I've done this but the powerbank only charges the battery when the camera is off. When I turn on the camera and start recording, the regular battery drains (not the powerbank) so my recording time is not extended. Have tried multiple cables. Is this what happens with you? Thanks.

Hi TubeNoob, great video but the PU70 base plate screw does not fit the Smallrig 1797 cheese plate hole as the side holes are too small and the middle hole is too big. Do you know why this is? The PU70 now being sold on Amazon is different to the one you show in your video.
Hi! I use the PU70s. But the problem doesn*t seem to be the base plate, but the smallrig cheese plate wie rail mounts. I checked the links. There is an old an a new version of said smallrig plate. I guess the new version, which must have been released since sometime, has a 3/8 inch mount, not a quarter inch mount any more. The PU70, and most quick release plates have the 1/4 inch mount. Check the description of the smallrig plate and see whether that is a 3/8 inch mount in the middle. I am pretty sure that is what it is. In this case you just need these tiny adapters here: www.amazon.com/Foto-Tech-Convert-Adapter-Ballhead/dp/B00OKYWWMG/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1543871467&sr=8-8&keywords=quarter+inch+to+3%2F8+inch+adapter+camera+screw Let me know if that*s it....
Hi, love this idea. Once the setup is complete, what are the size dimensions? The reason I ask is I am wondering if this is possible with a gimbal? particularly the weebill lab which has a small clearance around the motor. Thanks again
Mh....I am with my parents right now and don*T have access to the parts, but from checkin out the weebil on pictures I highly doubt that the setup will clear the roll axis in flashlight mode.......if only there was a way to lace the powerbank below the qr plate of the gimbal....
I am so glad that that’s you’re doing stuff with Sony other than the a5100 because I got the a6300 and some of these tips and tricks could really help me as I am trying to get into filmmaking
It's been quite a while, nit I think the dummy battery need a special powercable that divides into two usb cables. SO you would need a poerbank with at least two usb connections. I think it's because it need more charge that way...
Hey man. Having trouble finding the 15mm rail baseplate. Any suggestions on where else I can get it? That link doesn't work for me as I'm from Australia
Followed your steps exactly with my A6300. However, I'm noticing that the battery is losing charge still while connected to the power bank. Should that be the case? Or would a dummy batter battery work better?
That seems like the reason for the slow discharge. Don'T know if there are powerbanks with a higher voltage that size....then again...is it loosing charge as fast as in regular use?
@@Mark10ProVideo Dummy battery solved the problem. Even though you can technically shoot and charge at the same time, it's not enough power. So my time was still longer than just with the battery but you'd still end up with an overheated issue eventually.
Hey tubenoob, i have a used canon eos m6 with ef-m 11-22mm lense and 3 batteries for it , i have a chance to trade all that to a new panasonic lumix g80 + 12-60mm kit lens, u think i should trade for that?
Hey, TeamRemet! Depends on what you want to use the camera for. Both comes to around a grand new, so the value is comparable. M6 plus 11 22 is an awesome vlogging setup with great autofocus. G80 plus 12 60, which is the best kit lens for videography you can get for a panasonic G series camera in my opinion, is an overall videography centric mirrorless camera. You will see that you have been pretty spoiled;) by the AF performance of the M6 when you switch to the G80, but on the other hand, if you also want to work from behind the camera, doing premeditated, designed shots, you will love how feature rich the G80 is and the 4k quality you will get from that camera. Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask...greetings!
I have a question, some of the items I need to build this kit tells me either not available or I’m in the wrong Amazon store. Could you please check if every item is available and where exactly I can order one, thanks

