Thank you Melvin for sharing, I'm 56....just started reviving my old cycling group to start cycling again. Most of us are in our late 50s or early 60s and we started out as breakfast rides. We got a couple of younger cyclists in their early forties to join us to inject more speed and motivation. Have been following you for a couple of years and just want to thank you for the motivational videos.
hard and long cycling can build up cortisol in the body because cycling is rigorous and does take a tole on the body, but cycling can also relaxing and freeing/healing. I suppose balancing cycling with your life and not feeling like you have to ride long miles or hilly rides is important. Conform cycling to your life not the other way around. Focus also on rest/recovery and hydration and eat as healthy as possible. Keep up the good work Melvin. God bless you and your family!
@@melvintanchannel I haven't been allowed to do anything except physio for the last few months. But I've been given the ok to start the indoor trainer for 10 minutes 3 times per week and build up from there after a few weeks. I'm allowed to swim twice a week as well as regular physio
Well said. As far as health is concern, take care of our ownself first, so we can outlive all our family member to take care of them. When I was in my late 30s, doctors keep telling me to lose the excess weight. I ignore those advice. One day when I woke up from bed losing control of my left arm due to unhealthy blood circulation (almost got a stroke), that hits me that the doctor is damn right, I should lose the weight. I did and became more healthy. On the way towards a healthy 50 years old, all my family members follow as they have no other choice if they want to be with me, haha. I cycle daily no matter it's a short, long ride. Just need to move for at least 1 hour a day. Now, my wife and kids cycle with me, sweating out and nurturing some bonding time together.
Age is just a number, last weekend had a bad fall during my ride only to know that recovery is slower wihen you get older to 54 like me. Anyway that doesn't stop me from riding like you. As i always say, ride on and ride safe. See ya on your next ride. Cheers.
I am 44 this year. started road biking only this April. Riding several times a week 30-45km/session. Solo All the way. Training for October's Audax600. Although I have a 'friend' consistently (whose bike costs RM70k++) offered me to join his group, but I declined. Things I am wearing and equipments I am using are entry levels, thus he labelled me 'those cheapskate people'. According to his standard - Any pair of shoes below RM1K is cheapskate. Using Bryton is cheapskate. Helmet below RM1k is cheapskate as well. Bib pants need to be RM800++, or else, that's considered cheapskate too. I wish I have more cycling friends, but for the time being, solo is AWESOME! Can avoid other 'ATAS" riders commenting and deriding my apparels and used bike. At this age, the key is to exercise regularly. I have been following your fabulous videos. THANKS!
Hey bro.... Yea cycling snobs are ever around... I dun mind them but if they call another cyclist cheap or look down is kinda sad.... Though I can afford it I proudly wear monton jersey and bib when I feel like it... I feel monton brings good value compared to rm800 above bib and jersey 😂... If another person wear a rm800 jersey or bib and stare down at me... I'd be like... It's alrite... Janji kayuh 😂

Just turned 40 and kicking myself for not investing/saving sooner, (financial education in mainstream UK schools non-existent 😑) but like you said, better late than never!
@@melvintanchannel age should not be a barrier la.. but do get a health check yearly if possible. i think ppl at a more advanced age (especially guys) tend to over extend them self and push too hard ....
Can I ask you something? As an experienced cyclist, Have you experienced when you're about to exit the roundabout, hand signaled, vehicles from the left, exiting the junction into the roundabout, although they see you, but they still dash into the roundabout causing either: 1. near crash, 2. cyclist to slam the brake and fall due to the clipless shoes 3. brake and stop in the middle of the roundabout to allow the vehicle to pass 4. Just crash onto the car and fist fight till last man standing? There are civic minded drivers who would allow the cyclist to pass and exit the roundabout (since the cyclist is already in the middle of the roundabout) sadly, there are many who don't give a sh*t. If I was driving a 10 tonne lorry, I doubt the vehicles would dare to dash into my path.
8 years of cycling... So far near crash cuz by reckless driver... 2 times... So far it's rare but will happen since it's open road... Just have to be careful... But I wud say overall Malaysian drivers are wonderful people.... Rarely wud have this incident... But as cyclist we have to be respectful too...
