Consumers of therapeutic services, please be aware that facilitated communication is NOT evidence based. Meaning there's no scientific proof showing this method does what it says the intention is for. There are so many studies showing facilitated communication are the thoughts of the prompter, not the individual. Not only is FC ineffective, but harmful to those around them. Please do some research of scientific, peer reviewed articles and not biased, word of mouth reports.
I'd sooner trust the testimony of one single non-speaker who says S2C transformed their lives, giving them a voice they would not have otherwise, than trust legions of scientists who have who knows what secret conflicts of interest.
Your statement is actually incorrect, in S2C there is no physical contact between the facilitator and the speller. Also, many advanced spellers are using a keyboard in a cradle, it just takes a lot of motor control to get to that point. There are dozens of spellers attending top universities all around the country who use letterboards and keyboards as their mode of communication. There are also studies showing that when spelling, the speller's eyes track to the next letter faster than anyone would be able to prompt them. See "Eye-tracking reveals agency in assisted autistic communication" Scientific Reports (2020). Jordyn Zimmerman is an example of a successful graduate.
How can I find a practitioner in the Tampa Bay Area, preferably close to Wesley chapter or dade city area?
