Solar Field's music in the game is one of the biggest reasons why I am so hyped for Mirror's Edge Catalyst! The music I've heard so far is just so good. I want to cry.
+GrizzlyRed What sucks though, is that Solar Field's other music sounds nothing like ME's soundtracks. As I was hoping to find more music which sounds like it.
Mirror's Edge was one of my favorite games of all time Maybe it's a bad idea for me to put so much faith in EA, but this is probably my most anticipated game of 2016
I like the whole idea of the players actions affecting the music, if it's what the audio director is saying, then I'm pretty hyped, just about that one little feature.
Man, I can't wait for this. Mirror's Edge is still the only game where I actually did speedruns because they were so much fun, unlike every other game to me. So I can't wait to see how they improved upon that masterpiece.
+sebbe44441 Mirror's Edge speedruns were the shizz; and I totally agree with how fun it was to speed through it. When this game comes out, I'll definitely look forward to just running through it. :)
I was never competitively good at ME speedruns (only managed a little over 20 minutes over the WR even on a good run), but they were fun to learn and I sure as hell wanna give this game a go. ...although, I tried speedrunning it recently and each failure or loss of time really dug into me. I'm hoping somehow Catalyst won't have that same effect :P
spoot Don't get me wrong, I wasn't GOOD at speedrunning either. I didn't record it or even measure the time But the drive to learn all those speedrunning techniques was there, and that's usually not how I play my games at all. I like to take my time, take in the environment, discover everything, etc.
sebbe44441 IKR. I'm torn. I want to join in Catalyst speedrunning relatively early, but at the same time I want to enjoy the experience to the fullest. We *have* been waiting a long time.
TheLangeLange If they fuck this game up, I'm done buying their games and I'm already a person who rarely buys their games. Mass Effect 4? Fuck it. Battlefield 5? Fuck it. New Star Wars? Fuck it sideways.
And it turned out to be a lie. The ONLY time your movement affects the music is when you're using the grapple hook, and even then it simply makes the music quiet when you swing at max speed.
I have been waiting since Nov 2008 approximately 8 hours after I finished the campaign for this game, as of right now I have over 1600 hours logged onto my mirrors edge time count through my xbox 360, I also hold #13th in world record fastest completion of the game. you say you can't wait? I cried when I sat down during the LIVE EA conference in San Diego in 2013 and Solar Fields began to play, words cannot describe how fucking READY I am for this beta and game. Show less
You're gonna be disappointed. I somehow know they're gonna fuck it up. Maybe it's gonna be like AC and consist mainly of really boring side missions, or what my biggest fear is, that the game will be no challenge at all. ME was a challenging game, at least the first few times you played through it, and what that one Guy said " we don't want to challenge you with the moves" seems like they're gonna simplifie the game play to being "press a button every five seconds". For the "Runners flow" in the first game, you had to work your way up there, you had to know the timing on each move correctly, you had to get the mindset of a true runner, to be able to get good times on those tracks. Oh, and it's published by EA right? So what could go wrong..
+Citrus BrittleCrisp That's it ?. Just 13th?. You brought shame to our kind :( .. Traitor ! Go squirrel your self !! Seriously though , i hope they don't simplify it. I am tired of simple games. I want deep games where i learn how to play to the point where the game feels different after i become a pro. You can simplify the instructions , make modes for noobs if you want but give us our option.. Anyway , i am so excited , been wishing for mirror's edge since last gen. So far it looks interesting , i am holding my breath in hype for my own good. So hopefully they surprise me :P..
+MsNero05 True what you said about ME being a nicely challenging game. But come on, let's not keep our heads down before the game is even released. And wasn't the first one published by EA too?
+MsNero05 I have played the game at last years Comic Con, stood in que for well over 3 hours... And oh my was it worth the wait. It felt just like how i imagined it and im sure you wont be dissapointed, i felt right at home! Its just better and more fluid, but not simplified. I have faith in this game...
+TheReactiveGamer It was the same way with Battlefront and Battlefield Hardline.. Both looked good in previews and interviews but then it released to public...
Glad you add Solar Fields tracks to the game, i still remember climbing that construction site listening 'Kate - Puzzle' soundtrack, it was magical. I'm glad you actually kept "your flow" and don't change the games 180º like some game creators do...and they ruin it. Good work! Don't rush, we will be waiting :)
Oh, man I am super excited! So glad Solar Fields is back! Their clean electronic music added a lot to the atmosphere of the first game. I listen to that soundtrack somewhat regularly still.
