Hello, I'm Thai. Wanna shout out to u cuz u're a quality traveler. Not many tourists / vloggers pay attention to culture & language of their destination countries. U're smart. Spending little time researching about culture, language, history will potentially enhance your travel experience. I've watch lots of Thailand trip vlogs. Only few Channels do this. Beside u, there's another channel called "DeathByVlog
". They came to Thailand couple of times. Latest was 5 months ago. They did pretty good job researching the history & background of the places they were gonna visit and add that into their videos. Even a Thai person like myself learn new knowledge about Thai history through their videos.... I, myself may not be a vlogger, but I did lots of homework prior to travel to UK. When I enter churches & castles in England & Scotland, I felt so excited cuz I know their background, where other tourists were just look around but didn't seem to appreciate that much.... Please keep on with such a great job and come back to Thailand once u have a chance.

Hello!! WOW... that means so very much to us, Ben! You have no idea, honestly. I spend hours and hours researching before we go, just to make sure we've got enough information and background on the local culture, history etc. It's so good to know that it all comes across in a good way and it's appreciated. Thank you so much for watching 😍🙌🏻 hope you have a great day! Phoebe x

The word KOH (Island in Thai) is actually pronounced with a soft O as in GOLF. It's the most mispronounced word by tourists but the Thais are way too polite to correct you. KOH = KAWH . No hate just an FYI. Thai is my second language next to English.

I heard a lot about phase don't ride elephant but I have to say that riding and tormenting is not the same.
Of course there are a lot of "pang" (elephant stable) that torment elephant to be ride but not all. Many place take care elephant with love and allow to ride them with no problem just like westerner ride a horse.
And some of not allow to ride pang is not good as you think. There are some place that does not feed them when there is no tourist or does not take care them properly when they are in musth status which is very dangerous.
So what I try to say is do not assume that no riding or unchained = good, allow to ride or chained = bad that is not alway true.

I enjoyed this video of yours. I am an Aussie from Perth. Thailand has been very close to my heart. This will be my 13th trip to Thailand. I have been to Phuket 10 times, and next year will be my 3rd trip to Koh Samui. There is an American lady that owns a restaurant. So I will be having my dinner at her restaurant. Of course I like my fishing too. Where I give my catch to the locals. Yes it is the Thai smile that takes me back to Thailand. I will be very honest those words Ka and Karp, really confused me. Till a Thai girl said to me Ka is for a female, and Karp is for a male. It was very embarrassing for me. I guess you learn through your mistakes.

Great to see some sensible Aussies making good vlogs. With you hundred per cent regarding the Elephants and other animal events. Many vloggers dont even mention this when they can see the cruelty for themselves. They just want to be followed. Calling out cruelty or slavery is what we as privileged humans must do. The same goes for those visiting Tiger temples. The temples have been found to illtreat the animals and they are drugged. Dont imagine that their wild animals are tame kitties because the monks have tamed them - what utter rot. Good too that you mentioned about the Buddah statues. It is the same for any religion and I see know reason to have someone else's God or religious symbol as an ornament. Well done.
We have been to Thai many times, but it has changed so much that we must go back again.

In Thai (Theravada) Buddhism, the Buddha is not a god. He is revered as the Great Teacher because he discovered and revealed the way out of suffering for the benefit of all living beings. So while the Buddha is deeply revered, he isn't a god. Just FYI.

Thanks again for this informative video! Can you tell a little more about the nighttrains from Bangkok? Also I liked your description of "Non-binary friends" 😂. Finally found someone who has a sensible stomach as well! I thought I was the only one. How do you survive that while travelling? Because my stomach tends to have a rough time during holidays, especially on the day of departure! Have a great weekend and I'm curious where you'll be next week 😎