Hey Tubenoob, we've spoken a couple times and you have really helped me narrow down the list of which camera I would like to buy, so I would first like to thank you for that. My choice is now between 3 cameras, Which I will mainly be using for travel vlogs. I cannot decide between the a5100, a6300, and the new Canon EOS M100. I'm not sure if the a 6300 is worth sacrificing a flip up screen for 4K, but I can get it at a very competitive price. But between the a 5100 in the M100 it's like they're identical. Is there one you would lean towards at the end of the day? Thanks man!
You*re very welcome, David Donovan! Between the M100 and the A5100: M100. Mainly because the canon 11 22 stm m super wide angle zoom is a very good lens at approx. half the price of the sony sel 10 18. If you wanted to invest in a super wide angle zoom for vlogging. Also the Canon has the better screen AND a real touch screen for that matter, which makes a big difference in usability and touch AF for example. Micro wind muffs can be applied to both cameras due to the location of the internal mics on top of the cameras. With the M100 it will be a quick custom job to customise the pads, but nothing a scissor can't handle. Now if it was the A6500, which really improved in the overheating department, I would say it's a consideration to have 4k, external audio, but no selfie screen. But the A6300 stills deals with major overheating problems. If it was an A6500 I would go with that one and use my phone as a selfie screen when in need of one. For vlogging, out of these three, because of the reasons given, I would definitely go with the M100. Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Hey Tubenoob, After reading some of your recommendations I decided to go with the Canon M series. I looked through some more of your videos and found the Canon EOS M6 and loved it! I just bought it online last night! Nice review-straight and informative. I bought an anker power hub but it will not power the camera unless the Sony battery is in the camera. Is it correct in assuming that the hub works in conjunction with the Sony battery?

Quick question: I have an external battery and when I plug it the light comes on to charge, but I can't film or take video while it's connected. Do I have to take the battery out or change settings to use while connected to the external battery? Thanks!
The A5100 does not have that option. You cannot charge it and record with it. It is either or with this one. However using a powerbank you can bypass that problem with such a dummy battery to usb adapter: www.amazon.com/CCYC-AC-PW20-Decoded-Coupler-Replacement/dp/B075Z4GXKG/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1546533657&sr=8-2-spons&keywords=sony+dummy+battery+to+usb&psc=1 Hope that helps you out a little. A ronin s won't have a problem with that...really depends on the cradle size of the gimbal and its power. Should work fine with larger handheld gimbals.
The bottom if the rail mount has a regular quarter inch thread, so there should be no problem attaching a qr plate the has the fitting screw....or what do you mean exactly?
Hey, Pablo! I could, but it wouldn't look much different than the one built around the A6500. I would probably use the same power core hack as with the A6500. If the A6000 didn't feature usb charging and operating, I would use something like an ex pro powerbank with a dslr power out put and a dummy battery dc couple to run it off the powerbank. As a mic I would use the Sony ECM GZ1M, if I would plan on using a smartphone as a remote control. Because as soon as wifi is enabled, the camera probably messes up the audio coming from the 3.5mm input, like the A6500 does. Here's a video on that problem: th-cam.com/video/6K27ZScEQZ4/w-d-xo.html If no smartphone is used I would probably go with a rode video mic pro as a mic. The best lens for vlogging in my experience is the 10 18 from Sony, expensive lens though. The 16 50 kit lens on the 16mm wide end is wide enough for vlogging as well. But narrower than that I think isn't suitable for vlogging. Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask. Greetings!
Hey, Bruce Long! Do you mean a selfie stick? I don't know what you mean by "grip"...you*re not talking about a battery grip or pistol grip, right? Depends on how much money you want to spend, what you want it to be able to do and how heavy the camera is you want to put on it.... Gorillapods are awesome, but expensive. Any mirrorless or dslr camera above 500 USD I would put on a gorillapod, just because they are rugged enough..... If it was just the camera, nothing else that makes it heavier there are good alternatives.. Like this flexible tripod: www.amazon.com/Lammcou-Durable-Flexible-Smartphone-Samsung/dp/B073N9687P/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1516645868&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=lammcou+flexible+tripod&psc=1 And this ballhead: www.amazon.com/koolehaoda-Tripod-Ballhead-Release-Maximum/dp/B071SFJXH9/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516645911&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=koolehoada+ballhead+e2 I am going to do a little video on these two soon....both of these products are worth the money and cheaper and better in my opinion than the joby alternative, which would be the gorillapod SLR in this case, mh....it is right in between the SLR and the FOCUS..... If you don't need a flexible tripod, the Manfrotto pixi evo 2 is a solid little tabletop tripod that can easily be used as a selfie stick.... www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-MTPIXIEVO-Section-Universal-Smartphone/dp/B0751FYJGL/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1516646157&sr=1-2&keywords=manfrotto%2Bpixi%2Bevo&th=1 Hope that helps you out a little. Do I have to take the battery out or change settings to use while connected to the external battery? Thanks!
The A5100 does not have that option. You cannot charge it and record with it. It is either or with this one. However using a powerbank you can bypass that problem with such a dummy battery to usb adapter:

Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Hey can I put this setup in gimbal
A ronin s won't have a problem with that...really depends on the cradle size of the gimbal and its power. Should work fine with larger handheld gimbals.
Thanks alot, just one more question does it effect our camera in long run, whats your point on this ?
Do you have advice for manfrotto qr plate users?
The bottom if the rail mount has a regular quarter inch thread, so there should be no problem attaching a qr plate the has the fitting screw....or what do you mean exactly?
Could you do a video on a vlog setup for the alpha a6000?
Here's a video on that problem: th-cam.com/video/6K27ZScEQZ4/w-d-xo.html
If no smartphone is used I would probably go with a rode video mic pro as a mic.
Just ask. Greetings!
great vid can this work for the a6400?
Great video.
Does this harm the battery?
whats the best grip to get for vloggong
Hey, Bruce Long! Do you mean a selfie stick? I don't know what you mean by "grip"...you*re not talking about a battery grip or pistol grip, right?
Depends on how much money you want to spend, what you want it to be able to do and how heavy the camera is you want to put on it....
Gorillapods are awesome, but expensive. Any mirrorless or dslr camera above 500 USD I would put on a gorillapod, just because they are rugged enough.....
If it was just the camera, nothing else that makes it heavier there are good alternatives..
Like this flexible tripod:
www.amazon.com/Lammcou-Durable-Flexible-Smartphone-Samsung/dp/B073N9687P/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1516645868&sr=1-1-spons&keywords=lammcou+flexible+tripod&psc=1
And this ballhead:
www.amazon.com/koolehaoda-Tripod-Ballhead-Release-Maximum/dp/B071SFJXH9/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1516645911&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=koolehoada+ballhead+e2
I am going to do a little video on these two soon....both of these products are worth the money and cheaper and better in my opinion than the joby alternative, which would be the gorillapod SLR in this case, mh....it is right in between the SLR and the FOCUS.....
If you don't need a flexible tripod, the Manfrotto pixi evo 2 is a solid little tabletop tripod that can easily be used as a selfie stick....
www.amazon.com/Manfrotto-MTPIXIEVO-Section-Universal-Smartphone/dp/B0751FYJGL/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1516646157&sr=1-2&keywords=manfrotto%2Bpixi%2Bevo&th=1
Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!
Such a great hack! I've been looking for a good battery solution for the a6500 for ages! Nice work
Glad I could help!
Hey, Was wondering if you have any experience with the Saramonic SR-XM1 3.5mm TRS Omnidirectional Microphone for DSLR Cameras. Looks like it could be an interesting solution for someone who wants to keep there camera setup small but still have improved audio. I haven't seen any reviews on it so it might be a good video to make. Let me know and thanks for all your tips and tricks they have been really helpful.
Hey, Joseph Gerardi! Funny enough....I have that laying around here somewhere....I will do a quick little review for you...wanted to do something with it for some time now...greetings!
Hi from New Zealand. Just discovered your Channel. A6500 - Zeiss 16-70mm. Wondering about Gimbals - What would you recommend ? Absolutely fabulous content, one of the best I've seen. Would love feedback on Gimbal - MUST be as small as possible. Thanks a lot. cheers
Would probably go with the Crane M2 or the crane plus.
Brilliant! And useful for so many other cameras and accessories.
Thanks, Charles Brooks! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
Are you able to charge and film at the same time?
Yes, the 6500 has that feature. Greetings!
Would this work with Webbill s gimbal?By the way love your channel..
Never used that gimbal, but weight-wise it shouldn't be a problem, maybe the height of the setup will make it difficult to balance the gimbal.
Thanks for this, exactly what I was looking for!
Cool! No problemo:)
awesome man i got the A6400 and battery life makes me feelbad lol going to try the cage setup with that power bank
Cool:) Glad the video helped you out!
Hi Mark, I would like to see how about using a gimbal (Zhiyun Weebill S) instead of a gorilla pod? can you do a video for Sony a6400? Would appreciate it! :) thanks! Keep creating this kind of videos :)