I'm not a fan of large open world games. Once the main story is over, it's just a bunch of stuff. Not a fan of that. It bores me. Mirror's Edge is different. Why? Atmosphere. It's one of the few world's I want to simply be in. The music, the sounds, the art, it all culminates into to an environment I can zone out and just, be in. Run around, jump, play, and relax. I train parkour as well and the world they made is a dream come true for any practitioner of any skill level. This is why Mirror's Edge is so special, for me at least.

I would have thought in a linear game you finish the story and you've seen everything whereas at least in a n open world game you finish it and there's still exploring or fighting to do despite no longer having a clear objective.
+Halcyon No problem! It took me a while to figure it out but there are 2 main reasons. 1)When you have a lot of side quests with the main story, I couldn't care any less. My focus is on saving the world, not helping Mr. Widdlebiscuit with his taxes. 2) Once the main story is over, this is where it's a more personal reaction, I'm satisfied. The world I'm in is no longer engaging. Borderlands, Skyrim, Assassins Creed, Fallout, once the story is over, I find myself wanting to do other things besides play that game. If the side quests helped with the progression of the story further, that's different, but most of the time, it's simply to help make the world seem more alive. Just stuff to do. None of those worlds are ones that I wish to get lost in. The only time that's happened was with the Bioshock and Halo games, and Mirrors Edge. I'd play these games over and over again because I just wanted to be there. There is nothing wrong at all with the open world concept and games, and I definitely see the attraction, I'm just a bit odd with it. I guess it's the worlds atmospheres and environments. I love the story's and overall gameplay, but beyond that, they never grabbed me and let me escape. Hope that makes sense :)
necroing this after 4 years but sunset overdrive is the same way for me it has a much, much different vibe than mirror's edge, but god damn is that an entertaining world to be in
Thank you, DICE. I very rarely get excited for games, but mirrors edge has a special place in my high school aged heart ever since I first played that game all those years ago. Thank you for the goosebumps and chills you've just sent down my spine.
Fantastic. God, I can't wait for this. REALLY happy DICE brought Solar Fields back for the music in Catalyst. Their music was one of the things I absolutely loved about the original game. But what about Lisa Miskovsky? DICE needs to bring her back, too. Loved "Still Alive".
+Henry Rahardja I have The Division, it is a very fun game if you play it with friends, really. But if you have a short budget, then you did good. My two most anticipated games are Mirror´s Edge and Dishonored 2. Can´t wait till May.
+Henry Rahardja I bought The Division and I will say the game is a lot of fun. great solid shooting mechanics with a great cover system. The problem I see is once I reach max rank I don't feel like there will be much point in playing it anymore.
The dynamic Music is a great idea! Makes getting a flow even more rewarding. Just imagine running around in the city doing some crazy manouver and the Music just gets super epic. I can't wait for this, I've been waiting on this for years. And in just two months time, I'll be able to get my hands on this masterpiece!
They are making Mirror's Edge Catalyst an open world/free roam game. Finally. I went through ME's story so many times, just because I wanted to play, for the free running, because it felt good and responsive. It's like a driving game (if it has a good driving model that you enjoy), even when you're done doing all the races and doing everything there was to do, you're still gonna go back to that game because it just feels good to drive around. Replay-ability! That's what I want out of this game. I think the movement feel will be a mix of ME and Dying Light. It'll be more fast paced and responsive like Dying Light but smoother and less arcady than Dying Light. Like a more fast paced and responsive version of ME. It's Frostbite, BF4 runs maxed out on my i5, GTX960, and 8GB RAM, over 100FPS most of the time. I hope MECatalyst is also that optimized. And I hope it's not a buggy piece of shit. I just don't want to be disappointed again.
