Brother, I actually got to know you more through and after you talk with Comrade Tariq Ali - whom I am reading religiously, and listening to as much as I could to make myself well-informed about the global current affairs. Worth to listen this interview
I enjoyed the podcast. I also believe we in Pakistan need to shed these labels because the labels prevent us from having conversations we need to have across the political divide. Speaking as a left leaning person, I also believe we need to acknowledge the issues from left wing circles as well. Left wing parties and left wing politics in general has been apologetic about India which has strengthened right wing politics in this country. Bhutto sahab himself cowered to extremists on the Ahmedi question resulting in their persecution. He did not stand his ground. Ahmedis did not curse this country or demand India to invade it, yet they were persecuted. That was a left leaning cause that the political left abandoned. Today, the same people praise PTM despite PTMs shady history.
Even in the 80s, you couldn't raise the Pakistani or Kashmiri flag in India despite it not being a right wing hub as it is today. In Pakistan, left wing parties demand from the people to support a movement which has leaders that are 1)Afghan 2) have called for the destruction of the state 3) have called for the release of shady characters such as 2 men who later committed suicide attacks. That distinction needs to be made. I cannot, in good faith, support any cause that calls for the destruction of Pakistan. If that's what left wing politics has come to in this country, then I'll not associate with it. Some of my ancestors migrated from India and we have oral histories from my grandparent's generation that narrated to us the horrors of pre partition India. The humiliation, the hierarchical casteism, the rabid and overt Islamophobia that is never mentioned. RSS wrote its Islamophobic manual long before 1947. They declared Christians and Muslims enemies of India long before even the concept of Pakistan existed. They had decided they would strip Muslims and Christians off the right to vote and they have to convert to Hinduism to gain acceptance before Pakistan. The fact that we just assume that staying in a unified India would have been better for Muslims is laughable. India, despite partition, has not acknowledged and recognized its Islamophobic past which is why it still grapples with regular lynchings of Muslims and pogroms, if you think without the partition, they would have been any less Islamophobic, then you're delusional.
1) Why someone would want to raise a Pakistani flag in India?
2) What humiliation?
3) Why RSS consider Christians and Muslims as enemies of India?
4) Then why RSS made Abdul Kalam a Muslim, President of India? Why many Indian Muslims and Christians join RSS?
5) How many Hindus Pakistan made as President, Army Chief etc? Can you tell what is the criteria to become Presiden of Pakistan?
6) Why Indian Muslims stayed in India, then or staying in India?
7) If there are regular lynchings of Muslims and pogroms in India then why Indian Muslims population has increased?
8) How many relatives of you are Kafirs?
This is the thing! Why Pakistan needs india to see its own image! Be on your own. Let Kashmiris decide their fate. India is nothing of sort you are made to believe. In a country of billion if 3 guys are lynched that's not systematic not that happens. Its same as lightening strike killing someone.
A country lost half land, went to twice per capita to half per capita compared to india. With this narrative. Even after that you want double down on this. If its not clear to you yet then just wait for few years and you will see Indian Kashmir will have better per capita income and quality of life.
Have you guys work to the extent india worked on cast discrimination. None of your channels ever say what lower cast gets in india. Do you know 50% govt jobs and educational seats are reserved for them. They have strong laws against untouchability.
The only reason you people believe this because this has been systematically inculcated through narrative and propaganda. Reality is different.
Very true Sir , 1958 Martial Law: the United States was scared that the Anti-West National Awami Party would come to Power if general elections were allowed to be held . In East Pakistan NAP would have come with a thumping majority!

I remember listening Mr. Tariq's speech in Hide Park, London. He is one of the best. He is considered a " superman " in South America. I have a question for Dr. Ali. Why don't you spend some time in Pakistan, give some advice to Imran Khan. I loved a movie " South of the border " story written by Dr. Ali.
Wise men like Dr. Ali should lend his hand to Pakistani people. We need a intellectual like him. Sadly the illiterates from the Imran Khan will drive him out. Still He owe us this favor. After all he is the son of Pakistan.
A true witness to history especially of Pakistan. One may agree or disagree with his politics but his honesty is very apparent. A living treasure trove of stories behind the scenes.

An excellent talk. I listened to it on podcast, a number of new things to learn. He really is a gem. I have a request here, kindly do a podcast on what happened in then NWFP now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa pre and post 1947. There are a number of claims both from the right and left wings and the new generation needs to know what really happened.
NWFP always voted in the majority or only Muslim who voted by large to stay with unified India and opposed partition in 1946 election. They used to call themselves secular and opposed Jinnah that a Muslim girl cannot marry a non-Muslim. They used to give their daughter to Sikhs and Hindu for marriage and vice-versa.
Jinnah was not happy with the border discussion that he had or got from Mountbatten and called that as Moth-Eaten (he got only Sindh, half Punjab and Half Bengal).
Nehru or Congress decided to give NWFP and Balochistan to Pakistan also with a maximum of 25% of land as per the Muslim population.
Abdul Ghaffar Khan called Gandhi and congress and said that you are throwing us to foxes (Punjabi Muslims). Nehru asked Abdul Ghaffar Khan to a boycotted referendum so that NWFP can vote for Pakistan and Pakistan can win the referendum.

Some people never learn, but good is Tariq Ali he learns. The intervieweis still crying over creation of Pakistan but forgot that in 71 Bangalis still found themselves to better off being a separate country than India. Although they both were together then.

Also in the subcontinent, Pakistan is having maximum resources per capita. Pakistan has taken all the resources for East Pakistan and spend on Army, Islamabad and Kashmir war.
Pakistan is only able to survive because of continuous Aid from western countries.
I don’t know where I heard it but the famous last words of Kissinger to Bhutto “when you see a train coming, just get out of the way”. Bhutto just didn’t get out of the way.