Hey Felix! Sorry I missed the CC's again this week too - we've been slammed! It was a few years ago I did it and it was organised through a Topdeck tour I was on for work. There were lots of other travellers though so it must not be too hard to figure out - we caught an overnight sleeper train from Bangkok up to Chiang Mai, it was awesome! I've no doubt someone will have a more detailed vlog or blog post about where to buy tickets etc (Sorry I don't have that info!) Yes! We are huge supporters of the LGBTQIA+ community and small acts, like sharing how non-binary people can communicate comfortably in other countries makes a big difference! Mmmm I really do have a sensitive tummy - that's how I ended up going vegetarian... I've actually cut out even more food recently and my tummy has been feeling even better! I've not been eating dairy, eggs or anything like that and it has made a huge difference. Usually when I travel I stick to fruit and veggies, don't eat any meat or anything risky... I always carry ginger tablets too to help me with nausea... but really, the big thing I do is just to eat mostly fruit and veggies... Hope this helps ... P xx (P.S we are off to SAN DIEGO next week! We're doing some work there and then will be going to JOSHUA TREE!! OMGGG!!)

Hello Karim! Matt and I visited in August last year and we still had an amazing time but, I do have to say, it did rain most days (not all day) and while I love tropical rainstorms and it was really fun at times, there were some days I was longing for lots of sun so I could swim and spend more time at the beach... It's not impossible but it's also not the full Thailand experience. That said, if you have to visit at that time... I mean, the food and drinks and locals and all around vibe are just awesome regardless. Phoebe x

I am Thai. I like your video.
    Good information.
I agree with you for animal tourism and I respect your opinion.
    But please believe me.
    Elephants are like horses.
We rode them in the past, more than 400+ yrs, until now.
We rode in the past for traveling and in war, as I said like horses.
Some people in north or northeast pet them in their family long long time, which different from wild elephants.
Ofcourse Thais like elephants and want to protect them too.
Nowadays we don't using them anymore, so they are jobless.
Elephant's tourism is for preventing the owners bring them wandering around city for money.
RIding elephants is not a crime, it likes we ride horses.

Hi Arpa Kai. I want to hear your thoughts on all this after watching "Elephant Crushing" video that is linked in Phoebe's comment box above. After watching that video, I don't think anybody would want to ride an elephant. I surely don't.

    • @arpakai9243
      @arpakai9243 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@ordinaryguy1025 Do you know why we have to tame them?
Because they can kill people, destroy houses and destroy crops, and people will not let them do that. They will kill them for sure if the elephants uncontrolled.
Elephants are one of dangerous animals. They are not always friendly like you think.
I can't explain everything. Elephant crushing is a process for Thais to use them for our benefits since the past. It is just a process and it is in our culture. After the process, the bound between the owner and elephant born. They would love each other.
In the past, we caught wild elephants and tamed them. But nowadays, we pet them and they give birth. We have to control their behavior. Like I already said if they uncontrolled they would be killed to save human lifes. And I think no one want to pet them anymore nowadays because they have to spend lots of money for their foods and have enough spaces for them. It's quite difficult to return them to the jungles. No enough jungles for them, and even the wild elephants, they walk to human's villages to steal foods. We just wants to help them survive when Thais don't want them anymore.

Arpa Kai thanks for your views. Yes I know riding elephants is not a crime, that's why many tourists do it and there are many service providers that advertise it, but it's what goes on behind the scenes that is so morally questionable. If we ride those elephants we are supporting and encouraging the practice of elephant crushing. I just think elephants and all other animals for that matter should be left alone in the wild unless absolutely necessary. Just my thought.

Let me add a few tips. Motorcycle taxis, hugely popular and convenient. Best avoided if you value your life. Safety is not a priority for most motorcycle taxi drivers. Reckless driving, bald tyres, broken tail lights are common. Accidents are common. And if you don't have a proper helmet, forget about it. You would not ride a motorbike at home without a helmet, you surely should not in Thailand.
Street food- use your common sense. Freshly grilled things, food in cardboard or banana leaf containers are mostly pretty safe, but bowls of noodles at stalls where there is no running water source to be seen, and all the bowls and implements are "washed" in one bucket of water, you had better avoid. Nothing is worth coming down with a bad dose of gastroenteritis.
Dual pricing or discriminatory pricing, where tourists are charged more for attractions than locals, it's common, it's unfair, it's annoying, but don't get too worked up about it. Thailand is not an expensive destination. Entry fees for the Grand Palace is but a fraction of what you would pay to get in to the Louvre, or Windsor castle, or the Doge's Palace.
