C7 Grand Sports are great cars. Congrats to both of you. I bought an '18 Z06/Z07 a bit over a year ago (July '18) with the 7-spd manual. Great car too though with the supercharger it's fuel hungry. If you get on it at all the gas gauge goes down as quick as your speed goes up. Lol. The 650hp/650 lb.-ft. is pretty much overkill for the street but it's still a blast. You can't go wrong with a C7 Vette. They're the last of their kind (front engine with an available manual). The C8 is going to be great but I'm going to hang onto my Z06.
I want to learn how to drive a stick shift again but the Vette might not be the right choice given how much power it has and how easy it is to get in trouble
pontiacGXPfan Interesting you should say that. I’ve taught my son to drive a manual transmission on my Corvette. With so much torque, the Corvette doesn’t stall. It’s a surprisingly good car on which to learn to drive.
I bought a blue Grand Sport one month ago, and it's my first Corvette. I'm 68 years old, always wanted one, and I sure love mine. I went with the automatic because I do a lot of city driving and couldn't stand the thought of shifting the gears. I definitely would recommend this car.

Actually pretty much all auto journalists are saying the same thing. The Z06 has more power than the chassis can handle and is more prone to snap oversteer than fast laps, whereas the Grand Sport is the perfect blend of power, handling, balance, and braking. But way to overreact over someone's opinion anyway lol.
vdubjetta02 agree except for the latest twin turbo. My friend has C4S and we have switched cars and I have to say his car has no turbo lag at all. Pretty impressive although I guarantee yours sounds waaaay better lol
@Jerry Olson That's great to hear. Unfortunately I've never had the chance to drive a C7Z on track so I've never experienced it first hand, but glad to hear your car is well-balanced!

How do you like it? I drove my friend's GS Collector Edition not long ago. Sadly wasn't long enough of a drive as I would have liked. It was pretty awesome for the short time I drove it.
A secondary cat delete, ported throttle body, and a tune already puts my GS at 500hp. The tune made a huge difference alone. These cars are really dialed down from the factory. Hell, Power Enrichment doesn't kick in til 5000rpm and 77% throttle from factory. Now imagine PE kicking in at 2000rpm, 0% throttle, increased pedal sensitivity, and torque settings maxed out after a tune is done. Pretty much have full power on tap. My car is no longer 'street friendly'. Probably why GM had a mild tune on the car. The only thing keeping me somewhat disciplined is the cost of rear tires and fuel. 😆
@@azimy9388 ported throttle body* Not WHP, and yes, my fuel trims are within 1% so my VVE is within 1% of AFR, which for the GM LT1 direct injection fuel, is 14.1. I set my PE fuel table to 23% or 1.23, which puts my PE/WoT at 11.46 AFR. Direct injection is a different animal when it comes to tuning for fuel. My engine torque peaks at 495 when I log in HP tuners. I know i am at least 500 hp, since a buddy of mine owns a stock dodge Viper 3rd gen which is also 500 hp, and we are side by side when racing. I actually pull away a little bit from him from a stop up to about 100mph. I haven't even adjusted my timing. Car is fast enough for me. And I have zero engine knock, and want it to stay that way. I'll plan on adding the Blue Attack air filter next, which has been proven for another 10 hp on these cars. And best part, I get 30mpg when cruising in V8 mode. AFM is disabled.
The base Corvette is more than enough performance for 99% of drivers out there, and much easier to live with as a daily driver, or just occasional street duty, for everybody. Still, the Z06, Grand Sport, and now the new ZR1 are pretty irresistable.

As much as I love this new GS, I'd still take the 420hp Carrera S manual over this any day. I know it starts at $103,000 but that's why I'd buy a used one and let someone else take the depreciation hit. The 911 is a much nicer car to live with on a daily basis.
What is that opinion based on, exactly? The Grand Sport's magnetic adaptive suspension gives it a better ride over any kind of surface, its NA V8 gives it more torque and better throttle response, and it actually has more cargo space than the 911 does. And it can get 30 MPG on the highway, too. People like to make assumptions about the Corvette, like it's not easy to live with on a daily basis, but nobody has ever been able to back that up with actual fact-based reasoning.
Something I think people forget is the Z06 isn't the zr1. Yes it is the the fastest factory corvette right now but the zr1 is still to come. Did people expect the c6 z06 to mop everything on the road?
track mode is twitchy, sport mode cleans it up on track but loses the traction mode so GM dropped the ball on the race mode with proper traction only mode
Forget about the cheap plastics and the twerking rear end wrestling nobly for grip, the Corvette and the C7 Grand Sport in particular IS THE DEFINITIVE American Grand Touring car.
I Procharged my Stingray, 520 RWHP @ 95 deg ambient temp. Front mounts (it's a belt driven turbo) so you can keep the hood stock/low. I am torn because my next might be a Z06 if only for the tougher bottom end of the LT4, lower compression and all. So If mine is safely 600 at the crank, the LT4 can safely handle 800 at the crank. I prefer the centrifugal type supercharger because it has a nice linear boost curve, where roots boosts low end torque more, thus more for the 1/4 mile. Generally less snap oversteer.
In addition to the small boost in HP, it's lighter than the stingray with a wider frame, wheelbase, and wheels. That means more speed and more power to the ground. It's a pretty good deal for not much more in price.

