Maaan, I finally realized this recently. Engaging my spine and core is crucial to executing pretty much anything. I’m learning that the absolute core of doing anything cool in bmx is keep good posture and lead with your head. Now it’s just down to doing those hundreds and thousands of times to turn it into habit.
@@billy_bikes I've been bunnyhopping and I took a video of myself that my posture is really different from yours above. I am having a hard time making my hops high. I'll try this posture tomorrow and see if my bunnyhop would improve. Thanks for this tips.
But you found it now and that is what counts my dude! Yeah I feel like once you figure that out, its off to the races with learning as much as you could
Damn, I’m just now getting into bmx and this is something that is so important it didn’t even cross my mind. These videos are super helpful plz do more
Great video, Thanks man. I haven’t heard many people talking about body positioning, geometry and bike fit when it comes to riding. It all makes a big difference.
Thanks. And right on, yeah my goal is to provide you guys the audience with as much information as possible so you can make those types of decisions like crank length and frame geo based on how oyu want to ride
Dude! Thank you! I just stumbled on your awesome Video that finally explains the physics of the perfect way to do a bunny hop. since watching it my hops and particularly the control over the hop has improved dramatically. Thanks again.
Thank you! 😄 lol somebody on the facebook was just telling me that I suck, I'm not pro and my bunnyhops suck hahhahaha. So I really appreciate you guys
hinge at the hips man a lot of people lean into the bike and arch their back so dont do that, hinge at the hips like a deadlift/squat and row the bike upward and push it back out
Hell yeah!! I love seeing people that are not in their teens anymore get into riding. I'm only 24 but I'm already self conscious whether I'm not already too old to start riding. But I mean I know it's a bullshit sentiment. You can always start and have a good time and get good. What matters is that it's one more person enjoying BMX! No matter how old they are!!
This us great! I needed something like this. I'm pretty tall so I was always unsure wether my bike was big enough for me and whether I had my posture on it correctly. I kept pausing video parts to see how the riders there were doing it :D so this is really useful! I think I've been doing okay so far since I've gotten quite the good muscle ache in my legs and lower back after riding. But it's reassuring to also hear that you actually HAVE to bend your legs. I'm not super flexible so I was worried that not having my legs straight was a bad thing. Thanks for this!! :)
Hey buddy, you should get into stretching! that will help you bend and all that, I'm glad this video helped you. Practice these methods and you'll get better. I like how you were watching other riders and trying to break it down yourself
As a 30+ y.o. who rode for 15 years and now has a laundry list of back injuries, wish someone made a video diving into this when I was young and I took it seriously specifically for injury prevention. Any younger dudes watching this, the health benefits from taking this seriously will far surpass the riding skill youll aquire from it. Riding in super deep flexion and rounded out shoulders for over a decade, took a massive toll on my body and live in pretty much a constant state of pain. Been trying to get back into bmx lately and trying to relearn how to ride with neutral posture and a proper hip hinge is quiteeeee difficult, though todays geo of tall bars and short rear ends certainly helps.
Well put I'm thirty two now and I've had my fair share of injuries. Lifting certainly helps with the falling aspect haha and having the relative strength to be able to do what you want to. Thanks for the comment bro!
Probably should have been one of if not THE only bunnyhop/BMX tutorial video(s) I should have been watching. Might have made my pop alot Better than it is now
Great video, bro. It's important to start with the fundamentals, such as good posture. Keep making these types of videos. Sending you props from El Salvador!
Coming! I keep saying that, as I been working on my site, check it out www.bmxgymrats.com it will be home for a lot of my videos and content. I've been turning these videos into blog posts, I should be done soon and its back to the videos full time. I appreciate you buddy
The nature of these how to videos is that they are for beginners, so breaking down beginner tricks into the finer details like this is very smart. I know there are tons of how tos for basic tricks, but you seem to be taking a unique approach with how to focus on the rest of your body while trying to make the bike do what you want. I’d like to see: Core exercises and pre-riding warmup and stretches. How to protect yourself in a fall. Your tips for manuals on instagram was extremely helpful, the strong lat/ keep shoulders back has helped me tons and should have been obvious to me 😅 but you helped make it click. I suggest you turn that into a longer form video along with other Little details like should my feet be parallel to the wheel line or the ground, how to low to sit in it.
@@lovin_lanaodi I love the detailed reply, that is the direction that I would like to go. I noticed watching the tutorials being produced today a lot of riders are really good at doing tricks but not so great at describing the effort to new people to the sport. That's why I took the exercise science approach, I wanted to test simple biomechanical theories to see how my audience reacted. I also started riding in 2003 and started lifting weights in the same year so I naturally relate riding to exercise and physical strength so much. I would like to incorporate things like that for you guys but like I said, I didn't know how it would be responded to. I'm glad there is a want for that. What I'd like to do is dive into each topic from instagram on video like this one, obviously since its winter right now everything will be street geared, how to hop or grind but we'll get into park/trails and bailing; even in each given discipline but it being winter is also a great chance to bust out the gym work in video content. I'd like to redo the bunnyhop video and then I have this riding in the winter video idea I want to do but would you like to see a stretch video up next?
You are welcome! And that is probably the bet way to go about it, that way you can refer to a video of someone riding and see what you are differently so you can implement what you notice
let me know of what u think of my audio on the uploads after this, I believe I fixed the issue but lmk if you come across more crap lol I think I've gotten better at it. My one mic is all pro with settings and what not I had it set real low on this edit
@@billy_bikes I watched your sitdown videos in front of the camera if that's what your talking about, they sound perfect. I'll look for another outdoor video if you have one
@@d_ruggs I appreciate your feedback bro! Yeah that is partially why I do them at the house a lot now, easier to control the audio lol but I also picked up a wireless mic setup for these types of videos
i noticed that you didn't tuck your knees a lot at your peak of the bunnyhop , is this better or it is just your way of doing the trick because my highest bunny hop is like 1.5 ft and i want more, good video btw
I prob ride a more neutral wrist position and I like to grip the bars with thumb around the bar like you would grab anything. its entirely up to you, do what feels right for you. Maybe we do a video on that
Thanks for the feedback! I'll probably redo this video soon, I'm not the best with audio and self filming. I had it set to pickup riding and I have a habit of speaking real low. In my newer videos the audio should be better, check them out and lmk what you think.

