Amazing how he isnt better known.Little Willie John is one of those singers who just like James Brown and Sam Cooke helped to shape the music we heard in the 60s and beyond.A true musical legend....

I first heard of Willie, believe it or not, was through Robbie Robertson's song "Crazy River". About how he grew up listening to Little Willie John. Thanks for that Robbie.. What a talent he was and it still stands up today.

The quality of the music that comes from Detroit has always been awesome. Despite all the dissing, Detroit is one of the most vibrant and interesting cities in the U.S..

Thank you very much, Laura for your kind words! It's really touching to hear people say these things about my father today, in 2020. Especially since, it's been almost sixty (60) years for the songs that you mentioned. In fact, it's been more that 60 years since Fever was originally released!
Younger music enthusiast are learning that, it was not Beyoncé, Madonna, Elvis or even Peggy Lee who first recorded FEVER ... It was Little Willie John. (The Beatles later recorded: "Leave My Kitten Alone")
      Thank you! :)

Thank you, barrylee55 for your nice comments about my father! I am the oldest son of LWJ, we (our family) are working hard to keep the musical legacy of LWJ alive. To this end we have written a book: "FEVER" Little Willie John..." Published by Titan Books (Random House USA). It is available at amazon.com. Please check out the reviews at the Amazon web site. THANKS, AGAIN for your comments!

Kajun John That voice, man. Discovered your father quite by accident here on TH-cam, but, boy, am I glad I did! "Fever" is astounding, the equal of Elvis, but with his own distinctive flavour. Great talent! Best wishes!

I've been a fan of soul music for so long (relatively speaking, since I'm only 27 years old) and I only discovered Little Willie John thanks to the spotify algorithm like a year ago, when it suggested me to listen to "I Need Your Love So Bad". Since then, I'm in love with LWJ and I can't stop. It really makes me kinda angry that he is not more world famous for being the legend that he is. No one I know ever heard of him either... Especially here in Germany. But I'm over here fangirling over him and singing my favourite songs of his every day, pining over his voice and his beautiful smile on the photographs... wanting to know everything there is to know about this special artist. Thank you for uploading this! I have ordered the book too and can't wait for it to arrive! What I wouldnt give to have been alive in a time and place where I could have been more in touch with the soul music community, to go to an event where LWJ might have performed.. It would make my life complete

@@feverwilliejohn2453 So nice of you to reply to my comment! Thank you! Wow you are Little Willie Johns son, which one are you? Amazing!!
I love that you're (still) actively strengthening his legacy.
When I read on his life on wikipedia, I was shocked by how suddenly his life took such a tragic turn and I also felt sick in my stomach sensing the injustice, I thought to myself that Little Willie John couldnt have been guilty. And I dont like how the media makes it look like he is.
I feel like through his music one can tell that he was a good soul, I mean he clearly put his heart into his singing, enabling us to feel his heart through listening to his voice.
I'm glad that there is a book where I can read all about him. I'll definitely let you know what I think and I would be delighted to have a chat about him and his music with someone who appreciates. I already can't stop talking about him but no one really understands.
Where can I sign up for a fanclub? I feel pretty alone here with my love for LWJ.
How can we make him more well known? I can't even pick a song of his at the Karaoke Bar!! :( :(
Why is there no movie, no documentary, no TV stuff about him... It's just not right

I just finished reading "Fever" by Susan Whithall and I came to You Tube to see if I could find this clip. I am so glad that a book was finally written about the life of Little Willie John. He was a monumental talent and I still listen to his music every day. I have also been hoping that he would be featured on Unsung. I sent a suggestion to them last year. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

“From Detroit”? He grew up there, but LWJ was born near Camden, Ark.

    • @monilaninetynine3811
      @monilaninetynine3811 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

He might have been born in Arkansas, but he was a toddler when the family moved to Detroit. Detroit is the city that he spent the most time living in. It's the city that molded him. So I would say he is from Detroit.