only 1 thing missing, a naturally aspirated ohv, updated 427CID LT V-8, version. this model deserves it's OWN ENGINE. Not, the standard engine the BASE MODEL HAS. C'mon,Chevy, you can do it.
The hood of the Z06 actually uses a sticker to give it the two tone. Bringing the stripe all the way over the car to the back doesn’t look right. Having a stripe on the hood looks good. My C7 Z06 is black and it had a grey sticker in the hood for the two tone. I removed the sticker and had my painter paint the stripe in Corvette red.
They are not $6000 more in reality. The C7 Z06 3LZ with low milage can still be seen selling for over $75K. GS don’t bring anywhere close to that used.
I was just watching old videos the late 80's early 90's LT5, LT4, and LT1 naturally aspirated engines and looking at this as a GM fan and owner of both 97Z28 and 99SS with SLP full package center exhaust I am not impressed these newer muscle cars they are barely any quicker and average the same MPG if not worse! WTF 20-25 years later and not impressed. I know weight matters but still.........................................................
Dimitrios F barely any quicker??? the new z06 has a 2.9sec 0-60 and a 1/4 in the 10's! you 2 cars stock are literally probably 14+sec 1/4mile and 6sec 0-60. the new cars are a huge leap forward!
Dimitrios F They handle miles better than a Live rear axle F-Body, are way nicer to live with, are a couple seconds faster all around, and get way better mpg on the highway due to cylinder deactivation and vvt. I own a 02 Z06 and a 00 Z28. I feel a little pride knowing my Z06 can keep up with a new vette but it's not the better car.
The host looks so different then the 1990’s and 80’s. He has lost weight in his face. So he waited till he was elderly to lose the weight . Had been chubby since the eighties
Funny the 2018 mustang gt with the performance pack is mopping this thing in the 1/4 for about 20 grand less both with a faster time and higher trap speed
No, your comments are way off the mark. "Mopping" is an exaggeration at best, and more realistically just wrong. The GT hits 0-60 in just under 4. The GS hits it in 3.6. The GT hits a quarter mile in about 11.83. The GS hits the quarter mile in about 11.9. And, then to wrap it all up, the GS absolutely smokes the GT on the track and is a lineup where only the Z06 and other cars in the $190k plus range are actually beating it's track times. If you buy a corvette because you want a car that drives straight you're getting the wrong car.
Read the other comments do your research. Most reviews have the the GS Vette hitting 60 in 3.6 and quarter in 11.9 no stock Mustang GT can beat that , maybe tie it but not really beat it
the corvette in the 80s is literally the most unique body style to the corvette. It's the years that inspired the c5 and c6. There is literally no other car like it so to say it has been "copying" Ferrari is stupid. Try this...it's been beating Ferrari
FullBattleRattle 249 So the removal Hard top & Circle lights & Pop up lights didn't have any influence? Or the fact that Corvette went from a bulky body frame to more stream line? And the matter of fact attempting to build a mid engine.
GM paid back everything years ago. GM owes exactly zero to the government, and GM bought back the government's shares of GM as well. Don't be stupid about this, take 5 fucking seconds to google it. Second, this is far from the only good car GM makes. In addition to the Stingray, the Grand Sport and the Z06, there's also the Camaros, the 1LE, both SS and V6 varieties, the ZL1 and the upcoming Z/28, there's also the Chevy SS, and the Cadillac CTS-V and ATS-V. Every single one of those cars is better than anything in their respective classes.

