the game of the century was the last time nebraska would win against oklahoma until the game in lincoln in 78. man what games these were!

Of course, the Orange Bowl was sure Nebraska would win the Big 8, so they went ahead and invited Nebraska before this game. As a result of this game, OU owned the conf. tiebreaker, but went to the Sugar Bowl to beat Penn State. Their final TV appearance until the Orange Bowl on 1/1/76. Most of the world didn't get to see much of those great 73, 74 and 75 OU teams, which had a collective record of 32-1-1.

#43 for Oklahoma 3-time All-American LB Rod Shoate. And LOL Rich Glover Nebraska nose tackle was an absolute force of nature in the middle and I think he weighed all of 235 pounds.

@@jobu88 To me it was one of the greatest eras of college football. It was before conference realignment, playoffs and all the other stuff the NCAA has done since then. The linemen were big but not supermen and all juiced up like many are today, and I think they had to be a bit more athletic. to b in the offenses of that day. Greg Pruitt is as good as I ever saw running the ball. Jack Mildren could do it all. Joe Wylie, who was Big 8 Sophomore of the Year and a Big 8 440 yd track champion, was better than Pruitt until he had an ankle injury his junior year. He was never quite the same. As Barry Switzer used to say, we "out-athleted" them.

@@slundgr Mildren, Wylie and Pruitt are the three names I remember the most, then the 74 team is the first team that I remember specific games and plays and the course of the season from start to finish, I was 10 in 1974.

I'd rather watch replays of these old wishbone games than today's flag football pass happy game featuring fat slob offensive linemen holding like crazy. In these games the linemen had the same physiques as the running backs and were all- -round athletes, not sumo wrestlers. The only difference was they were taller.

He has a pleasant voice, but his play calling was awful. Half of the time he couldn't tell who had the ball, or he wasn't paying attention to his spotters who would point to the name of the player carrying the ball or the intended receiver as each play developed. He was even worse as the studio host at the Olympics.