+NarkDights | Hexthrill I can tell you it at least won't be buggy as shit. EA took a big hit after the BF4 launch, and since then every frostbite game has launched perfectly with little to no bugs and good optimization. Hardline and Battlefront are good examples of this. I'm not even worried about the launch of Battlefield 1.
morgatron4639 That's a really good point, nice thinking, although this is a really big open world, so there's more "opportunities" for bugs. Either way I'm sure we'll get patches and all :)
+Crystal de Swardt I really don't want to be hyped tho It's ea, I'm willing to give them a benefit of a doubt, but so far they've been letting people down
If you've got the music right, you've got the game right. Getting Solar Fields back was a massive step in the right direction; and if the Audio Director is being literal about the music's transformation through action and inaction, that's another step. Looking forward to this. Can't wait to actually see this (previously) backdrop utopia up close. Guess I'll just keep listening to Shard for 2 months.
Love that the music changes with what you're doing so well. Helps the game's flow, which was the alst game's biggest strength, when everything just worked together and was fluid.
Just picking things: The low poly circular thing at 00:52 looks a bit out of place while the rest of the world looks so detailed and expensive. I'm not a graphics kinda person but that's just really strange. If it's a performance issue, might as well make it square or octagonal. Faith looked really cute in that 2:21 hug btw.
First off I'd like to say that I would love it if you guys did more Developer Diaries! Secondly, I'm 100% looking forward to exploring this new world. You guys did an honest to goodness, beautiful job on the environment and game mechanics. It all looks well worth the effort!!
Funny to think the first mirrors edge and assassins creed is what inspired me to start doing parkour Running my self. been doing it 8 years now and don't plan to stop anytime soon. so i thank the people that made this game and the Assassins creed games for helping me find my Passion in life
So this switch in style sounds very similar to the way they switched Splinter Cell and it's gameplay in Conviction. I really hope it isn't easy mode but I'm feeling that it is.
I have been waiting for this game since i was 9 years old (2008) and I can tell you right now, my expectasions were met way beyond what i hoped for. And now am 17 as of this year and studying to become a concept artist and game developer myself and I cant wait to play this game!
I played the first game three years ago. Loved it. Recently bought it again and have played it so much. Can't wait for the new mirror's edge. I was terrible at the game when I first got it yet playing it again at 13 years of age, I have somehow improved so much. Managed to speed run every level and got under the target times.
Ahhhhh feels like I've been waiting forever for this to come out! So close now.... it comes out 6 days after my birthday so I'm definitely going to buy it. Also, that's so cool how the music adjusts itself to your actions in the game.
Badger Company as long as it sounds good I don't mind although it would be cool to have an option on that part too. I guess that's when you turn the music off and play the sound track you want :-P
The first announcement of MEC got me interested in Parkour. Now after I've started with my training and done my very first Parkour moves I even more hyped for this game. And every bit of new gameplay keeps me motivated to train and lern new sets of movement. So real life Parkour and this game have a kind of symbiotically relationship for me :-)
+MinimumSix If I could only pick one game the entire year then i'm definitely picking DOOM. Then Deus Ex, then Persona 5, then Shin Megami Tensei IV Final, then this.
+Ethos Fuck you doing here, man?! Anyway, you shouldn't really be saying EA, DICE is more reasonable. But hey, EA can take a big slap in the face of shit if Mass Effect and that Visceral SWs game is ass, amiright?! Have some Faith.
More running. Yes. I hope that the feeling of "flow", ambience, graphic style and plot gives me the same immerse as first ME. I hope that repeatable mission won't bore me and I will want more.
+jenny alexander i think i heard something with the open world is/can be influenced by other players so i guess there will be a idea from a constant online open world. about the gadgets, for one part, it kinda ruins the whole free-running/parcour element (which essentialy means getting from A to B without any gadgeds besides your body). i can imagine tho that a (for example) grappling-hook would let you move even more free, which is a definitive + in my book
I really hope it's not going to turn into the Far Cry 3 gameplay model, which was based on Assassing Creed.. Collect stuff, that does nothing, deliver stuff that has no impact on the plot, save cardboard npcs for 'good boy' points etc..
+BoilingJD it doesn't look like there will be customization, it looks like you will have all the tools or skills from the start and then just a lot to do with it so i think it will be a perfect game imo
If you aren't hyped, you are surely broken inside. That music hits me so hard. This game is what I've been waiting for since the end of the first. I'm ready. I'm ready. I'm ready.
I really LOVE music that adapts to what is happening. That was one of the best parts of games like Red Alert 3 for me. I still listen to some of the RA3 tracks. Really glad you are implementing it into this game, can't wait! HYPE!