Why is the fuel consumption more on the grand sport than the regular stingray?
Its same engine and hp.
Grippier tires mean more rolling resistance. More rolling resistance means more fuel consumption.
Heavier wheels and tires and larger brakes are all rotating mass increases, which also contribute to worse fuel economy.
Also more aerodynamics for downforce can cause a drag and effect milage.
track mode is twitchy, sport mode cleans it up on track but loses the traction mode so GM dropped the ball on the race mode with proper traction only mode

You mean AN empty wagon. AN. Jesus christ, what are you, 5?
Second, what does that have to do with anything we've been discussing at all? And what happened to you answering all the questions I asked you? And what happened to you answering my original question with an actual valid answer?
yeah street do have curves and turns. And yes, in most cases they are actually tighter than on a track, I mean do you not understand what a 90º turn is? Not only that, your inability to process this information indicates a fundamental lack of understanding regarding handling, what it is, and how it works. Handling is not something that only exists on a track, you fucking half wit.
Get your fucking shit together and come up with a much better response.
+B Mack - That's it? That's your response to me pointing out that you don't know how to use 'A" and "AN"? That's an admission of stupidity, idiot. And so is your inability to respond to anything else I said. Like I said, get your shit together and come back with a better response.
This isn't hard, it's very, very easy. But you still seem to be having a hard time with it. Maybe you need to go back to grade school and catch up.
Whoever produce this video really mess up with the color! Looks more orange than red half the time.
That’s the Corvette red it’s more of a tomato red color not a cherry red.
That is one old, unprepped looking track. Somebody bring a weedeater!
Lol
sweet
EXCELLENT.
12.3 is horrible modulate the throttle to put the power down don't overload the tires and suspension.
only 1 thing missing, a naturally aspirated ohv, updated 427CID LT V-8, version. this model deserves it's OWN ENGINE. Not, the standard engine the BASE MODEL HAS. C'mon,Chevy, you can do it.
for that price and it can still beat a Lexus lfa, Acura nsx, and even a 458 Italia
I love the car but that white stripe looks tacky
The hood of the Z06 actually uses a sticker to give it the two tone. Bringing the stripe all the way over the car to the back doesn’t look right. Having a stripe on the hood looks good. My C7 Z06 is black and it had a grey sticker in the hood for the two tone. I removed the sticker and had my painter paint the stripe in Corvette red.
@craigthescott5074 7 years later, since I made that comment, it's grown on me 😅. I still wouldn't want a stripe, but I don't dislike it now .
You would be nuts not to take the Z06 for just 6000$ more!
Unless you track your car…
They are not $6000 more in reality. The C7 Z06 3LZ with low milage can still be seen selling for over $75K. GS don’t bring anywhere close to that used.
I want one
DID YOU WARM UP THE TIRES PRIOR TO DRAG DUHHHH
Damn,..........does anyone at the track ever use the weedwacker ?
W0W
I feel a little pride knowing my Z06 can keep up with a new vette but it's not the better car.
paint it gray and it looks like the Batmobile
Batmobiles are black.
@@UvidCo yeah but with the really shitty black that GM has been using with the Corvette for years it might as well be gray
cartel del coche de la droga
The host looks so different then the 1990’s and 80’s. He has lost weight in his face. So he waited till he was elderly to lose the weight . Had been chubby since the eighties
He's OLD now. Lol
looks like the announcer lost weight
How many people wish he stop talking doing acceleration?
To date,none.

tHAT COLOR IS NOT tORCH RED ITS ORANGE !!
Most reviews have the the GS Vette hitting 60 in 3.6 and quarter in 11.9 no stock Mustang GT can beat that , maybe tie it but not really beat it
Do anyone else think this looks like a Ferrari
K. B. No
Absolutely not. It looks like a corvette.
FullBattleRattle 249 Corvette has been copying Ferrari since the '80s. I said this in another video & they deleted it! lol I guest the truth hurts...
the corvette in the 80s is literally the most unique body style to the corvette.
Sad that this is the only decent car GM makes....Government motors.. They still owe several billion to us the tax payers..
***** It paid back only part. They still owe billions
Stop talking. "Government Motors" just stop.
Vernon Price Not True...
grabir01 Absolutely true.
NO, let's NOT call it Grand Sportistan.... EVER... tyvm.
Scat Pack is faster and cheaper...

Bullshit! He does a great job.

Get outta here we love him as he is.
John is the ultimate optimist when it comes to the auto industry. That's why Motorweek is still going strong for over 35 years.
CD, better keep your limp wrists in braces.

If you hated that steering wheel, you are going to despise the current C8 design.
