Decades ago, I was in an IBM training program for 3 months to cross-train people into the new technologies. Because I was a woman, they wanted to assign me to the Data Entry program, 30 students which was all women, basically fancy typists entering data details into the computer. I said thank you very much, but no, I wanted to be in the Computer Operations program of 16 students and all men except for one other lady. End of the class, I 'graduated' as the second in the class, got a job as a computer operator for 2yrs, while still taking classes at university and eventually moved into programming which was majority of my career. Watching this film, I was tickled to see the the 'computer' lady working on the IBM machine of which they were all more than capable to be able to operate.
I was in a very small computer class in a community college setting...late 60s. There were some other women. I was the only black one. I had no idea at the time that I was involved with a computer evolution of hardware. Yes, as fate would have it, I worked on an IBM 360. 🎉 Unlike the other women I stayed with it... for 40 years. I retired as an Oracle DBA. I saw it all. It was my life.
I LOVED this movie. First, because I grew up in central Florida and watched the rockets take off from Cape Canaveral. Second, and most importantly, because it showed that people can overcome racism, bigotry, and economic classism. I’m white, but came from a lower-class family and overcame that to succeed well. These ladies are an inspiration to all of us.
I too grew up there, actually in Cocoa Beach, so from 1950, when we moved there, through going to the moon, that was an amazing time to be living there. My brother worked at the cape for over 40 years and met many of the people very involved with the space program.

This was a great movie. Honestly, this is usually how offices work.
