Thanks to Kelsey for bringing Ashley onto a video! Now I'm addicted to space lift, I'm not even one freaking video in. I've always loved house make over videos, but this is overall the best I've ever seen! Not only are they good at it, but it's so entertaining!
I cringed all throughout this video. So many things wrong! And to think of all the unsuspecting people who saw this and liked it. 1. The ground was not properly prepared for sod. Then it was the first thing they laid down and then proceeded to walk all over it which you should avoid at first. It's probably going to die because there was still grass underneath that they just raked off instead of properly killing it off. 2. They didn't even use a pressure washer but called it power washing....?? 3. Those plants weren't planted deep enough and they don't know what they were actually planting. 4. Those light posts are going to fall over. They should have been planted and then the sod placed after. 4. The plants in the terrarium are going to die. They don't like moisture and they have no way of draining in there. Look up how to plant them. But anyhow....
A few of these point crossed my mind too.. 😬 love this channel, but maybe more research next time or just stick to inside homes and apartments from now on
I was thinking the same... those light posts were supported by boulders.... i think it was decorated for that moment only...not fir the future use... but anywas it was lookong good and owners were happy☺
All these bothered me so much!! Thank you! This yard is gonna look like garbage again in a few months. One more thing you can plant kale/cabbages in the fall but you should do so a few weeks before a hard freeze lest you kill your plant. Also that projector screen was dreadful. I love my movies to be slightly bright and wrinkly.
I say keep going with the outdoor makeovers. I'm a landscaper and this was an excellent foray for you! As to the above points: re 1. The ground was adequately prepared for sod. The soil was loosened then fortified with compost. As the lawn overwinters, any remaining subsurface weeds will die out. After I lay sod, I rent a sod roller, fill it up with water so that it is super-heavy, then roll it all over the newly laid lawn. In this way, the various soil levels are sufficiently connected for capillary action to draw up soil moisture to the root level. re 2. Semantics. re 3. While planting at exactly soil level is preferred, it is also true that planting too deeply is going to suffocate the roots, causing a long slow death. These plantings will be just fine as long as they receive deep soakings between periods of letting the root balls approach dryness. Test the original root ball by hand. If it is wet, wait before watering. re 4. It's not too late to retrofit those posts into the ground as suggested above. Excellent idea. RE 4. Yes, the terrarium is going to be a mushy smelly mess before the end of winter due to lack of drainage and to climate considerations. Drill holes, add a layer of screen to retain the soil and plant some shade lovers.
Uh you didn't plant that tree (arborvitae) deep enough- its prob gonna die. Also you zoomed in on what looks like a mum, sedum is the larger plant in the back with the pink flowers.
This was total bullshit, all for Instagram rather than reality. Sod BEFORE pressure washer? Plants that will croak at first frost like mums, succulents and poorly planted arborvitae? White furniture against a patio you've just removed the most from and therefore guaranteed future mud and weeds galore?! Those cheesy light poles that would have been 10 times more secure in terracotta pots that you could also have put a creeping thyme or sedum in a few inches of soil instead of that fireplace bowl that will drown anything planted in it?!?!? This was a waste of time and effort. And my watching time.
That was my thought, too. That's definitely a mum. The sedum is futher back. If the mum is hardy, it'll survive the winter, but this one just looks like a grocery store find. The sedums should, if planted well, do just fine, though you do have to cut them back at the end of the season (i.e. when they planted this "garden"). Not sure if the cabbage will make it. I thought ornamental cabbages were annuals.
YAY! this was so much fun! thank you SO MUCH for watching!! 💖🙏🏻 also- HOW CUTE IS MARVIN?! 😍🐶 this is my first outdoor makeover and i want to do lots more! what other outdoor spaces do you think would be great for a makeover? front porch?! balconies?! LMK!🌱💕
Shamaila Noor all these shows use white furniture. Doesn't matter if the owners have three small children and dogs (plural). That way new ones are needed every two years or less.
You don't walk on the sod right after you install it. Water it, yes, but not walk on it. And all that moss on the patio is there because it's apparently damp all the time. Prepare to power wash a lot. And since when did power washing require scrubbing and a detergent?
Ok good question!!! here's why we did that- We power washed on the first day and then came back on day 2 to the patio being basically 100% dirty again since it rained so hard 😑⛈ 😭. We would have power washed again, BUT it would have flooded the grass and Claire & Chris (& Marvin!) were coming home in a few hours so we didn't want soggy grass. So the scrubbing let us be a *little* more precise with where the water was going and how much of it we were using! Thank you for watching! Hope you come back and watch the new episodes coming out over the next few weeks! 😄✨

Good job! I love the garden area. Beautiful plant looks like a rose shaped-cabbage. I like the potted garden too with the candles inside the pot among the greenery. Nice!
What do you mean "the power washing is all gone"? Power washing should last for months. Rain shouldn't affect it. I guess if as you say you've never designed a yard before, you're going to end up with problems as many of the comments indicate. Well, on to other videos.

The light poles and furniture can be covered up when not in use. The gras will have to be watered each day when it is does not rain. Most likely that deck area needs to be able to drain off - the pitch is not done correctly. These guys did a great job.
Looks cozy. Thanks for all the ideas. Love the projector idea and the green and white pillow! Do you ever list your product sources? To all the criticism....I live in the Northwest and we live with rain. You can just simply store things away that aren't waterproof when it gets wet out.
There are actually quite a few apartments with yard here. We were really really lucky and found an affordable one ONLY because it was under construction when we moved in and looked like a complete, unusable heap for our first six months. Complete with scaffolding and random construction. Maybe half the size of theirs though if that.
They ran out of $steam after installing the new fence. However, I am happy her coworker(s) pitched in to help. Like the terrarium. Another choice could be flameless candles with rocks.
The succulents in the fire pit are 100% gonna die. They need really good drainage and old water is just gonna sit in the bottom of that container causing root rot. If you wanna plant succulents choose a container with holes in the bottom (or drill your own) lay down a layer of landscaping fabric or screen. Then fill with cactus soil (she used the wrong dirt) When set up properly succulents are hard to kill but these ones are unfortunately doomed.

If you ever have to do an outdoor project again you wanna pressure washer or not just the power mop. Also you can pick up concrete cleaner at Lowes or Home Depot and that will clean the stone and make it stay bright for a while.
It does look great, but in case of a downpour, so many things to take inside the house. First of all the wooden chairs cannot survive if you just leave them out. They'll peel and rot. Same goes for the table. Horizontal, so it will hold water for more. Yes, there is yacht paint which is resistant to water, but even then, it needs painting every year. Who has the time to do that? The sofa has cushions which, again, have to be taken in otherwise the fabric will get burned by the sun in the summer and soaked in the winter. The canvas and the projector are easy, let's say you can only put them out in the summer, when they are needed. The lights too. You'll have to keep them inside and just put them out when you are entertaining. All in all, you have to keep bringing things in and out. Lots of work, and you have to plan for space inside the house to store all this when it is not in season. Do they really have that space? Plastic-coated metal chairs and armchairs is the only kind that can manage the weather, and of course stone tables (we have marble in my country but I suppose any stone or even ceramic tiles will do).
I’ve collecting things for my yard for about 10 years. I have limestone, bricks, gazebo, barn beams, two antique barn gates, galvanized barn roofing, galvanized trough...and a budget of zero... Do you wanna put it together? 😁
