    I played the PSP version and the PS3 versions. I definitely preferred the better graphics but I always wondered what the Wii was able to add to the experience. I’m glad to see the HD upscale and yeah it’s no where near the standard of nowadays, we also need to remember this is a VERY old game. 2008 was a long time ago. The gameplay still looks fun, and it seems like you can finish it in just a week. Great callback to a simpler era where levels were linear and the game didn’t make you feel like it was a chore to finish the campaign.

    • @bigcheffi
      @bigcheffi 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      games from that generation had no problem aging properly. Games from the PS2 and Wii still hold up and some of those are older than this game. Graphics may have been primative but games like Jak, Super Mario Galaxy, Ratchet and Clank 3, metal gear solid 3, and the gran turismo games are just a couple examples of games that easily stood the test of time.

      2008 was a long time ago. :D No it wasn't. It's not like 1960 or so. That was a long time ago. I think some games from the 2008-2013 era aged really good. The force unleashed ps3/xbox 360 version looks to this day incredible good. Considering that it was released in 2008. The character model of Starkiller looks so good. You need to play it on PC with a reshade graphic mode, enabling ray tracing and HDR! It will transform the game!

    You’re judging and old game by new modern standards and that just isnt fair. For its time the game was revolutionary and full of epic battles and scenes. Especially this version the combat and force power combinations were well done. I do think they should have just remastered the game and combined the editions, but they didnt and we cant judge it by that. The wii/ps2 versions are almost impossible to get now and in my opinion they were the best version of the game. Thank you for doing a review as it was very informative and im glad to know what version it is, i just do think its harsher than deserved.

      I dunno, I think it has to be judged by modern standards as this is a *new* release; there is very little new development here compared to the Wii version so I think Alex's judgement is fair. There could have been so much more done. People will still fangirl over it, however, as its a Star Wars property lol

      @@luisfelipegonzalez4423 the Switch is capable for it, but they ported the much better version of the game, the version that was much better received, due to it being the more complete and better playing game, the HD version had good graphics and ragdoll physics, and that's about it.
      the HD version of the game was a rush job, with a problematic development cycle, hence why the game is so clunky and unfinished.
      also it just makes sense that they'll port the Nintendo version to a modern Nintendo console, with the features and content that made this version unique and different.

    • @dawoodwilliams3652
      @dawoodwilliams3652 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      this is a simple upscaled port like Aspyre did with the other old Star Wars games, not a remake nor remaster.
      it would be impossible for them to have combined editions, because the HD version and this one ran on two very different game engines.
      don't be surprised if we see a Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 port soon, maybe even Star Wars Bounty Hunter.

    • @dawoodwilliams3652
      @dawoodwilliams3652 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@blackadder1996 it's a straight port, with minor upscaling and fps boost, like most people knew and expected, it was never promised to be anything else other than what was delivered, hence the price and why most people aren't crying about it, it's because we knew what was coming, it's not a remaster or remake, thus it can't be held up to modern standards, saying "New release" implies it's a new game, it's simple an upscaled release of game that's more than a decade old, thus reflecting gameplay that was an industry standard at the time.

    The wii version was great back in the day but if not even the bare minimum of changes were made for a modern audience, this may be a hard game to sell to a demographic that has never played it before. I'm usually the person that picks up games that most people consider bad and actually love playing them myself. I remember many people praising this game back in the day, would keep talking about how brutal Starkiller can be and how much of a powerhouse it feels to play the game, but I never was able to play it myself at the time.
    Recently played the Windows/360/PS3 version, and man... I hated the combat in this game. You'd think a game that offers different movesets and a combolist would at least have half that it offered be viable against any enemy, but due to the enemy responsiveness(more accurately, lack thereof) I found myself spamming force powers which really brought down the experience. Force powers are cool and all, but what's the point of giving a lightsaber to the player if it isn't even effective against most enemies.
    I think it would definitely be fun as a person who played it back then and is willing to just give in to nostalgia to enjoy the game. But as someone who isn't that, I think I'll go back to enjoying DMC3 instead

      As someone who's never played the 360 version but had the Wii version and beat the campaign at least 5 times (3 good endings and 2 bad) the wii version is honestly really fun and I like it a LOT. Can get a bit buggy every now and then but I never encountered anything game-breaking, mostly some janky enemy visuals and stuff. But again, never played any other version so idk how it compares to the others. The Force Unleashed 2 on Wii was rather disappointing compared to the first game though, lacked nearly all the content the first game had, but again idk if that's just with the Wii version of 2 or with 2 in general.

