So fun fact about S-2: All-Imperfect Love Song (the dating sim)
Hakita was more or less suffering from the same thing Mirage was around the time this was written - crippling, will-to-live-draining existential dread. The entire thing could be considered an internal dialogue from Hakita to himself as he fought against his own Nihilistic fears, and while naturally such dread will never simply disappear... You can always fight it, and search for the light in the darkness.
As someone else who suffers with the same thing, the level absolutely clotheslined me in a good way. I've actually got a Mirage pin on the way to remind me that it's okay to deal with that stuff and that there's still good things to come regardless. 💙
Yup. Existential dread had kept me up at night from time to time, ever since I came to learn about our sun's limited life span when I was 10 year old.
The statement of the level is what I hope everyone dealing with existential dread and overall feelings of meaninglessness comes to learn.
Btw I recommend looking up what Wikipedia says about Nihilism and Absurdism! I find them to be intriguing.
Also see the future we could have in the eyes of Deus Ex's third ending, and what the character Morpheus has to say! (a way better ending to the development of AI than what the Terminator movies and similar show us, if you are dealing with that fear)

Ah yes, ultrakill. My favorite action fps-horror-puzzle-visual novel-platforming-fishing sim-cleaning simulator game which has sandcastles as nukes and hampters that can decimate a universe.
you didnt miss many secrets, if at all. however there are many out of bounds tricks that were removed, but the manually added back by the dev for the speedrun community, that each have a little funny message. "What's updoor?" -T. HAKITA. (0-2) "The filth are gone, but the memory remains." -T. HAKITA. (4-3) "Pipe clip lives" -T. HAKITA. (0-1) there are many more but these aer my faves
They were never removed actually. They got reported but Hakita left them in for the speed runners on purpose. But then they kept getting reported, so he slapped the text there so that people would shut up about them already kek

I feel very out of place concerning the puzzle level, because everybody seems to hate it, but I found it quite fun. I enjoy puzzles. Not sure why everybody else seemingly despises that level..

i guess we're both out place, puzzles are some of the most fun parts of gaming in my opinion. hell, portal 2 is my favorite game of all time, and that's a puzzle game.

So a neat little easter egg is the "Frog (?)" in the Fishing Mini game is the creature seen in Iron Lung, which is developed by the dude who made Dusk.
And Iron Lung has "Blood Oceans" so the fact that thing ("Frog") can only be caught in Lower Bloods is a neat detail.

to answer your question about maurice taking less damage from explosions, he actually takes no damage from explosions. completely invulnerable. that's why explosive projectiles bounce off.
To clarify, the puzzle game section is a *direct* parody of the game "The Witness". Hence the name "The Witless". Easily one of the best puzzle games of all time in my opinion, if a bit over-pretentious.

I think the dating sim mission makes sense in the context of the game. Humanity is literally dead there, or at least it's spirit.

It's not, for one single reason :
If you beat it with all crates, you get the crash bandicoot cheat, allowing you to play ALL levels as crash.
It's quite something.

The fact that everyones response to the Dating Sim is "You can't do this to me" is hilarious
idk if chat told you about core nuke yet(didnt see you mention it in either ultrakill vid(also im assuming youve cleared p-1 already so hm)) but basically while shooting the core with a hitscan leads to a bigger explosion, specifically shooting it with a malicious railcannon leads to... more explosive results.
also if you are curious enough there is a 18min video by herbmessiah on coin mechanics, geniunely the reason why i even started playing this game. You should definitely check it out if you want to SSStyle on your enemies

by the way with the s.r.s cannon you can also combo the cebrus easily by standing right next to him in front or back as long as you are facing him. then shoot the cannon full speed and at the same time parry it (you should parry after shooting srs cannon like 1 milisecond