I currently own a ronin s, but I did do this video some time ago on gimbals: th-cam.com/video/1TBujG8yvN4/w-d-xo.html
And this would be a tutorial: th-cam.com/video/Pks_7UqtqjY/w-d-xo.html
Greetings!
Hey bro, can we power a6300 using this power bank ? How to avoid usb charging mode.
No, but if you want, I can do a quick video on how to build a solution with a dummy battery for you...
Is there no way without dummy battery? Can you explain a workaround with power bank and how can i make it work while keep shooting
Rizwan Ashraf There is none that I know of. Some cameras can either be charged or used....
Very slick solution! well done.
Much appreciated, Dana!:)
Will this work for Sony a7rii?
Yes, should work just fine....it also features charging over usb.....I never owned an a7rii but it should work from what I understand. Greetings!
Hi Tubenoob, is this hack work for a5100?
Or I must hack with dummy battery?
Thanks
Hey! With the A5100 you must use a dummy battery, because if you charge it via the usb port you cannot record with it.....greetings!
I still don't know why Canon don't but USB charging on the m6
The should have....
Wonderful review! You got a new sub!
Thanks, Carlos Rodriguez, for the nice comment and support!
thanks for this solution...this is what i have been looking for.
Cool:) Thanks for the nice comment!
Hi TubeNoob, Can you make a video or preview or how to on canon eos m10?
Thanks and i'm hoping.
-from PH😊
Hey, ConanIsMyDoggie TV! Do you mean the m100? A how to on what exactly? Like menu settings? Or timelapses?
TubeNoob not the m100.. the canon eos m10.. preview and video test..😊. Thanks for rply.
I can't afford one right now, but maybe in the future I will be able to get one and do some tests:)
TubeNoob ok no problem.. thanks for rplying.. nice videos and previews on how to
Gute Idee. Ich fand die GoPro Sache ziemlich erleuchtend :)
Danke:) Das Mark II Setup?
You're a mad genius my friend.
Thanks, man:) Much appreciated!
Can anyone help me out pls? Not sure why my a6500 doesn’t charge when I plug in a USB. It used to work now it doesn’t.
Faulty cable or grid adapter?
awesome! thanks so much for the vid!
Thanks so much for the nice comment, Elijah Tichborne!
Brilliant, thank you very much.
Awesome solution, thanks!
Thanks for the nice comment, Claudio Desideri! Much appreciated:)
Brilliant! Thank you.
You're very welcome, Jorge Lancaster! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
loved your solution! Im gonna try it. Whats the name of the L bracket and the plate? the links are not working for me.
Thank you! Mh....they should....from where are you? Are they sold out or doesn't anything show up?
The quick release plate is called PU70S. It's a generic part, so the brand name might differ.
It's the same with the L bracket. There are many out there for the A6500. As long as it allows for the connection of the usb cable it's fine.
Hope that helps you out a little. More questions? Just ask....
Greetings!
Great job!!!!
Thanks, Alfredo Hurtado! Much appreciate the nice comment:)
fantastic solution!
Thanks, happy to hear that, Melanie:)
Great video.
Thank you very much:) Appreciate the ncie comment!
Thanks man
No problemo:)
Creative solution!
Thanks a lot! Never get tired of hearing that:)
LG V20 Setup!!
We've been over this....haven't we....I already told you that I don*t own one and can*T afford one right now.....I also told you how I would build it a week ago:)
- - - - -
Sorry, currently don't own one and can't buy one as well. But I would use all the basics from my S7 Edge vlogging setup, except the lens cover of course, since the v20 has the wide angle built in. Also I would go for the ULANZI IRON MAN II grip.

Hope that helps you out a little. Greetings!

Sorry, man, can't do it right now.....

TubeNoob how about LG V30! 10 bit image sensor and excellent 4K video
I will check it out, but damn, it is expensive....looks pretty good though....
TubeNoob but it is worth it
Wow!! 75k on a video that was only uploaded a month ago. 👍🏻
I have no idea how that happened.....by a magnitude the fastest one of all my video.....:)
Bro do you work for 3M? Lol, jk, great videos!
No, but they sure make fine velcro:) Thanks for the nice comment, Mus.! Much appreciated!
Good
Thanks, YPY STUDIO!
Just job kid!

Will this work with the Sony a6400?
Will work just the same.