    I have the Nintendo switch version of this and I have the original on Xbox 360. The first thing you’ll notice if you compare the two games is that the switch version opening takes place at night. Whereas the Xbox 360 version takes place in the day. And even the opening Darth Vader sequence is somewhat different between the two games. I’m sure I will come across a lot more differences as I play. But I do like the night time opening sequence the best so far. There’s a few issues with the light saber that is different from the 360 version. For example when you pull out your light saber as Vader it stays on on the 360. However on the switch you pulled out do your attack or whatever and it shut back off. I realize that might be a nitpick to some people. But I find it somewhat annoying actually. I want the saber to stay open and on and ready for action. Granted when you hit the button it automatically comes out and is ready for battle. However it’s just that microsecond that’s annoying. Still both games are quite fun. And yes as you say in this video they are showing some age. But if you look at how old they are it’s no wonder. It’s not like a Mario game that can be 500 years old and still look good lol I personally would recommend this game for the switch. I never played it on the wii. My soul experience with the game is on the Xbox 360. I did I never got to finish it on there but I still enjoyed what I was able to complete. So having this on the switch I’m hoping will be just as satisfying.
    I believe my biggest disagreement with your assessment is on the graphics. Granted they do look older. They have in Asia right now. But they’re not going to stand up to what we expect today. They’re just not. At the time they came out they looked awesome. I feel like you were too harsh on the game overall. I still think it was a fun game. Throwing Thai fighters around it’s pretty damn awesome. I’m just saying. I’m just saying that I would recommend this game if someone would like to go back and play an old-school Star Wars game. It’s not going to Hold up against something like Star Wars Jedi fallen order but it’s still worth apply through.

    I agree with some things said here
    I played 360 version first and both PS2 + 360 versions have benefits and cons
    I think the issue I have with this version (PS2) is the levels seem less engaging I loved the 360 version feeling like a galaxy wide adventure
    Now gameplay which is core PS2 version has way more abilities but I feel to many (why is there 4 upgrade paths for 2 abilities with the same thing but merely a extra press of Y.. they could of been combined )
    But the bossed feel more like fights over waiting for the force shields to go
    360 version Better overall force power feeling objects feel more accurate and reliable to use and less abilities = more use of your skills overall
    Also the fact force grip is it's own button is a huge plus
    I wish the switch bundled both versions together to offer a complete experience in one platform

    4:46 I don’t think many game reviewers today understand the point of QuickTime events. In this era of gaming, outside of like shadow of colossus (which is kinda in different boss rush genre) you couldn’t really make a playable character do a fancy move where he flip jumps on a bosses back and does all this fancy sword work without some sort of cinematic QuickTime event. Rather than have a character incessantly slash at boss they had to throw in these QuickTime event
    So there was a purpose back then

    what makes this game the best version for me (despite its potato graphics) is the motion controls... executing force powers and handling the light saver just feel awesome and was one of the best use of motion controls in the Wii... and not using them (againgz in my humble opinion), detracts from the game.
    I feel they could have just added some HD textures and reworked the lighting a bit and it'd be a bit more awesome... not that it isn't a great game as it is.

    Alright, so, I originally played the PS3 version of this game-I didn't get far into it, but I absolutely enjoyed it. So, when I found out the game was coming to the Switch, I legit squee'd. But, guess whose dumb ass didn't know there were multiple versions of The Force Unleashed, with varying qualities? Seriously, out of every version they could've gone with, they used the Wii version?! When I started the game, I seriously asked myself, "Did I get the wrong game???" The answer to that was "Yes and no." The graphics are awful, and I honestly don't remember the opening level with Darth Vader being so slow and stiff to play. However, when I started playing as Starkiller, things did pick up significantly and felt much better to play, even if it was a bit more slippery. I haven't gotten any further than I did when I was playing the PS3 version, but I guess the gameplay could keep me interested-I do love a good hack and slash. It's gonna be an uphill battle getting over the graphics, though. What demon made these?! The one from Tenacious D, methinks.
