This is a really nice bite sized video! I'd have liked maybe some more examples for each of the points, because it feels like many of the points ultimately were just "This is a thing that is important, keep it in mind!" without giving any concrete concepts to actually act upon. I remember when I started out as a DM I was looking for explicit builds and numbers to start at before adjusting up or down based on how I felt the party might handle the encounter, such as "for a balanced party of X at Y level, you could use *this* encounter". Idk, now that I write that out I think it might've been outside the scope of this video. Maybe there could be a future video that goes more indepth on the individual points at the cost of having a longer video? Either way, this is a great primer so I'm still sending this to my friends that are just getting into DMing so I can stop being a forever DM lol. Thanks! Now Subbed!
Thanks for the comment. We actually started creating these bite-sized videos from older content (that might not have as great of video quality) from a few years ago. This is the full length combat video we made. Not sure if that is what you are looking for. th-cam.com/video/ipezgGjRUCY/w-d-xo.html
If you are having trouble with players getting into the fray, having some enemies pop up behind them can light a fire, forcing them to change tactics. Alternatively, allow for the enemies to use more powerful ranged attacks, so that if the party does not close the distance, they will be at a disadvantage. If all else fails, conversations work pretty well, too!
Thank you, this would have really helped me when I started dming. I know the only way to learn is to play but this is great advice.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! We'll also be doing a video on Exploration and Social aspects as well :)

@@Dungeon_Brew thats exactly what I was looking for! Thanks :)
What strategics advantage exist in a game where everyone is too afraid to move during combat and casters will just hide in the back?
