Aww I remember this game! Nebraska finally beats Oklahoma in the regular season and due to their loss to Missouri the next week , the Orange bowl rematched them

Thomas Lott wore a scarf or bandana under his helmet every game. When I was playing football n my younger days n Oklahoma, we would wear a scarf or bandana like Thomas Lott. I b-lieve that were Deion Sanders got wearing a bandana from was Thomas Lott.

Billy Sims was one the greatest running back talents of all-time, period. Should’ve been a two time Heisman winner, and had all the makings of a HOF NFL running back if it wasn’t for injuries.

My dad took me to the regular season game- my first ever Husker game. I love watching these two teams run the option. Billy Sims was sensational, Rick Berns ran so hard, but there has never been a greater name in college football than I.M. Hipp!!!

This game featured two future Miami Dolphin (Nebraska FB Andra Franklin / Oklahoma K Uwe von Schamman) players who would play many games on this field in the 80s

What the hell? Nebraska would get a big play and penalty. Another big gainer and a penalty. Getting frustrated watching this even if it was 44 years ago.

  • @jeffreyk5734

Man, missed two field goals or we could have beaten the Sooners again. Not to mention crazy penalties killing drives.

Need to show the phone call in which the Orange Bowl representative invited both OU and Nebraska for a rematch. Switzer accepted, Nebraska coach Tom Osborne and athletic director Bob Devaney were hesitant in accepting. Because they were scared of meeting OU again.

The halftime show was a salute to the entertainment phenomenon, disco, which would literally crash and burn that summer at Chicago's Comiskey Park. One of the sponsors on NBC was National Airlines, Florida's hometown airline seen by Europeans as a superb international airline, but sold by year's end to another superb international airline with Miami roots, Pan Am. NBC was plugging itself as home of the 1980 Moscow Olympics, but Jimmy Carter and the Red Army would throw a wrench in those plans.

After finally beating the Sooners in Lincoln, Nebraska running back Rick Berns bragged that he could now speed through Oklahoma and not get a ticket. Days later Oklahoma was chosen as their opponent in the Orange bowl and the Cornhuskers were not happy.

This game was SWEET REVENGE for the Sooners who had that ONE loss against Nebraska in Lincoln earlier that year! Yet another National Championship eluded Oklahoma that year! It was so unusual that they met twice in a year!

It really seemed improbable Nebraska would beat Oklahoma twice. It was surprising to see the beat Sooners once

  • @jeffreyk5734

Jeez, last play of the half Frank Lockett was wide open streaking down the sideline and it's over- thrown and picked off.

  • @bst6791

I'll never forget the look on Dr Tom's face when he got the call informing him they were going to have to play OU again, lol. The win in Lincoln was his first against OU/Switzer. Dr Tom ended up 5-12 against Switzer, lol. Boomer Sooner!!
