Can you elaborate? Not that I have any problem with the team, but is "this what America is about" BECAUSE it's diverse? What if it just so happened that more of them were white, then that stops being ok? If a lot of them were white, then it's not America? Shouldn't it just be about the best people going, not what color they are? But if it's about race, 71% of Americans are white, so if race represents "America" then wouldn't the team only "represent America" if it were 71% white, 12% black, 7% asian and so on? And then "THAT'S AMERICA!!" I already know the unfortunate answer, I just want to see you try to navigate it. BTW I love Simone Biles because AFAIK she doesn't try to divide people by implying a team represents America because it's (in this case disproportionately, according to population statistics) diverse. On the contrary, she supports her teammates regardless of race.
When you see her standing among the others like this it is when it really hits you how small she is. To think while she is the smallest she is also the most powerful. AMAZING!
@@chloebrower2598 I love Jordan's sportsmanship, but I don't see her consistency as much as I see it in Jade's overall performance. I think that's where Jade will stand out for the selection committee. Honestly tho, ALL of them deserve to go 😉.
Olympic Trials next and is at the end of the month. These girls in this video represent the National Team for this year based mostly (with the exception of Shilese and Kaliya) on their results from this competition (Nationals.)
There will be another competition like this one (the Olympic Trials), but the top five athletes at that meet won’t necessarily all make the Olympic team. The top all around athlete will automatically get a spot on the team, but the selection committee picks the rest based off of different factors. Usually the team will consist of 2-3 all around athletes, and the rest of the team is filled out with specialists to bring in high scores on individual events. So yes, they’re competing against each other, but even if they don’t score at the very top, they can still make the team :)
Congratulations Ladies!! Way to Go!! Stay Strong, Focused & Determined and go get that victory for Paris! We’ve got the BEST OF THE BEST representing the USA, now it’s time to show the world what you got! Wwhhhoooaaahhh!!!!!! ♥️🤍💙💋🇺🇸🏆☝🏻
I’m really rooting for her to make the team! She has the skills and even has room to upgrade. In my opinion, she will definitely make it to Paris. The only uncertainty is if she’ll be on the team or a traveling alternate.
No, the road to Paris ends with these ladies here. There is an option to petition to trials, but I don’t think Gabby meets the criteria. She did say she might make a run for 2028, so the door is wide open.
@@spazkaz8585 2028? She'll be like 32 yrs old by then. The talent I saw out there for the younger ones was insane not to the mention the ones that will appear by then. It was a nice thought Gabby but may this was too lofty of a goal to complete or she waited to late to start training. Maybe she'll be a coach somewhere.
I’m not in the business of suggesting people not do what they enjoy. She missed gym and also realized she wasn’t that young girl from 2012 and if she wants to dedicate an oly quad to testing her potential who are me to say that she shouldn’t?
Dawes was never underrated, she was one of the top gymnasts of her era and was national champion in 94 winning every single event during an era where Shannon and Zmeskal were dominant, she would have won the worlds in 94 and 95 had she not fallen on vault, she also had a chance at the Olympic AA championship in 96 had she not fallen on floor. I don’t remember her ever being overlooked. Unfortunately her mistakes at major championships held her back from winning but she was always recognized as one of the greats and still is.
@@justlina2769 she actually had a really great looking bars and beam set- in comparison to several others. Her vault I didn’t really see much of, and her floor wasn’t half bad. I noted “a shot,” not necessarily that she was a lock for the team. It would certainly have been nice to see her at least make the Olympic trials, but I don’t think at this point it’ll ever happen.
The us has such depth. They are going to be hard to beat in ladies. Bikes could fall twice and still win. Sunisa Lee defending oly champ might not mske the team
I appreciate that we now live in the 🏆”Everybody gets a participation trophy”🏆 era, but how many athletes is Team USA allowed to bring to Paris to actually compete???
5 women get to go to Paris. Not everyone gets a participation trophy. These were the women who were chosen at the national championships to go on to the Olympic Trials. Not everyone who competed at the Championships made the National Team, and qualified for the Olympic Trials. To use a football analogy, it is like how only a certain number of teams make it to the playoffs from the original 32, but only 2 make it to the Super Bowl.
@@georgiasmith7615. The “Trials” before the official Olympic Trials. Thank you for explaining. Kind of like the NFL Combine Workout. Not every athlete gets invited to it, and not every athlete there gets drafted during the NFL draft.
To be invited to the National Championships you have to either have been selected for the previous year’s World Championship team or achieve a minimum score, think it is 51.0 in the all around at preliminary competitions.
They work try all season to qualify for the US championship, then from there, 12 people get to go to trials. Some people have a strong enough track record to petition for a spot on the team without competing in the US due to injury or illness. 5 people will make the Olympic team with about 3 alternates. 2 people are pretty much a lock assuming they stay healthy (knock on wood). Then they have to fill the team with 3 more people who they think will achieve the best scores. Unlike in, say, 1996, where they dropped the lowest scores and many people performed each apparatus, 3 gymnasts will go on each apparatus, and they’re score will count, so the selection committee will be looking for specialists. Far from “everybody gets a trophy”, US Women’s gymnastics is DEEP, and some very talented, deserving gymnasts will not make the Olympic team. Individual gold medalists from the last Olympics may not make this team. One of the handful of lesser known gymnasts may peak at the right time and surprise us. It appears that one person from the past world championship team did not even make trials. This is going to be brutal. I’ve been devastated for the people who won’t make it since, like, October.
Wait until they see the othe gymnasts in other countries. America has gotten used to mediocrity. Those routines were c+ at best. Except Simone she's going to have to do better too. Good luck
Last Olympics they said the same thing and they won...America always select a powerful team...they did it for the past few years and won so the selectors knows what they are doing
Simone literally has points, not tenths above the rest of the competition in the world. No other woman in the world has a 7.1 start value on floor. She was literally the World Champion last year & has won her 9th Championship title. Suni Lee currently has the highest start value on Beam. And they still won the Silver Team medal without their key-player Simone at last year’s Olympics. Let’s not do this lol. The rest of the world is looking good, the Americans are still dominant.
I’m pretty sure the coaches & managers of every competing country have studied what the other countries gymnasts are doing and learning from each other. I’m sure they are aware of improvements in the other teams. All these countries including the USA are sending excellent teams. The competition between the countries will all be close - the difference just a mere few points. So NO the USA team is NOT mediocre compared to other countries’ teams. All have improved and all major competitors are excellent.
Congratulations! So happy for such extraordinarily talented ladies. We are rooting for you from the USA.