Very informative. I havent seen any bmx vid trying to teach posture.
Thanks man! this is the type of stuff I was having conversations about ten years ago trying to encourage ppl to learn bmx

Same man first for me and I’ve been the game for awhiiille. Good shit man
In the***
I moved to a slightly taller bar and it’s helping with posture. Thanks for the tips homie.
Happy to help!
I wish i found this video earlier, ive started changing my posture and engaging my core and its gotten so much easier to control and hop
But you found it now and that is what counts my dude! Yeah I feel like once you figure that out, its off to the races with learning as much as you could
This + Colin's how-to on pumping is so important at the beginning!
heck yeah man, I did see his video as well. Very good stuff for newcomers, something they may not necessarily think about in the beginning
Do more of this please!
I got you! just posted a new one yesterday, did you check it out yet?
Damn, I’m just now getting into bmx and this is something that is so important it didn’t even cross my mind. These videos are super helpful plz do more
More to come!! I was sick and I am working on the next upload
Came for the bmx but the bikes doing pulls in the background in the start was mint
heck yeah man

He's a no-nonsense, yet cool, smart to the point informative guy. I liked this. 👍🏾
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching my video my man
Omg! Eyeopener! And your bunnyhop looks so cool!
Thank you! 😄 lol somebody on the facebook was just telling me that I suck, I'm not pro and my bunnyhops suck hahhahaha. So I really appreciate you guys
Thank you for this. I got a bmx at 43 / 177cm for the heck of it. The riding position is really challening 😂

thats sick bro, I appreciate the inspiration it gives. I didn't think it would be that type of video for people
Wise good sound advise posture is key to opening up alot of balance and tricks .3decades IV rode for
Great tutorial!😎👍
Thanks! 👍
Thank you from the UK. This is the key point just about all other tutorials miss across every bike discipline. Instagram content it great also.

thanks ! that helps DEfinitly ;) keep on riding !

Thanks for the tip, can i use this posture on stiff leaf ramp?
Can you explain what a leaf ramp is? Regardless you should try to implement the posture I mention in this video when you ride always
This is why most ppl that ride are all cut up. Best natural workout you can get, using your whole body to control your ride.
hell yeah man

I prob ride a more neutral wrist position and I like to grip the bars with thumb around the bar like you would grab anything. its entirely up to you, do what feels right for you. Maybe we do a video on that
I don't know how we did anything on 40lb bikes with tall seats and 8" bars. New school stance is much more natural.
lol me either bro, I was a small fry on one back in the day learning trails
I think it's a good sign if your quads are burning.
yea buddy
