    My three year old loves looking up mushrooms in the book when we get home ! Our friend was round telling him the names of the knitted mushrooms we have, she said this is the Fly Agaric and he said "Its amanita muscaria" 😅

    Great job teaching your daughter about wild plants and food at a young age. I've done the same with my son, and he's 8 now and knows at least 30 edible plants and at least 25 edible mushrooms now. It's a skill that I wish was taken more seriously and taught to kids in school. So many reasons to know about edible and medicinal plants and mushrooms, and I can't think of any reasons why it shouldn't be taught.

      I totally agree. I grew up learning about medicinal plants in Eastern Europe, only to discover so many more as an adult in UK!

      Great jobs to you too! If you want any of the medicinal plants for teas and treatment, it costs AO MUCH to buy proper flower/ leaves from a shop!

    Isn't giant hogweed one off those plants you're supposed to report, considering it's danger level and an invasive species?

    It's lovely to see little Bonnie had grown up showing her interest with nature too. What a proud dad you might be, Marlon. Have another one or couple more Marlon to add with family business. 👪 ;--)

    Great stuff, as always,🙏🏽
    Very young Mahonia aquifolium leaves are a great forage, too.
    Worth mentioning that cotw needs cooking for a full ten minutes?
    (... giant hogweed, you mean toothed rather than spikey, or perhaps spikey shaped? Could be confusing for newbies.)

    Chicken of the woods needs cooking for far longer than that. It needs to be fried for 10 minutes before adding onions or anything else, then for another 10 or more minutes after that, even if they are thin slices. Chicken of the woods do not shrink or soften with longer cooking, they just get more tasty.
    Best = after 10 min of frying them on medium heat, add onions. Then fry for 10 more minutes on medium heat. Then add salt (or vegetable bouillon powder), pepper, a little bit of curry powder, finely chopped ginger, and fry gently for 2 minutes. Then add lots of cream, and gently fry for 1 minute. Fabulous. Tastes exactly like succulent roasted chicken thigh in a stir fry.

      Ps, if it gets too dry during cooking, just keep adding water.

    • @WildFoodUK1
      @WildFoodUK1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The video was sped up about 20 times and cut so you have no idea how long it was cooked for. The chicken of the woods was cooked for much longer than 10 mins. It did not need cooked longer than that, but thanks for the comment...
