    ABOUT VEDANTA
Vedanta is one of the world’s most ancient religious philosophies and one of its broadest. Based on the Vedas, the sacred scriptures of India, Vedanta affirms the oneness of existence, the divinity of the soul, and the harmony of religions.
    ABOUT US
Vedanta Society of New York is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India. In fact, this is the Order's first Center started by Swami Vivekananda, in 1894. It was a historic event, for the seed of the world-wide Ramakrishna Movement was sown here in New York over a century ago. Swami Sarvapriyananda is the present Resident Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Vedanta Society of New York.

We do have free will. But we are also bound by prarabtha (which pre-programs situations. circumstances, opportunities) and sanchitha karma (it pre-programs our guna based on vasanas but it can be re-programmed using free will which creates new karma or Agama karma and goes to our future lives). Only animals don't create new karma (so no reincarnation) and don't have free will as well. If there is no free will for humans, then we will be caught in the duality cycle of birth/death perpetually.

Dharmic action is nothing but action without creating karma. eg If you work hard all day/nigh and hardly sleep, it creates adharma of mind/body which manifests in the form of headache or high blood pressure. If you sleep well, then the balance or dharma is restored. Dharmic intention to provide food to poor people despite poor outcome does NOT create any karma. On the other hand, intention to have name and fame through feeding poor people (despite good outcome) can lead to karma. So, intention also matters. Eating just for hunger without getting caught in taste or tasteless does not lead to karma.

One way of looking at freewill is the choice we have to feel happy or otherwise in that circumstance. If you decide to remain happy then you develop a positive attitude and similarly we have people with negativity. This could determine the general state of one's life. So this could be another view of freewill that Prabhu has given us. The life takes it's turn and twists depending on nature. Depending on how freewill is exercised one remains happy or otherwise. All humans directly or indirectly strive to remain happy all the while. Om

Which clearly means that if i had freewill in past genma, then definitely i have freewill now also. But we cannot clearly draw the line where fate ends and freewill begins.
    Definitely both exists.

I don't think so brother. There can't be any free will. Law of karma is just an approximate theory to explain about life events. Swamiji himself had said that in another video that there are so many defects in the concept of karma. Our actions are triggered by combination of genetics and upbringing which we have zero control over. Your entire decision making model is based on those. So there is no other way to act than the way we are currently act.

Soccer field is pre determined, teams r predetermined, ball is predetermined, 90 mins of time of game is predetermined, goal post is predetermined.. Within all these, now there you are to play .. In these same limitations, one becomes Messi/Ronaldo, one becomes unknown completely.. So what you get is destiny.. How you get is Self effort.. If there was completely no self effort on your part at all, whole concepts of karmic bondage and suffering or benefitting from actions would be useless! So this can’t really be seen as free will but one can’t also negate that self effort is definitely there unless you have completely surrendered yourself to divine will and don’t perceive urself as an individual at all and are unaffected in all dualities.. This would actually be the real free will.. The freedom to turn inwards and realize the Self

However, due to my spiritual practice, when the situation arises I have a quiet mind, which holds in abeyance all my pre-conceived notions on what to do. There is both free will and pre-programmed karma. Free will cannot achieve anything beyond our pre-programmed prarabtha karma. But at the same time Sanchitha karma can be re-programmed by free will which creates new karma and goes to our future lives. Of course, causes for free will is usually based on what we experience in this life but it does not mean everyone desires for the same change. eg If 2 people suffer due to poor financial situation, one could desire for a rich life in the next life and another could desire for spiritual evolution. This is the difference free will can provide.

We can not not believe which is the way in which we are not free, we can choose what we believe, that is how we are free, we all have a master that we are free to choose. I've come to this idea over and over in my meditations. also belief is ego, and it is inescapable like gravity, I like to call it the gravity of belief or ego.

    Swami,
You are the Divine incarnation of Swami Narada in this Planet.
I'm feeling so happy to meet you again Swami.
Swami, I know that You see the Truth all the Time.
    Swami, Just liberate us.
    Just Show us the Truth.
    Humans are capable.
They are responsible towards Mother Earth and the creatures and the creation.
Every one of our species is bound unconditional towards the Source of creation.
Just show us the Truth Swami

I never seek a personal freedom.
I want the Truth for entire Humanity in this Planet.
Either I want liberation for all
Or I am completely willing to be bound to this planet for eons.

      Aum Arunachala Siva!
You have a dream, and you see thousands of people in the dream. When you wake up, where will those thousands of people, of the dream? everything vanishes, you alone remain....
saying that, 'I wan liberation for all' - when we ourselves remain in bondage, is like asking, 'will those thousands of people who were there in my dream, wake up when I wake up?
well, they are part of your dream....
      Aum Namo Bhgavathe Sri Ramanaaya!

As I understood is that, the God, the Supreme Consciousness, is only having the free will and if we agree with their decisions or if we totaly surrender to thy wish, we are free.

If the "who" you're hinting at is the who I think it is, absolute predestination could be true and it would not be unfair.

Id like to add my interpretation of quantum question. I think as we move further deeper and deeper into our existence i.e at quantum level.. determinism disappears into randomness finally ending in nothing.i.e freedom itself. As gross layers add up, randomness disappears into determinism

Now I get my long waiting reply.ask top most motivational speakers no one can reply why two son of same parents act very differently, and motivation is not everything. I think It's the results of cause and effect and free will is limited in nature but utilising fully may make one toper ..

  • @munjolepadmakar2897
    @munjolepadmakar2897 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Free will ,at any rate, being an ontological reality cannot escape the sphere of determinism . The only way out is to regard it as an artificial fact.

Every possible action we do in this very moment (now) from our free will (illusionary) is already determined. Certainty is illusion in the vast uncertainty.

When you search for the 'I', you come to know that I-' the witness' cant be the doer, nor can I -' the body mind intellect complex'. Its all a movie that I am forced to watch, or rather a dream which my mind forces me to see...which is actually the creation of my own free will yet creates a dilemma of doership / witness. :) And this is MAYA:)