Will i be able to run Mirror’s Edge Catalyst? Please :( Pentium II 400Mhz 256 MB Ram Windows 98 15GB HDD Nvidia Geforce 128MB 120W PSU I will buy an SSD if needed or even a more powerfull PSU... :(
you probably wouldn't be able to run the first game, sorry. But hey mabye if you save up some money for a bit you will be able to buy a capable pc to run it :)
I read something about this game having third person finishers, which I really hope is bullshit. If they are in the game, I surely hope that you can turn them off, because nothing breaks the flow and immersion more than a fucking third person finisher.
+nickEDITS I can't say how much I'm disappointed with the devs for building it in, but defeating the last enemy in an area will trigger a third-person cinematic combat finisher... Heard it in one of the videos or read it on the website somewhere, can't remember. I can only agree with Lord Spade and hope you can turn it off. *I hope you heard us, DICE!*
the parkour looks amazing imagine running with flow and the music. I would expect them to release the beta on spring break and last till the release date
This is the Mirror's Edge game we should've gotten back in 2008. And I bet I won't be nearly as excited for this once EA releases the PC system requirements.
+gousaid67 where'd you get that info? I've been keeping a close eye on this game for the past 1,5 years and I haven't heard anything about system requirements... they never answer the question on the fb page either, all they say is they'll share the info in due time
+gousaid67 system requirements will be similar to those in battlefield 4 since they are made in the same game engine. They might be lower or higher depending on the FX, model quality etc. I expect a lot of ram needed to run the game with no loadscreens.
It's sounds like they haven't fucked it up. They removed gun play and focused the game more around freedom and movement. The only way this can be fucked up is if EA makes a season pass or some more bullshit DLC things they usually do
***** I mean freedom as in movement. Most people did NOT like the gunplay in the first game. Lets be honest, the gunplay was terrible in the game. The focus of mirror's edge is the momentum and speed. The guns just slowed you down and are not fun to use in the first place
The score for this series is just astonishing.
Will they release the soundtrack ?
Holly shit....it's azerz !!
Facts they need to make another one

welp, 3 years later and looking back i can safely say...
they brought it back just to kill it.
TF150Gaming you're boring
Who remembers the feeling of being too scared to turn around when being chased by the pursuit cops in the first game?
The only reason I didn't turn around was because I didn't want to lose my speed
yep
The worst part was that you could hear their footsteps behind you...
Until I learned that you could trick them into doing a jumping kick, circle behind them and shock them in the chest with their own taser.
robo4evar SAME
All I needed to hear was that solar fields is back! (I hope there's a nod or two to some of the songs from the first game!)
+IDidSawABear Me too!!!!!!!

I can't wait for this, I've been waiting on this for years. And in just two months time, I'll be able to get my hands on this masterpiece!
PLEASE dear god! Let the city be big and make the city feel like it's really alive!
May 10th Uncharted 4 and May 24th Mirror's Edge Catalyst!
dont forget doom
Great month for games
Been waiting since 1st June 2013. The hype is getting out of control lemme tell ya.. can't wait
DICE, you are all doing a phenomenal job. This looks and sounds absolutely amazing, and I cannot wait to dive back into this world.
The more you keep posting about mirrors edge the more hyped I get...
+TheJuanAndOnly That's the point LOL
+Crystal de Swardt I really don't want to be hyped tho
It's ea, I'm willing to give them a benefit of a doubt, but so far they've been letting people down
Overwatch and Mirror's Edge, damn both on the same day...
I lost my shit when I heard free roaming.. Wasn't even expecting that, the last one was already a masterpiece but that is just AWESOME.
Its still the pre-alpha gameplay footage i pretend.. And theres going to be a beta version out soon.. cant wait to check all these features
First off I'd like to say that I would love it if you guys did more Developer Diaries!
Secondly, I'm 100% looking forward to exploring this new world. You guys did an honest to goodness, beautiful job on the environment and game mechanics. It all looks well worth the effort!!
Just preordered this game last night over the PSN Store. No way in hell I'll end up regretting it!
***** Won't be what?
Mirror's Edge with a dynamic soundtrack? YES PLEASE
Looks outstanding!
So glad Solar Fields is back.
I've been waiting almost 10 YEARS for this!!
Bloody goosebumps all the way..
