  • A primetime ESPN2 audience watched Penn State play a near-perfect first-half of football - taking a 56-3 halftime lead en route to a dominant 63-10 victory over Illinois on homecoming night in Champaign.
Quarterback Michael Robinson tied a school record accouting for 6 touchdowns (4 passing, 2 rushing) as the Nittany Lions scored touchdowns on 7 of their first 8 possessions.
Robinson hit receiver Ethan Kilmer for a 35-yard TD (0:58-mark) on Penn State's first possession, and followed that up with touchdown passes of 31 yards (2:03-mark) and 19 yards (2:54-mark) to freshman wideout Deon Butler. He closed out the 1st-qtr with a 3-yard TD pass to reserve tight end Patrick Hall (3:47-mark).
The Penn State defense (which at one point forced seven consecutive 3&outs) got into the scoring-act in the 2nd-qtr when Tim Shaw forced a fumble that Dan Connor returned 18-yards for another touchdown (4:23-mark). The Penn State offense continued to sizzle, as Robinson scored from 4 yards out on an option (5:43-mark) and then ended his night with a 31-yard scramble down the sideline for his 6th touchdown of the evening (7:17-mark). Just before the half, the Lion offense mounted a final drive behind by their backups, and third-string tailback Rodney Kinlaw scored from 1-yard out (10:02-mark).
In the 3rd-quarter, Joe Paterno completely called off the dogs with the lone Penn State touchdown coming from a 76-yard interception return from reserve defensive back Nolan McCready (11:33-mark).
Illinois finally reached the end zone in the 4th-quarter on a 2-yard TD pass to running back Rashard Mendenhall (12:39-mark).
Penn State improved to 7-1 on the season.
The victory was head coach Joe Paterno's 350th in his legendary career.
