Axis that I will be posting videos about, but a friend of mine was talking about possibly building an AR 15 in the 41. I'll let him know what you have going on. Thanks! Keep up the good work!

      The 41 GL is the most impressive round I've ever seen perform in the AR-15 platform outside of precision long distance rounds. I'm very excited to be part of this project. I'm sure your Axis will be the best performing deer rifle you've ever owned.

    All I and most deer hunters in the midwest want to know is if the brass case is UNDER 1.8" or not
    Then its legal to use in most if not all midwest states to deer hunt with
    Now if you can just get Ruger, Savage and CVA to make bolt rifles chambered in it
    Right now my public land deer cartridge is the 450BM I can push a 240grn Bear Creek copper bullet at an MV of 2550fps and my 245 grain Hornaday Interlocks at 2450fps but still only a 300 yard deer rifle.
    Will hope a reputable bolt gun company offers a model in this caliber soon
    Unless someone is manufacturing an AR upper or rifle am thinking reloading dies aren't yet available either
    Use Hornaday Custom Grade reloading dies for my HG and all straight wall rifle cartridges excellent quality dies

      @@arthurdirindinjr1792 Yes the case is less than 1.8". My company is manufacturing uppers now and coming out with a bolt action in 2025. Idk if you know how long the 450 Bushmaster was out before Ruger picked them up, but I can say this. It will be a while before a budget rifle comes out. That being said my partners who designed the round have presented this to Ruger, CVA, Savage, etc. We figure if Obsidian Rifle Works can sell enough rifles it will show those big companies how much interest there is in the round.

    Was the 444 not considered because it doesn't reach out far enough?

    • @ObsidianRifleWorks
      @ObsidianRifleWorks  หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Great question: Here in lower MI we're not only restricted to straight wall cartridges, but those cartridges must fit within specific parameters such as OAL cannot exceed 1.80" which means we can't use the 444, 45-70, or a host of other historically excellent rounds. In this video I just compared the most utilized/popular rounds in lower MI. Gotta love how regulated/restricted our freedoms are.

    Of the "straight wall compliant" options, 350L and 41GL seem to have the principle advantage of component commonality with the .223 and .308. And should we want anything else? They're cartridges created by legislation, they should be made as little of a burden on manufacturing as possible. What lives by legislation, dies by legislation.
    350L added value by bringing new powder capacity to the .378 rim diameter, 450L didn't and is actually less performant than it's parent .284. 400Legend is just in the weeds compatiblity wise; who cares about sharing a rim with the 6.8SPC? The 6.8SPC failed in it's mission, the military didn't adopt it, the .224Valk didn't take off. That rim diameter barely has any presence and creates additional component dimensions which ultimately mean rifle manufacturers need a whole new gun, not just a new barrel.
    I really hope 350L and 41GL are the future of this segment, so that a working guy can just spin on their pre-fit barrel for hunting season and be done with it, not buy a whole new gun.

      @ObsidianRifleWorks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      As of yet Douglas barrels is manufacturing the custom barrels for all 41 GL rifles. If you contact them you should be able to get a barrel for your current bolt gun. We're making the AR barrels currently, and working on the 700 barrels for the future.

    40-60 lbs of felt recoil on the 450 BM? Negative.

      @ObsidianRifleWorks  หลายเดือนก่อน

      That was significantly higher than what I expected as well. I guess the guys should post a video with the dynamometer for comparison. This does depend on which rifle platform, muzzle device, and ammunition utilized obviously.

    With the energy levels you expressed for the various bullets, it sounds like it’ll be capable for more than just deer, at reasonable ranges. Possibly a wonder cartridge that might find favor with hunters doing hog eradication in states with those issues. No doubt it would be good for bears, too. Looking forward to more updates.
    P.S. Ron Spomer had a short video recently touting this new cartridge. He seems impressed with it.

    • @ObsidianRifleWorks
      @ObsidianRifleWorks  6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Would you say the 450 feels like 10-15 lbs of recoil? If so, that's because the standard butt pad is 4"-4.5". This recoil measurement is taken per square inch. If you were to take 40 lbs divide by 4 inches = 10 pounds of felt recoil. We're talking specific 1" measurements of recoil. If you could please engineer a better, more accurate way to measure recoil. I'd love to test it, and will recant my statement if your device proves me wrong.

      That's a great idea! I'd love to see the ballistic performance. Please load up those 150gr, shoot it on a chronograph, and tag us in the video. I'd love to see the data. If you're handloading the 360 you should get better performance than factory loads. I'm basing our data off factory loads of the 360, and so far they all fall short.

      Check out Gabe's testing of a few different 41 GL loads:

      Compare the velocities on the video to what Remington lists as their velocities for similar weight rounds:

      If you do the math to figure out energy difference between the 41 and the 360 you'll see the performance difference.

      The 225 Gr Fury projectile, BC .210 @ 2,475 matches the energy out at 400 yards. It's not apples and apples because we're talking a straightwall vs necked magnum, but it's outstanding nonetheless.

      @@ObsidianRifleWorks I calculated every factory Hornady load they offer in 7 Rem mag and its not even close in energy at any distance.. The .41GL is slightly better than a factory loaded 450BM 250gr @2200fps. Hopefully in time we will see better bullets and loads for it, but its to close to the 450BM to really care tbh.

    400 yards with a glorified pistol cartridge is morally disgusting.

    • @ObsidianRifleWorks
      @ObsidianRifleWorks  26 วันที่ผ่านมา

      That's great insight. While standard commercial 41 cal projectiles are for pistol loads, we use 41 cal rifle projectiles manufactured by several different companies to maintain performance out to 400 yards. You're absolutely correct that using pistol projectiles at those distances is at best questionable. Check out Gabe's testing of a few different loads:

      Absolutely correct! The Pro Staff hunters in MI have been using this round for 4 years now, and a few have reached out to 550 yards. While I don't advise the typical hunter to attempt this, the energy is still capable out to that range, the drop is just insane.