I REALLY hope that player/object motion blur is togglable on PC cause it looks absolutely horrible.
sooo geting this game when it comes out still the love playing the first game
For all veteran Mirrors edge fans and new ones, I just have one thing to say "All you need is Faith and the Flow." So ready and Hyped for this Beta.😊
the sound effects are so good
Good? Obviously you weren't wearing any high-quality headphones, I would want to buy the game just to listen to it.
DJ Programer I have audio technica m8
DJ Programer alright the sound effects are fucking gorgeous
1boompje
That's more like it.
Ahhhhh feels like I've been waiting forever for this to come out! So close now.... it comes out 6 days after my birthday so I'm definitely going to buy it. Also, that's so cool how the music adjusts itself to your actions in the game.
Will Lisa Miskovsky be back :)
That music responsive thing is friggin awesome. the next big thing!
Technically that's been around for a while, music changes upon certain events
no doubt your right.
Badger Company as long as it sounds good I don't mind although it would be cool to have an option on that part too. I guess that's when you turn the music off and play the sound track you want :-P
It's idea's like that, that makes a good game.
it's so beautiful X'D I cry
The first announcement of MEC got me interested in Parkour. Now after I've started with my training and done my very first Parkour moves I even more hyped for this game.
And every bit of new gameplay keeps me motivated to train and lern new sets of movement. So real life Parkour and this game have a kind of symbiotically relationship for me :-)
Please film Magnus himself
He's a genius
this is exactly how i wanted it to turn out. now that we have enough footage to compare, it's looking very good.
DOOM 4, ME Catalyst and No Man's Sky all within one month of each other, get your wallets ready boys.
+MinimumSix If I could only pick one game the entire year then i'm definitely picking DOOM. Then Deus Ex, then Persona 5, then Shin Megami Tensei IV Final, then this.
+MinimumSix This is amazing, so fucking amazing
I wasn't aware that this was going to be a free roam! Holy crap, even more excited.
Strike 1 ea was battlefront. Don't fuck this up or that will be strike 2.
+Ethos swbf was strike two. Hardline was strike one.
meh battlefield took an L since BF4
Ethos I guess so...
+Ethos Fuck you doing here, man?! Anyway, you shouldn't really be saying EA, DICE is more reasonable. But hey, EA can take a big slap in the face of shit if Mass Effect and that Visceral SWs game is ass, amiright?! Have some Faith.
GameRazor247 Ahh faith how twisted art thee.
Oh my gosh the way they manipulate the soundtrack to interact with your actions is DOPE AF
Every Thing is Beauuuuutiful !!!! Love Mirror's edge !!!!
Me too,i have played the first.
More running. Yes. I hope that the feeling of "flow", ambience, graphic style and plot gives me the same immerse as first ME. I hope that repeatable mission won't bore me and I will want more.
Me too
if this is a crap game is going to fucking hunt down dice
Yep going to kill them if it's not good heard there's multiplayer and there's gadgets
+jenny alexander i think i heard something with the open world is/can be influenced by other players so i guess there will be a idea from a constant online open world. about the gadgets, for one part, it kinda ruins the whole free-running/parcour element (which essentialy means getting from A to B without any gadgeds besides your body). i can imagine tho that a (for example) grappling-hook would let you move even more free, which is a definitive + in my book
it's such an honest, astounding, and wonderful game. I am proudly emotional about it.
This might be game of the year for me!
indeed! for me too
the music changes when you stop or start running, thats so fucking cool, cant wait.
Can y’all make another mirrors edge
That thumbnail was badass
I really hope it's not going to turn into the Far Cry 3 gameplay model, which was based on Assassing Creed.. Collect stuff, that does nothing, deliver stuff that has no impact on the plot, save cardboard npcs for 'good boy' points etc..
That'd still be fun
+BoilingJD it doesn't look like there will be customization, it looks like you will have all the tools or skills from the start and then just a lot to do with it
so i think it will be a perfect game imo
Tristan Fera Don't think that's what he meant..
omg guys, that part about music was absolutely brilliant! Can't freaking wait!
Ok I'm gonna buy it.
This is the only game I will ever play where I will enjoy delivery missions. I will do them dozens of times as long as I get to explore this city.
Take my money.
If you aren't hyped, you are surely broken inside. That music hits me so hard. This game is what I've been waiting for since the end of the first. I'm ready. I'm ready. I'm ready.
I love You Dice I love You EA
+AbuClaib -l I love you DICE I hate you EA.
+Keavon Chambers yes
Some really cool ideas here. Especially the responsive soundtrack. Awesome work!
I'M FUCKING CRYINNNNGGGGG IT LOOKS SO AMAZING
I loved everything about the original game, even the DLC. Oh man, dat DLC. Thank you for this, DICE and EA.
Don't mind me, just a Mirror's Edge fanboy who has Faith's tattoo passing through
I really LOVE music that adapts to what is happening. That was one of the best parts of games like Red Alert 3 for me. I still listen to some of the RA3 tracks. Really glad you are implementing it into this game, can't wait! HYPE!
Will i be able to run Mirror’s Edge Catalyst? Please :(
Pentium II 400Mhz
256 MB Ram
Windows 98
15GB HDD
Nvidia Geforce 128MB
120W PSU
I will buy an SSD if needed or even a more powerfull PSU... :(
+MrDroonix lol no !!!!
you probably wouldn't be able to run the first game, sorry. But hey mabye if you save up some money for a bit you will be able to buy a capable pc to run it :)
VisionedFour 21 heyy , do you play destiny ?
Jahvel Star Andriod 18.6 I used to play alot on my xb1 but now I'm on pc.
+VisionedFour 21 +Jahvel Star Andriod 18.6
whoosh
Really loving the open world and music changing based on how you move
I read something about this game having third person finishers, which I really hope is bullshit. If they are in the game, I surely hope that you can turn them off, because nothing breaks the flow and immersion more than a fucking third person finisher.
+Lord Spade There is not third person while you are playing as Faith.
there u have it, thank u based Simon
+Trevor Brosiedon praise based simon
+nickEDITS I can't say how much I'm disappointed with the devs for building it in, but defeating the last enemy in an area will trigger a third-person cinematic combat finisher... Heard it in one of the videos or read it on the website somewhere, can't remember. I can only agree with Lord Spade and hope you can turn it off.
*I hope you heard us, DICE!*
+Lord Spade Actually there won't be third person finishers and they just want to show us like how she can do that in third person.
the parkour looks amazing imagine running with flow and the music. I would expect them to release the beta on spring break and last till the release date
Sounds like a good speedrun game. I am very excited for this one, lets hope dice doesnt disappoint...
And was that a robocup reference at the end?? ;)
IM THROWING MONEY AT MY SCREEN BUT ITS NOT DOING ANYTHING WHY
+stuartrockin SAME
+stuartrockin because you're doing it wrong. You should throw it to me and then you will see something happening.
You will see the money disappear.
+Stuartrockin Your saying what We're all thinking😆
+Hans Roes can I join too? I want to do the money magic trick as well.
Look kids. I make your parents money disappear and make a new car appear. Woah.
This is the Mirror's Edge game we should've gotten back in 2008. And I bet I won't be nearly as excited for this once EA releases the PC system requirements.
dont worry, the minimal gpu required is a gts 260(by dice)
+gousaid67 where'd you get that info? I've been keeping a close eye on this game for the past 1,5 years and I haven't heard anything about system requirements... they never answer the question on the fb page either, all they say is they'll share the info in due time
+Needafire i forgot to mention is a rumor, but there is sites claiming this factor for the minimal settings, after that we are not sure it is true
+gousaid67 system requirements will be similar to those in battlefield 4 since they are made in the same game engine. They might be lower or higher depending on the FX, model quality etc. I expect a lot of ram needed to run the game with no loadscreens.
So many new people on the project (not working on the original title)... hopefully they don't f*ck it up.
Fingers crossed! I'm hyped at the moment.
It's sounds like they haven't fucked it up. They removed gun play and focused the game more around freedom and movement. The only way this can be fucked up is if EA makes a season pass or some more bullshit DLC things they usually do
+Joe Schmoe Hell no it wasn't perfect. But it's huge flaws were covered up by awesome smooth parkour, and and amazing soundtrack!
*****
I mean freedom as in movement. Most people did NOT like the gunplay in the first game. Lets be honest, the gunplay was terrible in the game. The focus of mirror's edge is the momentum and speed. The guns just slowed you down and are not fun to use in the first place
CrazyDrgonRider Agreed. Disarming was epic though imo.
